Steam, Playstaion Network and other digital distribution platforms...
I have a question for you about PS+ Do they still disable users from playing digital games they got free from PSN when tje subscription runs out? They used to do that with PS3. Not sure if it's the same, thought I'd ask. That was the only thing I didn't like about PSN.

The difference is huge, PC gaming cannot be "saved" if it didn't die, and it didn't. It's not like Valve resurrected PC gaming but to deny that PC gaming would be what it is and where it is today without Steam would be to deny that the sky is blue. Do you realize how many indies would have never saw the light of day if it wasn't for Steam? Steam may only have started out as simple but it evolved and yes, it did change the industry. You can't take away credit from what it became and grew over the years just because of what or how it originated. That's like saying "A Doctor who's been practicing medicine for 40 years hasn't actually ever done so because they were born an infant child who couldn't possibly realize they were going to be a doctor when they grow up." It doesn't make sense.

PC gaming is where it's at because of rise of digital distribution, which Valve most certainly did not invent. It's like saying there would be no computers without IBM. Attributing success of PC as a platform to Valve is completely ignoring evolution of the platform itself. A different company would rise with the same concept if it weren't for Valve, and indeed, even back at the inception of Steam there were several competing digital distribution platforms - Valve just had Counter Strike and Half-Life so they had position on the market they could abuse.I'm looking at it this way... Judging by all the evidence of developers/publishers treating PC ports already, if Steam were to suddenly vanish, then that would cause a cataclysm for PC gaming as a whole. Developers/Publishers would pretty much abandon PC gamers realistically - instead of going to GoG/Galaxy or Origin. I mean, Steam is the giant of PC gaming, why in earth would they want to stay if the mighty leader has fallen? I think Digital distribution is only a part of it though, not everything of PC gaming's success is due to Digital Distribution, It's more of the busibessman who sells it and how they are able to entice the audience. Steam pressed new features that had never really been done before, Valve pretty much invented the Social Gaming aspect of what makes gaming today and the (PC gaming) online competitive market space - flash sales, etc... Without Steam, it all would have never existed and that's what keeps PC gaming afloat. Like Katphood said, the community aspect is a huge thing. Alot of GoG-only users tend to forget that devs actually talk to people on Steam forums. That's a huge thing of why Steam is evolving and keeping PC gaming afloat. Of course there are other reasons - marketplace, Greenlight, things like this are what makes PC gaming thrive. So Steam has really been the only ones to not only keep PC gaming afloat but also evolve it. I am not trying to sound biased, just giving credit where it is due. I won't say that Valve saved gaming because PC gaming never died. Steam is definitely the only catalyst for PC gaming though but asking that question to people on other forums brings about interesting results with valid detail and lush reason: https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/916373-pc/69281273?page=1

You do realize that you just contradicted yourself in the same sentence? Steam isn't Valve and I never said that Valve saved PC gaming so no, I didn't. However, PC gaming is where it's at because of Steam, whether people want to admit that or not, that's up to them.

Steam, Playstaion Network and other digital distribution platforms...
This is only easy to say because you know it won't happen, nobody said or is acting like Valve is the savior to PC gaming but it's more ignorant to act like PC gaming would be anything without Steam. Steam holds the majority of PC gaming plain and simple, Origin is basically known as EA, GoG is a couple hundred classics... That said, alot of today's best developers/publishers have exists only because of Steam. Let's not forget that truth. It's not like Origin or GoG ever did anything good for PC gaming. Would PC gaming really thrive without Valve? Who exactly would take over or take the place? I doubt it, it would barely survive at best. Realistically developers and publishers would forsake PC gaming and switch 100% focus to consoles, I mean why would they risk more loss of money and trust anyone else after Valve gets shut down? It wouldn't make sense. Hmmm... almost seems this thread is becoming more and more of "Who should get shut down?" vs "Who would get shut down?" but as I said before, alot of people here are anti-Steam or would love for it to die. Thank God it won't!

Steam wins in alot of ways. That's why Origin and GoG will definitely lose before it ever does (aside from the active user count). There's no competition here. I know that alot of people here want Steam to fail so badly because of certain things but let's face it, PC gaming is dependent on Steam, it's not dependent on GoG.

This is not the real case. In reality, GoG would probably be the first to go out against Origin, Steam and uPlay because GoG has a far lesser audience and probably makes the least money. If anything I'd say GoG and Origin are the ones in need of an overhaul because they are far behind Steam is sales and marketing representation but enlighten me, which part of Steam needs an overhaul? If you're talking anout getting rid of the crappy RPGmaker games, that's already been fixed. It's called Valve Direct. I wouldn't worry about crappy $0.99 games anymore, besides that it's really hard to take anyone seriously who complains about them when you can filter them out so easily to where you literally never see them. Wrong. Humble Bundle is a vendor, not a platform so you can't compare it to the likes of Origin, Steam, Origin. Wothout Steam, Humble would sieze to exist. Just look at how many Steam users buy from Humble and you'll see. I'll just say that aside from a few clssics and being DRM-free, GoG is at major disadvantes and won't ever be able to compete directly with Steam. For every 1 game that GoG offers that's not on Steam, Steam has like 100 lol And while someone here will say "I'd rather have that one good game than 100 bad ones" well that's biased nature and again, shouldn't really be taken seriously. After all, everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Steam is better suited for the modern gamer who wants a good social experience and a broader selection of quality games but seeing how this forum is nade up of people who prefer GoG, I'll just leave it at that. Same here. I use Steam, GoG, Origin, Windows Live, PSN, XBL. I use Steam more than everything but am nt biased to any one in particular.

