  1. Watching Deraldin not sleeping...
  2. Thief is only an RPG if you use the "you play a role" definition of RPG. Which is stupid.
  3. Surely people can tell when their own hand is so sweaty that the controller could slip out of it?
  4. I remember playing through old Lucasarts and Sierra adventures with a friend in my early teens. Good times.
  5. Of course not but that's not what I'm saying. It not a reason for playing a male, it's a reason one might be unable to play a female, or believe they are unable. And the same is true of female gamers and male characters. A question to the gamers who play both genders, do you play a character who just happens to be the chosen sex, or would or play a character of your own gender differently to your opposite gender, even if the two characters were otherwise identical?
  6. Modern FPS are similar to older FPS in the fact that both are from the first person perspective and both feature shooting. Half-Life 2 and Doom 2 offer very different gaming experiences. And the comment about "shineys... were always a huge part of the appeal of the FPS game to begin with" is simply wrong. Early FPS were never any prettier than other games.
  7. I think the "modified photo" look of most of those portraits is horrible.
  8. Both, though mostly female. I agree with metadigital's comments on male being the default. I've always had many more females in my life than males, particularly in meaningful roles, and I'm not so insecure in my gender identity that I feel the need to stick to my own.
  9. Indeed, I believe people are merely looking for something to criticise. The position is for a level designer, not a level designer/writer, and I think that from Bethesda's point of view, someone with creative writing skills may come up with interesting and believable levels, whereas someone without writing skills may make cool but improbable levels. At least that make more sense than "Lololo Bethesda hates story!!27". I'm not particularly interested though, not in a stupid Sandian way, though, the Fallout world just never appealede to me that much.
  10. Do level designers typically double as writers?
  11. The government paid for my university education, but I get to pay them back eventually.
  12. You can bind the quick save and load commands to any keys you want. I can only assume they changed the save system for the demo.
  13. I joined the BIS boards during IWD2's development. It popped my forum cherry. Good times.
  14. I play the game entirely using the top down camera zoomed out, and like you say, feels a lot like IE to me.
  15. ??? My NWN2 folder takes up almost 6.5 GB fully patched. The folder in My documents only takes up 93 MB, though I'm not far in the game and I only keep 2 saves, besides autosave and quicksave. Where on earth does this 17 GB figure come from?
  16. Sounds like his own way of saying he likes you/have the same values/on the same wavelength. Not a uniquely Australian term anyway.
  17. There is no difference. Whaaa? That's like saying apple pie sounds un-American.
  18. My own experiences have not been slow and glitchy. In fact it's pretty smooth. The only settings I need to turn off are the two water effects. I really like the world graphics, but the characters are merely adequate. I don't find think they're beautiful, but they certainly aren't ugly, and to call them "crude" is ridiculous.
  19. It bugs me when Howard rambles on about "mateship" being something greater than "friendship". It's a load of hairy bollocks.
  20. I summoned Qara's familiar, but if I leave the tavern without her in my party, I get an empty portrait box where it should be. Is there any way to fix this?
  21. I don't think it's so much "the Cylons aren't so bad" as it is we're just as bad as them.
  22. Towns in those places don't need to be liberated as the Orcs aren't in control, though there are many orc camps throughout Nordmar and wiping out each camp earns you a quest completed. I find Nordmar much easier to get lost in as it looks very samey, and the vision obscuring storms don't help. The desert area (Varant), the little I've explored at least, is full of wide open spaces and as such it's easier to spot interesting things.
  23. I think NWN2 looks quite fab. This is where I am currently:
  24. Random thoughts after spending many hours in the game: My first thought on leaving the starting village was that the blurred background effect was that I was on a stage and it was a large painting. I turned it off but that looked crap, so I turned it back on and got used to it and now I quite like it. Except when on the coast, as the blur doesn't gradually fade it and looks completely stupid. Exploration is great. The world is much more unique compared to Oblivion. Sadly I've never found any interesting weapons when exploring, as they either need to be bought or created yourself (that part is good at least). Armour can only be bought, and only when that faction trusts you. And speaking of armour, what the hell is with the huge shoulder armour fetish? It's a good thing you don't have any limits on your inventory, because you're going to want to pick up everything that isn't nailed down, thanks to the constant flow of "Go get me x amount of y" quests. Which are crap, by the way. Far too often you don't agree to do quests, you just get them added to your list during a conversation. Sometime people don't even ask you to do anything, they'll just mention something and it'll become a quest. Like "I've lost my mojo", and then you have "Find Bob's lost mojo" added to your list. There are no journal entries, you just get a snippet of the conversation, and for quest like this you have no indication of what the next step it supposed to be. I hate having unfinished quests in my list. A real example of the above is when I found out some guys dirty secret, I got a quest to tell the Orcs about it, and it didn't make much sense because I'm totally a mad orc killing rebel helper guy. Anyway, I go to every orc in town, and none has a dialogue option to tell on the filthy secret keeper. I found out who I had to tell later when I killed him during a liberation and failed the quest. Whatever. My main motivation for liberating towns is removing crappy quests from my list. I've explored most of forest land, a whole heap of Nordmar, and my character was roaming around desert world and then I just kinda lost interest and don't really see myself going back to it. There are so few females in the land that the few who exist must see as much action as that girl smurf.
  25. I bet Robyn Kramer is crying herself to sleep every night over this.
