  1. Based on my recent testing (non-modded deadfire), it seems that the Imbue Missiles ability, when empowered, can potentially grant many inspirations. That being said, I was using the Kitchen Stove with Wild Barrage on the opening boat scene, but I don't seem to be getting the same level of success with other imbues or other abilities in general of the ranger. Just thought this might be a good thing to add to the list of Least Unstable Coil spells/abilities to use with. EDIT: It may have something to do with the Powder Burns modal and multiple enemies being nearby, I think; the Blast modal for rods also got me 5 inspirations with an empowered Imbue Missiles.
  2. Steadfast (Druid) + lots of health and deflection + absurdly low reflex + tanglefoot on self = self-heals galore on a tanky character? Could this work? Maybe adding in ideas from the chillfog chanter build in terms of healing from survival and the health-giving talent? Thoughts?
  3. I'm looking into making a summon-centric build, and I am debating which class/multi-class to take. I want to use the Animancy Cat pet, but I've read that it doesn't work with the following summons: Ghost Heart pet Wizard Phantoms & Tekehu's Watery Double Wizard & Druid & Priest summons in general Is this information correct? Is Chanter really the only class (other than Monk, apparently) that has summons which benefit from Animancy Cat? I am playing on vanilla deadfire, so no mods at this time.
  4. Except that Stelgaer’s rage is a universal PEN bonus according to the thread mentioned above. Maybe that means the weapon doesn’t need to be equipped?
  5. On another note, I remember reading that the Judge effect doesn’t work if you don’t have the weapon equipped; is that the same for other weapon enchantments, generally? Like Unfaltering from Whispers of Yenwood or the Stelgaer enchantments from Slayer’s claw? EDIT: I am especially curious about Stelgaer’s Rage enchantment.
  6. So Judge is listed as a beneficial effect for the enemy... interesting. Does that mean that Wall of Draining would drain time from Judge and thus grant additional buff time to a wizard, even if the enemy has no other buffs? EDIT: If it is treated as a buff, maybe that's to make it so high resolve doesn't affect it?
  7. While this option would require getting into melee range, you may want to consider Magistrate's Cudgel (soulbound to cipher, if you want) for the universal +10 accuracy boost on top of Borrowed Instinct for +30 accuracy for your spells. You have to be wielding it to keep the bonus from its Judge enchantment, though. EDIT: See the following topic for more information: While Magistrate's Cudgel isn't in the first post, it is mentioned later on.
  8. Can you test Magistrate's Cudgel further? For instance, do any of the soulbound upgrades apply universally, as well? I imagine the recovery time of deliberations (fighter w/ cudgel) applies universally, but what about penetration from Deliberations, or interrupt chance from monk, or stun on crit from cipher? I suspect that the cipher upgrade does not apply universally, but if it did... XD EDIT: If the interrupt chance on hit from monk applies universally, that would make this weapon great for a Druid/Monk, especially with all their pulsing spells...
  9. Well, darn. I thought I read somewhere that the "judged" debuff was a universal accuracy bonus. Ah well. EDIT: Just checked that thread, and he says that Magistrate's Cudgel's Judged effect is universal later in the thread.
  10. On a related note, does the bonus penetration from Magistrate’s cudgel on a fighter only apply to the weapon, or does it also apply to spells?
  11. I have a question about the +10 accuracy from Judge as seen here: Magistrate's Cudgel - Official Pillars of Eternity Wiki (fandom.com) Does it stack with other sources of generic accuracy, such as Marked Prey, Devotions for the Faithful, Borrowed Instinct, Hunter's Claw/Fang, Scordeo's Edge? I've seen different responses to this question.
  12. Quick question: does Recall Agony benefit from Might in Deadfire? Trying to remember for a build. thanks! EDIT: also, does Power Level affect the damage, or just the duration? EDIT 2: Finally, does Recall Agony stack with Inspired Beacon from a Paladin?
  13. Chillfog chanter build; there’s the main build (a defensive tank) and the alternate build. You can find it in the builds list. The main idea behind the chillfog chanter build is having incredible passive healing.
  14. For One-Handed Style, I think this would be a great idea to build a Chanter around, especially given how One-Handed Style benefits chants. I tested this idea a bit, and Hearth Orlans actually benefit from Minor Threat for Chanter summons for some reason, even when soloing. EDIT: Maybe combining some concepts from the alternate Chillfog build with this build could produce interesting results?
