is there a difference between rpg and fps anymore?
Hell Kitty replied to Kalfear's topic in Computer and Console
Since when does "an RPG which makes use of the players reflexes is still an RPG" equal "oh my god guys lets make all RPGs into FPG lolz!1"? This is a ridiculous overreation on your part and part of the bitterness Diamond referred to early in the thread. Thank you! There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I'd be pretty bored if all RPGs were the same. Sometimes I want fp and sometimes iso, sometimes I want realtime action combat, and sometimes turn-based tactical combat. Just because you or I may like a particular type of RPG, doesn't mean other types of RPGs aren't RPGs at all. I prefer to pretend that LARPing doesn't exist. Anyway... The other day I was watching my little nephew play Metal Gear Solid. Solid Snake is supposed to be a legendary warrior, but the way my nephew played, you'd think Snake had never used a gun, never been in a fight, and wouldn't know what stealth meant even if he just looked it up in the dictionary. My nephews low skill level cancelled out Snakes high skill level. That's just the nature of games, rpgs or not. Say a gamer playing an iso turnbased RPG, and their high level party gets into a fight with a group they could easily beat, but end up losing the fight due to the poor choices they made every turn. Like the MGS example, this is a case of the players low skill level cancelling out the characters high skill level, and according to the definition some people seem to be using, would rule out turn-based tactical RPGs as RPGs. RPGs aren't about using character skills and not player skills, afterall, a game that uses no player skills isn't a game at all. They take the skills of the player and the skills of the character/s and combine them to determine the outcome of any particular action. What seperates RPGs from other genres is that the skills/stats of the characters don't remain static, and building them up over the course of the adventure is a big part of the gameplay. -
Finishing Runaway 2. Playing through Rainbow Six Vegas. Starting The Awakened, which combines Sherlock Holmes and everyone's favourite, Cthulhu. Yay!

Hah, yeah, I just realised that the second before I saw your reply. In that case I don't remember the leech zombies at all. Were do they appear?
-
The zombies that reform after you kill them. I'll see if I can find out what they were called. Leech zombies. God, I hated those things. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Those guys really aren't that bad, and there isn't really a lot of them. Soon after you encounter them for the first time, you'll find the

The Escapist: The Rise and Fall of Troika
Hell Kitty replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
I just checked the ToEE folder in my "Patches & Mods" folder, and these are the files I have: Circle_of_Eight_Mod_Pack_4.0.0.exe TempleFrontend.exe TOEE_PATCH1_ENU.EXE TOEE_USA_ANY-PATCH2.EXE ToEE_Fan_Fixes_V3-0-4.zip I loved the TB combat, and I never thought that would happen after JA2 ruined all TB combat games for me. Not a game to play for the story and characters, coz those are crap. Can't beat 2 bucks, though. -
The Escapist: The Rise and Fall of Troika
Hell Kitty replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
^ In what way did Troika "break new ground"? I enjoyed all their games immensely (though I never played ToEE without fan patches), but there was nothing in them that hadn't been done before, or significantly better than what came before. -
I loved JA2 combat, and S^2 combat even more, so this news has lodged itself deep in my special place. Much, much better than the other JA sequel stuff that was being worked on.

Whether or not something is immersive depends on how you feel about that particular something, so trying to prove to Sand (or anyone else) that one or the other is more immersive is as pointless as trying to prove a food he thinks tastes awful is infact delicious. It isn't an issue that can be resolved, and the problem people have with you Sand, is the constant repetition, though I guess we are to blame too, because it's not like we have to reply... That's rubbish. Including both first and third person views doesn't make for a mediocre game. -

I agree with everything Diamond has posted. Old games didn't make players "use their mind" any more than modern games, and there is too much sand in this thread. -
It's been a long time since I played it (I've been meaning to play through all 4 for a while now), but I didn't think 2 had a "other world", with everything taking place in the "misty" Silent Hill?

Suicide isn't a result of running away from a problem, so much as an inability to deal with a feeling. I'd say people who feel suicidal want to deal with their problems but feel it is an impossible task. They believe the misery they are suffering will never end and therefore life is no longer worth living. People who are suicidal are already in a weakened mental state and accusing them of cowardice or selfishness ("you'll hurt those you leave behind") is more likely to make the situation worse. I've often heard people claim that suicide is something everyone has thought of at some point or another, but do they really, or are they simple having an emo style tantrum without ever having any intention of killing themselves, and they just assume that's what it means to feel suicidal. Kind of like saying "everyone feels a bit depressed now and then" when referring to clinical depression.

Congressman wants to use the Qur'an when sworn in
Hell Kitty replied to julianw's topic in Way Off-Topic
I was taught in Catholic religious classes that whenever we do good, it was God working through us, that we are able to do good because God exists. We do bad things because we give in to our apple eating human animal selves. Whether or not you believed in the deity was unimportant. -

The new may contradict the old, but it's still part of the Christian bible. If Christians were truly concerned with the teachings of Christ then the new testament would be the only part that matters, but that isn't the case. Ensuring that homosexuals don't share the same rights as everyone else, for instance, goes against the whole don't judge others thing the new testament has going on. If Christians were truly concerned with the teachings of Christ then I'd probably still be one of them. Oh, and the site you linked to shows that both the quran and bible are full of some sick ****: Anotated Bible -
The sister of the best friend of the guy at the bus stop told me that if you use PS2 discs in a PS3 then the disc will melt then explode and then a nun will eat a baby.

Hell Kitty replied to julianw's topic in Way Off-Topic
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to swear on a book if that book means nothing to you. Unless it means I can get away with lying in court... Anyway, if muslims can swear an oath on the Qur'an then everyone will have to convert to Islam and marry homosexuals and go to prostitutes and have abortions so yeah, dead horse. -
Or you would have said some like "people of forums.obsidianent.com have you tried Silkroad Online?" Anyway, I've noticed a hell of a lot of banner ads for free MMO's on numerous websites lately, but the fact that they're free always seems like a negative rather than a positive. Like there must be something wrong with them if they're not charging. Heh.

The henchmen in G3 have more in common with FPS NPC allies, such as when you have companions in Half-Life 2. They follow you around and help in combat but that's about it. In NWN2 for the most part we have the same control of henchmen as we do our PC. we decide how they level up (though unable to choose class) what weapons, armour and items they use, and can have full control over them in battle. Some have their own quests and there is lots of dialogue with them and between them. For the G3 henchmen to be of a lesser quality than those in NWN2, they would have to feature these same things, instead they don't feature them at all. Is a 2D painting of a man a lesser quality artwork than a 3D sculpture of the same man?
-
I suspect it's more to do with matching the animation of the characters (body language, facial expressions) with the perfomances of the voice actors. Probably less of an issue with big robots like Transformers.
-
The quality is not comparable, because they are two completely different things. It's like saying a modern PC is higher quality than a calculator. The henchmen in NWN2 are far more interesting and play a largere role than those of Gothic 3 but that isn't about quality.
-
someone ban this bot pls
-
Actually, you did compare them, doofus. By saying NWN2 henchmen were better than G3 henchmen. My point is that they are handled so completely differently in these two games that they "are not comparable". Saying they both have henchmen is as worthless as saying both HL2 and GT feature vehicles. If the poster asking about party members was referring to something along the lines of NWN2/BG/IWD, then no, it doesn't have that.
-
The henchmen in G3 are not comparable to those NWN2. At all.
