Pet Peeves from Work... People who don't know how to close the cooler door. People who eats the food they are going to buy before they buy it. People who get gas run in plop the money down and run out when I have a line of customers before them. People who buy one dollar or less items who puts down a bill larger than a $10 USD. People who call me sir, haus, or anything else other than my name. If you don't know my name it means I don't want to know you. People who take an hour to decide what to get then only gets a 99 cent bag of chips.

For you, you mean. That does not make it so, so don't act like it. Even still, that does not make its life worthless, though you seem to think such. Tell you what, I have an idea. Since that's what you think, let's just go ahead and start killing off all lower forms of animal life, like invertebrates. After all, they don't have a life, do they? While we're at it, let's not worry anymore about cutting down trees. After all, they aren't thinking beings like you and I. Right? That makes it okay. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is why I started with "For me" in my post. Also I don't think its life is worthless but they shouldn't be placed on a pedestal like some religious types do. I just don't see a problem with embryonic stem cell research and I don't see it as "killing" babies. Trees aren't self aware. Don't go to the extremes, Dark Moth, it makes you look silly.

Lucius, you are indeed out of line. Man, and I thought I was bad. Sheesh.
-
Dear freaking god! That is horrible. I hope that man rots in jail for a very long time for that sort of crap.

I might also make the same argument about an infant. It too is utterly helpless on it's own. When do you think a human life becomes alive? For me, it's the moment brain activity begins which is 4 weeks after conception if I remeber correctly. But you never answered my original question. Outside of religous teachings, does human life have value? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> For me, Human life begins when the baby is mature/developed enough in its cognitive process to realize that it exists and reacts to objects and stimuli with more thought than simple basic instinct of an animal.

Well, I am trying to be more restrained in my own comments. I really don't want to offend anybody here with my ranting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Haven't you been banned before for trolling Dark Math? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Banned no, warned yes and it was a well deserved warning which is why I have shown more restraint in my views and postings. I think he is commenting more of Lucius comments than my own.

Right on. No pay to play!

Well, it would take little bounce between Star Wars d20 and 3.5e. It would take some minor tweaking to make them align.

this statement is utterly nonsense. other religions are discussed in public schools. it is a simple fact that religion has dominated the entire history of modern man. to remove all reference of it from public schools would be a disservice to history. for someone who seems so bent on the high road of logic and reasoning, you seem to understand neither. taks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Discussing religion is not the same as "teaching" dogma. You can teach the Historical record of various religions and their impact on society and civilization, but not conduct services like doing a school prayer. In fact I am all for teaching critical thinking about religion, all religions that way an individual can find one that suits his or her spiritual needs if he or she has any, but at the point of actually practicing the religion that is a private affair.
-
Doesn't matter if Creationism is a part of other religions and such. It is part of religious dogma and therefore has no place in public schools. That is the bottom line here. If you guys want to nitpick, fine, but that is my view on it and it will not change.
-
Of course. Those are the only Republicans I worry about.
-
Just curious Sand, where did you ever see the Repubs violating the establishment clause? It states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". If you were referring to introducing intelligent design in text books it was to be taught in addition to evolution. Not to the exclusion. And I just searched www.house.gov using the terms "intelligent design". There are no and have been no bills about it. Is there another one I missed? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Teaching Intelligent Design in public schools is one of them. Intelligent Design is Creationism and that comes straight out of the Bible, thusly religion. There were a number of Republicans here in Iowa that stated if they were elected they were push for replacing the teaching of evolution with Intelligent Design. Most notable being the republican lieutenant governor candidate.
-
Agreed, Di, it just seems that the majority of Republicans have policies of the issues I care about most that are repugnant to me. Breaking separation of church and state is a major no-no in my book.

So I just remembered something...How long has it taken you to beat the game? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Haven't yet. I am suffering from Chronic Character Restart. There are just too many character choices that I want to try them all. I am working on a Artificer Mage-type now and plan on finishing the game with her. There are a few things that I do not like about the game but there are a lot more that I do.
-
Interesting view, not one I wholly disagree with but not one I wholly agree with either.
-
No, I said the majority not all. Nearly every Republican running for office here in Iowa were for embryonic stem cell research, want to place gay marriage bans in our constitution, ban all abortion (and I do mean all), and teaching Intelligent Design (teaching creationism which is a religious doctrine) at our public schools. These same views, in one form or another, were spout of by Republicans in several other states as well. I don't care how good of an economic plan a politician has, if he can't keep church and state separated and will not promote equal civil liberties for all that are governed then there is no way I will vote for him.

How about bears, oh my? )

That is why I don't give my NPCs potions. I deal with such things manually.
-
Lucius, I think you are going a tad overboard.
-
Not all but enough of them to sour the whole bunch. I know it will never happen, but it is good to have goals.
-
you mean like, property rights, capitalism, etc... right? i.e. baaaa. taks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope. I mean by using religion as a excuse to hold back technological and medical advancement. I mean by using religion to justify bigotry and making constitution amendments to support it. I mean using outdated "conservative" traditions and prejudices that have no place in a modern civilization. The Democrats are a step in the right direction but we can go farther and make sure we can have a society free of hate, prejudice, and backwards thinking. If the majority of the Republicans had their way we would be a Christian nation much like Iran is a Islamic nation. Last thing I want to live in is a theocracy.