  15. If Wahai Poraga is upgraded with Counterattack and the Chanter is buffed with Pain Link, that’s half the damage done in melee shared with the attacker; could be a cool combo! Unfortunately, I’ve read that Pain Link can’t be cast on self in Deadfire…
  16. What about Chanter/Druid with Taste of the Hunt? Maybe empower it with the least unstable coil and see what happens?
  17. I read somewhere that durganizing Spelltongue removes the action speed buff’s ability to work (and maybe the duration stealing, too); is this still the case? It was a bug as of 3.06.
  18. So, I've been thinking about doing an anti-hero Priest of Skaen who seeks to punish those they view as oppressors; a Punisher-esque character who isn't afraid to be cruel to those they deem worthy of retribution. Given this focus on retaliation, I've come up with the following build idea: Race: Fire Godlike (or maybe a non-godlike) Culture: NOT Aedyr or Ixamitl Plains (Resolve will be minimized) Background: Something that gives bonuses to Mechanics or Survival (if trying to solo, choose a Mechanics-boosting background) -- maybe a blacksmith (laborer) who was betrayed by a jealous master, a slave who conspired and killed their masters at sea, or even a colonist who fled persecution. Could even be a scientist who enjoyed taking down powerful criminals until they found out they were being used by someone they cared about. Attributes: MIG: 18 (or 19, if you go Living Lands and want to completely max Might) CON: 16 (enough to have a healthy amount of Endurance at half health, could be 14 maybe?) DEX: 15 (or maybe 14 or 13 if raising Might and/or Intellect) PER: 8 (with all the priest accuracy buffs, along with Song of the Heavens, this can be dropped a little) INT: 18 (want long buff durations; could be 20 for more Will and a bit longer durations if you go Old Vailia) RES: 3 (can buff concentration and we want to get hit, so can drop this) Skills: Mechanics: 9 if get gloves of manipulation and soloing; 11 otherwise. can be 0 if not soloing Survival: 2 or 6 + Sanguine Plate when resting to get accuracy bonus. Lore: 10 if you want Maelstrom scrolls; could be left at 2, I suppose. Athletics & Stealth: whatever's left over, with a preference for Athletics. Planned Talents (not necessarily in this order): Prey on the Weak Apprentice Sneak Attack Vulnerable Attack Scion of Flame Inspiring Radiance Aggrandizing Radiance Interdiction Painful Interdiction or Weapon & Shield Style Event Based: Flick of the Wrist Dozen's Luck Song of the Heavens Gift of the Machine if doing a truly evil playthrough, skip if doing an anti-hero Effigy's Resentment: Durance perhaps if not soloing, especially if playing as a Fire Godlike with Orlan parents Planned Mastered Spells: Blessing/Holy Meditation/Halt (for sneak attack bonus) Instill Doubt (for sneak attack)/Divine Mark (for damage and lowering deflection)/Repulsing Seal (for Sneak Attack) Dire Blessing / Pillar of Faith Devotions for the Faithful Planned End-Game Equipment: Head: Fire Godlike Armor: Vengiatta Rugia (for sneak attack bonus and retaliation) or Coat of Ill Payment (+RES, retaliation, more DR) -- PER+2 buff regardless Arms: Swift Action Gauntlets or Ryona's Vambraces Legs: Glanfathan Stalking Boots (for Sneak attack bonus if not using Vengiatta Rugia) or potentially Viettro's Formal Footwear (for more Lore and DEX) or perhaps Malina's Boots for Preservation enchantment and move speed? Neck: Maybe Lost Periapt of the Winding Path for Resolve and concentration or Shroud of Mourning for Resolve Waist: Belt of the Royal Deadfire Cannoneer (for Flame Shield and attributes) (maybe Broad Belt of Power if using Ring of Thorns Ring 1: Gwin's Band of Union (instill doubt and more INT) Ring 2: Iron Circle (more CON and more armor) Alternate Ring Option: Ring of Thorns Weapons: Drawn in Spring, Stilettos (Bleak Fang, Azureith's Stiletto, etc.), Clubs (War Club of the Mataru, etc.), Steadfast, Nightshroud, St. Ydwen's Redeemer, Abydon's Hammer Shields: Sura's Supper Plate, Aila Braccia, Little Savior The idea behind this build, mechanically, is to make use of Skaen's sneak attack bonus even when casting; thus, a retaliation armor and Sura's Supper Plate are preferred, along with Vulnerable Attack and high Might, to cause decent pain to anyone who dares attack this priest. Since late-game priests spend a lot of time casting