  1. Well put, this same drama has unfolded throughout all ages of human history. Nothing is as inevitable as change. It would appear to be so but humans are limited in their perception in part due to our short life spans. I would argue there is another path. What is it about human nature that has compelled us for so long to follow this one path? For how much longer is this going to be the case? No one super power/empire has held onto dominion of the earth indefinitely. It's like a baton that gets passed from one person to another at different times. In acquiring it they crush other contenders. A vicious cycle. One that has a long term cumulative and detrimental effect on the entire human race. Echoing down generation upon generation. Sometimes I think that as a race, humans are being tested to see if we can coexist harmoniously. If certain tales are to be believed at one time we did, but it didn't suit a certain some one / someone's. This constant and millennia old infighting in a way reminds me of a certain tale from NWN; you know the one with the elves and the dwarves.
  2. The human mind has a proclivity to make association by proximity. This is just one contempory example. Others are Australia and New Zealand and the current Israeli occupation of Palestine and only a mere decade ago, Apartheid.
  3. Interesting. Shouldn't this be in the Off topic section?
  4. I voted KOTOR II. Its a truly wonderful game it's just unfortuntate Obsidian didn't have enought time to complete it. KOTOR, now that game has that thang that made Baldur's gate a unique experience. Bioware deserves much respect.
  5. True story <Joey Crackadawn voice>
  6. Easily fixed with a patch. It still requires a few patches to optimize it, that
  7. Hmm. Brings back sad memories. City of Heroes after Issue 5. :'(
  8. Saw this yesterday via a weblink on the Gothic forums. I see mkreku found it earlier. A most asinine review if ever I saw one. Anyhoo the game is a master piece, barring bugs which, as we speak are being ironed out. Be patient true believers. Gothic 3 is T3H UB3RZ :joy:
  9. Designed to simulate no doubt, non linear game play. How do you define non linear game play/plot? By freedom given to the player to do as he/ she wishes in a given game environment or by multiple but finite prescripted and as such predefined path ways in the game? Both these options only attempt to capture or give the player the "illusion" of freedom. Hence, it can be argued that games no matter how open ended they may seem can never truly be non linear. They can only be pseudo open ended. Even the universe we live in is thematically prescripted as it must conform to certain pre
  10. Ok the only Ultima series I have played is Ultima 9. I haven't played Ultima 7 and am not certain how similar both games are. However, when it comes to open ended, non linear game play very few games manage to pull it off. Attempting a game which is non linear such as the last two Elder Scroll games can be counter productive. Hence very few developers go down that path. One game I would recommend for any one seeking open ended game play or rather a hybrid of open and linear ended game play is the very first in the Gothic series, Gothic 1. This game seamlessly melded the finer aspects of open ended game play with linearity towards the end. Plus it is a truly brilliant game IMO. PS: I refrained from mentioning MMO games such as WoW as they are not single player games. While they may not suffer from the limitations of most single player games their sin lies in a linearity of another kind. Grinding.
  11. Glad to know uv found a way to enjoy the game, as it is a brilliant game indeed. On the issue of the game engines however, NWN2 runs on heavily revamped and recoded version of NWN's Aurora Engine. Infact we might as well call it Aurora 2, although in official circles its called the Electron Engine. KOTOR/ KOTOR 2 on the other hand, run on the Odessy Engine which while based on the original Aurora are radically different so as not to be the same. The two games and their graphic engines are really quite distinct.
  12. Hehe Firewine Bridge all those zombies, the bard, the boastful weapons master and the crazy lady ... that brings back fun memories. No license for me though i'm an I.E. fanhead. Seriously I've recently been on the Bioware forums and some of the stuff ppl come up with as to what / why they don't like NWN 2 just makes me rofl. Lolz at Volo doing crowd control on the Bio forums. I long since stopped posting on those forums.
  13. Mmm highly subjective then. I mean I have played it for some time now and TBH I'm yet to find a single game breaking bugg in the game. This game is easily one of the best crpgs of 2006. Oblivion with all its posturing and hype can't stand to it. Instead of joining the band wagon because its easier to do so, ppl should pick up the game and play it, make an informed descision for themselves. Or not. Thing is even with all the nay sayers, ppl who are gonna buy this game will buy it regardless.
