A game-stopping "event" because you sold a quest-important item is NOT a glitch ? Also if a game allows you to exploit by for example carry a shield and 2-handed weapon or allows your characters to be buffed for free when they should pay cash what makes it "no glitch"... Please; explain me once again the definition of "bugs", since I always thought they were programming errors allowing things to happen that should not, like game-stopping events and exploits... Also if exploits are usually not bugs, what are they then? Exploits? What is more of a letdown then you having a great time and then see the credits run over the screen when you feel like "just started"? Which will NOT be archieved if we just allow devs to make

But that is not a good way to determine lenght and/or quality. I myself for example finished PS:T in 3 days... doubt alot would say based on that "too short, crap" etc. etc. etc.

Wonder what anti-Bio feelings J.E. Sawyer had then As I already mentioned: Reread it... So he expected JE to sell like BG/NWN/KOTOR? I believe that even less. So did Origin... so did Westwood... So did Looking Glass Studios... So did Ion Storm...

There was also a 3 month difference between North American X-Box release and X-box and PC wordwide release... Something like what happened with DX:IW... Wait, isn't that about the same time difference between the Kotor1 X-box and PC releases " And if they added in the droid-factory for example why couldn't they just also call it "added content"... NOBODY knew it was cut at that time; we figured that out from the ingame files that where left. We would have never figured that out...

I would ask you to reread "Jade Empire is a Total Financial Failure...and I mean beyond your opening post... They got the job... yes. But the same time? Threatment? Support? Not a chance... I was more talking about the way Publishers go around with Devs than 'giving them projects'... And sure, they ain't newbies, but games like PS:T, while giving them a rep of making excellent compelling games, didn't gave them a "bestseller creator" rep... Fact is BioWare was allowed to ship in additional content, as small as it may be, while others could not... the legimit way of the upgrader/site atleast...

Thnx to both Both require a key. I have found a key, but that one works on neither 2. The note with the key also mentioned a valueable ring... making the reason why I wanted the chests opened (to reply to Tigranes "there is nothing in it")... Does magic also allows you to open chests where keys are needed? That seems odd, as it is a nice way to screw storyline-locked doors or whatever... Anyway, thanks again...seems like we are all stomped there...

Being friends with an other dev doesn't help you with the publishers. And the main reason OE got these 2 was because BIO wanted to make something new. If they saw alot of fun into proceeding with the 2 games OE prob. never got them. Nor if BIO knew before what a failure JE would become...

BioWare has more power than Obsidian... (Since it is the only game OE made so far we go compare the Kotors again...) Kotor1 had 3 patches and a bonus planet (Yavin) Kotor2 had (along time later) 2 patches (unfinished) and an "movie/music" patch, which was quasi-leaked, as you can't get it from the official site(s). Request for adding in additional content were... rejected

Since the ini stuff you posted was a reply to the posts quoted beneath, who wonder why AA disables screenshot creation... EDIT: Nobody knows Anything about the Pale Pass chests? Seeing as every person in this thread has clocked in WAY more hours than me that seems a little unlikely...

They had the dev time from BG2... is that a 20 hours game? Ofcourse due to 3D and new animation and stuff it might take longer to make a single gaming-hour. But I sincerly doubt a company that can make 40 hours of good gameplay in A YEAR (1/3rd of Kotor1) will make only 20 in 3 YEARS (where-in Bioware made 60 (NWN) or 40 (kotor1)...) Why have a 200% speedgain in one project yet slow down 300% (on the original...NOT on the extra 200) in the other if you knew the rushing of content (which now is plenty of time to fix) caused the bad reviews?

We shall see... 2010?