and not as much time doing melee damage, the retaliations are a nice way to double-dip on the damage, so to speak. I could also see going for a non-godlike and using a helm with Preservation on it so that I can stick with Sura's Supper Plate; Maybe Garodh's Chorus or the He Carries Many Scars helm. If using Garodh's Chorus, could use a different armor than Vengiatta Rugia due to the retaliation effect on the helm, but that would mean losing the sneak attack bonus if not using Glanfathan Stalking Boots. Maybe could even do Maegfolc Skull with Coat of Ill Payment and Glanfathan Stalking Boots, but then we'd have to use Malina's Boots or Ring of Thorns for Preservation. Or... I could stick with Fire Godlike and Vengiatta Rugia, and use Malina's Boots? Problem is... Malina's Boots are an Azzuro item, so no guarantee of getting it... Maybe replace one of the rings with Ring of Thorns then? Any thoughts or feedback on this build idea, especially around the questions below, are welcome. Fire Godlike or non-Godlike? If non-Godlike, what race? Human for Fighting Spirit and Might? Hearth Orlan for more crits? Coastal Aumaua for stun/prone resistance and Might? Which configuration of equipment sounds best? Am I crazy to try such a retaliation priest? Could it actually work alright, or even well? Should I lower Constitution more, given how much priests can buff themselves? EDIT: Double-checked my memory of Garodh's Chorus helm; it only has Preservation OR Retaliation, not both.
  19. Has this been tested further? more specifically, does Driving Flight and/or Vicious Aim work with the Whispers of Treason and Dominate spellbinds? What about the Overwhelming wave spellbind?
  20. Another nice thing about this build idea is that we only need 2 pieces of equipment to boost every stat except PER: the cap and the belt. Add in a PER enchant on your armor and you’ve got boosts to all stats. Then add in rings of protection and deflection, the gloves of speed, and maybe a preservation enchant, and you’ve got quite a defensive powerhouse. Don’t forget arcane veil and wall of draining, of course! EDIT: and llengrath’s displaced image, too, for reflex.
  21. Ah well. I suppose I could do an Island Aumaua Sorcerer’s apprentice for my Spellbind-using build idea. Hrmmm… maybe I’ll still go with Chanter, though, since it gives the Chanter something to do in crucial fights besides sing.
  22. it’s been awhile since I played Pillars 1 (I’ve recently come back to it), and I wanted refresh my memory on something: What abilities which add lashes or damage affect spells? Example Lash and Lash-like Abilities: Chanter’s fire lash chant Chanter’s Old Siec draining chant Rogue’s Deep Wounds Rogue’s Deathblows Monk’s Turning Wheel Monk’s Lightning Strikes Monk’s Blood Testament Gloves Barbarian’s Blooded I know that Rogues have abilities which do so; the Sorcerer’s Apprentice build is based on this fact. However, what about the others?
  23. For a solo character, could use Good Friend crossbow for Holy Power spellbind! EDIT: this would allow for different headgear if one doesn’t wish to use the company captain’s cap. Still, the immunities on that cap are nice.
  24. Maybe because it’s not Foe Only in Deadfire? I was thinking of maxing will with 18 INT and 20 RES (or 19, 19 if you prefer a bit longer durations over 1 deflection), putting 14 in MIG and CON, dumping Dex and having 9 PER. With the equipment Bat**** Crazy Druid has except for hat and belt (and a ring of deflection instead of bramble ring), which would be replaced with Company Captain’s Cap and Belt of the Royal Deadfire Cannoneer, we can reach an 13% chance of the spell grazing the wild Orlan. Use little savior, and all you need is +8 will to get immunity. Maybe rest in a place in the keep that gives a bonus to RES or INT and use a consumable that increases will, or use Llengrath’s Safeguard… oh yeah; I would also wield steadfast.
  25. Has anyone tried using the spell Miasma of Dull-Mindedness on an Orlan Wizard with extraordinarily high will? Based on some calculations, it should be possible with the right equipment to make it a guaranteed miss and thus self-trigger Defiant Resolve. This assumes that the Spellward amulet/starlit garb spell defense bonus works on our own spells, too, of course. Also, the wiki states that Defiant Resolve’s duration is unaffected by INT; is this true?