Origin and GoG would definitely die far before Steam ever will. DRM and/pr additional DRM's have nothing to do with the longevity of the platform but only a very VEEY small portion of the user base will not use a platform because of DRM. It's all about the games and what it pushes. Steam is the leader for that and always will be. On the other hand, Windows Live gaming platform has less users than any of those and makes the least money but will outlive everything because... Microsoft owns it. I wouldn't be surprised if Ubi suddenly got rid of uPlay one day and gave a free game or two to all of its angry users because of it. PSN and XBL will outlive Origin and GoG for sure. There's a huge social aspect that beats both and that's exactly why. It's user friendly and easy to get into. I'm not too sure about Nintendo. I don't have alot of experience in their store, online systems, etc to give enough of an opinion on that. I know that it's not as developed as any of the other ones I talked about but that's all I can really say atm. I think we can agree that Steam has a clear safety met advantage over everything else. The fact that it's consumer market alone could keep the platform afloat, add to that the fact that Steam doesn't just sell games which people tend to forget - it also sells engineering tools, school/education products, movies/showss, editing software.. It's the most developed platform, there's no question about it.

So happy I found this forum........
I've decided to switch from mouse to thumb-initiated trackball today, mainly because I usually play games with a controller - but the mouse I had before was actually a touchpad on a Logitech K400 Combo (wireless keyboard with a laptop type touchpad built in) so that is the thing I wanted to announce. The one I got is the Logitech M570 Thumb-ball. I think it will be great for Fps and I say this only because I just got Lawbreakers which made me realize that I need something other than a controller to play competively with in the first place. Thank you all for listening, you all are the reason I remain and will always remain on the forum here <3

What are you playing right now?
I don't like the sound of that I like to be rewarded with a small break of a quiet room where I can go to the corner (to think about things) and loot a few boxes for new weapons or more ammo without worry... a little break before the action starts up again. I just may be getting old though... or maybe I'm turning into a giant rat.

Avoid the first and fourth and Gat Out Of Hell. SR2 & SR3 are definitely the best in the series The reboot and it's sequel are phenomenonal right? I love that Lara actuallyhas emotion and depth now. The character feels real. As someone who's played all the old games and watched the movies, I'll say that it's nice to see Tomb Raider get the effort it deserves. Are you going to get Lawbreakers?

I highly recommend a gamepad or you may get frustrated at the later parts of the games. Bare in mind that these games were made for controller use in mind. I'm going to recommend Lawbreakers for you.https://youtu.be/tEDetLi78OY

I have never played a Metroid or Castlevania game but from what I gather, people who have played them are saying the very same thing as you are saying.Hollow Knight is just that good p.s Jst wait til the later bosses, some of the most intense boss fights ever made, like Ys' bosses it puts Dark Souls to shame. p.s.s While the game takes the average player around 25 hours-ish to complete, it takes the average player 40+ hours to discover/explore the whole map... that's a 2D map... it's very impressive and the game was only made by 3 people if I remember correctly. Masterpiece. Off topic-because I don't wanna spoil anything, do u gain the ability to dash later in-game or are u able to from the start? Without spoiling so I know if my controller is working or not. Later!

Yeah :-/ Now it's about publisher sales which are the most frequent type of sales on Steam...and let's face it, no publisher has published 100% good games so those sales suck. As far as seasonal sales, I think it depends on how new you are to pc gaming. If you have been around for 2 years or longer and own over 100 games, then the Steam sales will probably not have much use for you but if you're new to pc gaming, or have a small incomplete library with no backlog... then Steam sales are better than ever. I have been on for 2 years and I don't really get excited for the sales as I once did as a young lad. Maybe that's why I chose to buy just 2 games (one game being $29.99) as opposed to 10 games for that total price. I think it also has to do with maturing in taste... when you have a decent library, you really get to know yourself better - what kind of games you want to play, what you're willing to try, etc. You see your patience develop more, it's a pretty cool thing.

So let me know what you think... Hollow Knight is a sire contender for game of the year on my list. Definitely worth the $15 considering that it takes the average player at least 25 hours to complete and none of that is filler, all of it being quality. I decided to go with Lawbreakers and Azure Striker Gunvolt. Lawbreakers wasn't on sale but since everybody is buying something atm, I figured... what the heck, right?

In terms of realistic simulation, I'd go with old-school Gran Turismo and Forza 5. I also have Driveclub but highly advice against it. There was another japanese racing game that was very realistic but I can't remember the name of it.. I think it was on Dreamcast. My favorite racers are San Francisco Rush 2049, Cruisin USA and Need For Speed. All Hot Wheels-ish racers I love. I tend to go toward arcadey, tis true. Motorstorm games are a nice mix of physics and realism on an arcade course, excudamiting the engine failure system of course.