  14. For the most part you are correct. However, Guildwars would be the exception to this rule. There is no monthly sub fee required to play, its free. Its got really good graphics and isn't a system hog. Where it fails to excel IMHO would be game difficulty (it
  15. I'll ask you one question. Have u played Gothic 3? Or are you merely going by the clueless online magazine reviews / misinformed general consensus on these forums, by ppl content to criticize said game without bothering to see what it
  16. Meh. There are many things dnd does unsatisfactorily. IMO WoW gets the dynamic of wizards (mages) and sorcerers (warlocks) much better than dnd. Wizards or mages harness and manipulate matter/energy. Their sort of discipline could be called white magick as it
  17. It's best to get the game and try it yourself. Relying on *other* ppl to review a game for you isn't always best. I think its a good game and i m getting it (as soon as i can get away from WoW ). Anyhoo Gamer. Tv gave Dark Messiah 4 out of 5, pretty good IMO.
  18. Wow! (w00t) Thanx a million Musopticon for linking that. Those trailers are t3h r0xx0rZ! Is this game better than Oblivion? Many times over. Compared to this game Oblivion was flat, 2 dimensional. So was its predecessor Morrowind. This game pushes the game mechanics and feel of adventure to new levels. Having played Arx Fatalis, one of Arkane Studios previous games I am already a fan of their work. Arx Fatalis was a good game as well and one can see they expanded the 3 dimensional feel to their game world in Dark Messiah. Kinda reminds me of when Severance Blade of Darkness came out, there was nothing like it on the market, same goes for this game. I see there's a slight nod to the Pirhana Bytes Gothic series, ending ur enemies by delivering the coup de gr
  19. Hehe! Xan and his moon blade, just one of the many memorable characters in Baldur's gate. The Infinity Engine games were for me at least the golden age of pc rpg's. :D Well as for what I'm playing now, that would be WoW. Yep I've just renewed my sub and cancelled the one on CoH/CoV. Reasons as to why I left coh (this isn't the first time) are best left unsaid. Suffice it to say I'm none to happy with the direction that MMO has taken since issue 5. Given that the devs from CoH /CoV (Cryptic) are working on the new Marvel Universe Online MMO, it really begs the question as to whether they can do justice to that franchise. Their track record IMHO isn't too good. Speaking of MMO's is any1 doing one based on the Forgotten Realms, I understand the one based on Eberron didn't do too well. Duh! Like they couldn't forEsee that. <_<
  20. Hardly. <_< Here's hoping, they use this time to fix the mage class talents, so that we can once again be T3H UB3RZ! (w00t)
  21. This one is easy; Jedi Outcast is clearly the superior installment of the series. Its sequel was merely a follow up to cash in on the success of its forerunner, and everything about it showed. It was made for hardcore fans of the original who would not mind more of the same even though in quality terms it wasn't on par with the original. By the time it was actually released its graphic engine (Quake 3) was old, yes it was ok in some regards like the double/ dual wielding and a few touches here and there but it still fell short of the original. Sides Kyle had style.
  22. Heh, Kotor2 was not as you say a disaster. Back in 2004 on these same boards, there was speculation that LA did not allocate sufficient time for Obsidian, to complete the game as necessary. Despite the somewhat intractable conditions the game was developed in, they still brought us a game worthy of merit. Kotor2 was a much more mature game than its predecessor, even though you could tell in some places it was incomplete. I would not mind a Kotor III, but I
  23. Now, having said all that, I don't think Revan is a given name. Revan is the man's Darth name.....MARK MY WORDS, BOY! MARK THEM WELL! YOU CAN FRET ALL YOU LIKE BUT YOU CANNOT DENY DESTINY!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "Revan had many masters, Zhar, Dorak, Master Kae before Kae left for the Wars. Towards the end of his training, he sought out many to learn techniques. It is said that he returned to his first master at the end of his training, in order to learn how he might best leave the order."
  24. Nah! Not even close. Information on this was released on the US CoH forums like a month ago, by one of the Cryptic devs no less. Concerns in the CoH/CoV community are mainly about whether having a significant part of Cryptic's dev team working on Marvel Online will affect further development of City of Heroes/villains. As a long time player of CoH/CoV, I am of the opinion that this MMO is good thing as it will definitely revolutionize the comic book hero/ villain MMO genre. Whether it does so to the eventual demise of City of Heroes/ Villains remains to be seen. Ah well I