Little prob with npc group !
Hassat Hunter replied to iswat_ulukai's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Alot of Kotor2 NPC's are not of the chatty type. Unlike Kotor1 where you got new stuff everytime here you get everything and then use influence to unlock it. Only exceptions to this rule are Atton (NS trigger), Bao-Dur (influence) and Kreia (several game-occassions) -
It is the same way for both Kotors (and Morrowind)... And no SS it does NOT work with AA, as Eldar also already noted... PS. another bug: If you have 2 weapons that stack poisoning one and then selecting another weapon stacks them again... thus no poison in effect

In order to become a popular method it should happen... Not the other way around

QFT Soon

Depends on the bug I think. Would you be bothered with flickering GFX... guess not Would you be bothered if you were placed in prison, only to find in order to escape you needed X and you had sold X... then I guess you will be bothered, no? Also wouldn't you be bothered by exploits if playing online against others???

New code brings new bugs. Fixing old bugs can bring new bugs (Proof: 1.0B). that is usually WHY there is more QA at the end than at the begin... because even if you get it bugproof in Alpha you can be sure of ALOT of new ones in Beta...
-
We? And there is also something as too fanatical... Radical...

25 doesn't really looks like alot to me. Especially if that is QA at Obsidian AND Atari. Good thing that near the end of development entire squads are going in (or so I hope... *shivers*Kotor2, Vampire, Dungeon Siege2*shivers*

How many copies did Black&White sell. How many of these where due to the name Peter Molyneux? How many gamers where dissapointed? I know alot of people who own Black&White, yet NONE like the game a bit... Brainwash detected. Possible cure: 100 hours of Daikatana. That will fix "grandeur issues" or so I heard... Agreed. If there is NOTHING in the game from the devs what makes me buy the game, only the community created stuff why give out $50 to those Devs? Rather wait till the price dropped; there is a clear list of "good mods (help seperate the crap from the *must play*" and the issues in the game are fixed then... EDIT: Oh noes... fast filled 10 pages. Wouldn't it be time to lock it and open part II and fill that one in 1 hour too?
-
If you think the current 30-40 hours not good, why would you expect OE can do way better in a shorter period of time? Main question is: WHY do you think the 30-40 are not good... do you really find the additional 10 hours of content is hurting a game, even if that prevents "PS:T type of gameplay" that can make a game like 10 hours chatting, 5 hours combat, 10 hours chatting, 20 hours combat and thus utterly "when does the chatting (when in combat) or when does the fighting starts (after loads of chatting)"?
-
Point is there is no reason to know IF they took their time to make a appropriate 40 hours campaign, or even a 20 hours. And if that is unknown and you look at most current RPG's (30-40) hours while they also have good quality one CANNOT be pleased by "just" 20 hours of play... The longer the better. I rather have 40 hours of 30 hours 9 content and 10 hours 7.5 content than 20 hours of 9.5 content... but that can be me...
-
Indeed. But that means that (even with an as long dev time as BG2) you cannot state that they have put the best of the best in that 20 hours... (Repeat: IF it is 20 hours)
-
Dev Time CAN go to waste... Duke Nukem Forever Daikatana Freelancer S.T.A.L.K.E.R just to mention a few...

Comparing a video-game with any other medium and then expect the same time of gameplay is kind of weird. Do you REALLY wan't to play a 45-min game, the avarage time of a TV-show? Are you happy when you played Call of Duty or Medal of Honor or whatever if the landing scene was done in 15 minutes, and the entire game in 1.5? It is just a fact that games should last longer than many of the things you mentioned, unless you rather have the game devs make a similar design of 45 min "episodes" of games and then selling these every week... a sort of even worse design than Half-Life2's Episode bull... Llyranor you have an awfull lot of faith that IF there is really 20 hours (that, with the current wordchoice of Feargus I doubt) there will be no "filler". Fact is you CANNOT make a game without that if you wan't to have quality. Would you like it if you barely kill a Goblin and then 10 min later have no trouble ending the life of a Dragon? "Filler" is also part of a game that makes the game good; remove it and all you have remaining might be the important stuff but it will be bland and inconsistent without the filler. Not a single game EVER created has proven me that this is possible otherwise. And then you come with "I don't feel any satisfaction in wiping out an ENTIRE building of every living piece of crap in there". Might I point you out what OE did with the Jekk Jekk Tar? And it was fun too! No, if there is 20 hours, it will be 20 hours with the filler, and thus WAY too short for any decent story/immersion/fullfillment
