Wow - slow news day huh?
-
I think they are waiting for us to offer something in return - Pizza and Beer usually works...

How would you not be dual weilding using a pistol and blade? I count two hands needed?
-
I thought this was a listing of all the wearable items found in the current BB build...

What is your favorite class at this point?
wanderon replied to Marceror's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Rangers/pets are problematic in BB (pathfinding, doorways, Pet means adventurer cannot be added) so I suspect they are not getting the play they might otherwise I am a fan of ranger and ranger/rogue from IE games and hope this ranger gets some love in the next update so I can take one for a spin for more than a single battle or two. In other news I am liking the druid a lot even without the shapeshift - for my money the shapeshift might be more useful if you had the option to shift to more than one type (perhaps as you gained levels) and thus different damage types but frankly the druid has more than enough going for it without the shapeshift at all (IMO) I like the fighter too - have not completely figured out how to make the barbarian most useful yet. Cleric is a good buff bot otherwise kind of meh altho I should probably test a PC cleric - so far opinion just based on BB cleric. Took a party into Ogre cave today twice but was unable to exit the cave (black screen once outside) -
Yeah I just attempted to set up a ranger for a rogue type but made the mistake of adding an adventurer and it seems the BB is not capable of dealing with 6 party members plus the rangers pet. The adventurer showed up with the other character portraits but did not move when the whole group was selected. When we finally managed to leave the Inn by moving him on his own to the door (gather your party) once outside his circle was there but his animation was totally washed out and you could not move him. Hope they are planning to resize the pets as well as the bear got stuck in the wall coming down from upstairs as well (before adding the adventurer). It's unclear to me what attributtes would apply for discovering hidden objects - perception "seems" right but it's not specifically mentioned.

There seems to be a lot of discussion on replacing the rogue with other classes (for a variety of reasons) If you don't plan a rogue for your party what class (or classes) will you use to replace them? How do you plan to set them up to do so?

That would be awesome altho if that was the case I'm thinking we might have heard a peep or two about it already. It seems to me my BB is getting more buggy the more I play - but I'm not sure I can uninstall it and be able to reinstall it (As I recall when I first d/l it there was a message about only using the code once).

Nope. Because it would be more like Baldurs Gate.. and you know, Josh Sawyer didn't like it. Well to be fair you can still like Baldur's Gate and hate the character creation it (and Icewind Dale) used. In fact, I started a game of Icewind Dale and I spent more time rolling for attributes than playing yesterday (and they didn't even come out that great ). It was just a dull way to create characters that had more to do with luck (or persistence depending on your point of view) than with player skill. Not that character creation in games where you can allocate points require skill. Not skill perhaps but at least a little thought - I for one am enjoying the idea of working with characters that can have moderate scores in almost everything without being totally gimped. (Not that gimped play isn't fun now and then)

Well that's why I had it in quotes, because it's not really cheating in a SP game... that doesn't mean the game should be designed with easily exploitable mechanics like stat rerolling though. There should be a clear line between playing the game by its rules and changing the rules to suit your own liking (even though there's nothing wrong with doing that). Which is why I would gladly support a mod that implemented BG style rolling for attributes, but not support it as a default game system. Its because it ends up having to do with how the game is built/designed. Theoretically, the game could just give everyone an omni-weapon at the start that kills everyone and people who want an enjoyable game could just not use it. Except that's dumb. Game design is about making choices for the player. Game design is about constraining what the player can do, and then letting the player have fun within those constraints. Just because something doesn't affect another player (the "it's SP" reasonibg) does not make it a good basis for doing it anyway, because "not negatively affecting another player" does not form the basis for making a good game system. The comment was not about game design at all but rather the quaint custom on Game forums (especially RPG forums) where people arbitrarily decide what the "rules" are going to be for them and set out to debate the issue with other people who have decided other rules may fit their playstyle better - Parenthesis or not they still end up debating cheaters and non-cheaters while often times the ACTUAL rules (or lack there of) as set out (or not) by the games developer team may fit suitably for either party. - Sometimes the debate devolves into RP vs power-gaming where sparks truly fly and in either case it can be an entertaining way to spend a few minutes watching the action from the sidelines or occasionally poking one side or the other to keep things moving... That's my only point - carry on as you will...
-
Never understood why people get concerned about how other people play a single player game to the point where threads about the "cheaters" and non-cheaters go on for pages

I like a lot about the druid - best implementation yet I think or it will be when they get the shapeshift worked out - for now my druid shapeshift just stands next to his enemy and twitches - I'd like to see the the shapeshift size reduced to a more "normal" size as well but that may not happen. -

Voted Paladin but my current choice of favorite is actually still very much up in the air - for that matter I'd have a hard time choosing a real "favorite" in the IE games even now after a couple gazillion hours of playtime. Perhaps because what I do best and enjoy most in these games is going back and making yet another concept character/team -
No thanks - even as an option it's not like someone can wave a wand and have it appear - resources would have to be used to put it in place that I would just as soon have working on something more important to me - if I want BG nostalgia I can always fire up BGEE...

That only works under the assumption that a skill like mechanics will be useless in conversations. If OE is doing it right, all skills will end up having an impact on conversation options. I believe all the skills are supposed to have opportunities to be used in conversations - how this occurs is mentioned in the skill descriptions

Intelligence doesn't affect range of spells?
wanderon replied to thelee's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Ranges are listed in the description and vary mostly between 10m & 20m on the ones I have been looking at - at 20m you can cast from outside enemy sight - 10m not so much. My biggest gripe is there's very few single target spells so far and very few that are party friendly either so other than an opening salvo most aoe spells are not very helpful tactically. -
The reason I like the idea of filters is that right now you get a list of all of the recipes and you need to click each one to see if you have the ingredients for it . A filter can show you only the recipes you can make with the ingredients you already have. So filters you can choose or not choose with a button push? Because it might be nice to see only recipies you have the ingredients for but it might be useful to see the better ones you only lack some fairly common materials for before using up some hard to find materials on a lesser one.

I am also curious as to who can use scrolls - anyone? I also assume the scrolls can be used to scribe spells into a grimoire but don't know the mechanics of that either other than noting that right clicking a spell on the use side (right) of the grimoire gives a message that you already know that spell (duhhh)

I've found a couple items that are supposed to grant some sort of power or ability but can't figure out how to "use" them. Necklace of fireballs for instance and the "hidden" staff of the Guildmaster. Equipping them doesn't put anything in your action bar or show a method to use them that I can see. Tried equiping them on casters and others and it didn't make a difference. I found the inventory spot for pets to plop the piglet into but have no clue what if any benefit it or any other "pet" that would fit there would do??

Sensuki's Suggestions #017: Cultural Gear Selection
wanderon replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
And which current combo of class and culture is supposed to get the Estoc currently I have not yet seen one in the beta? -
Eurogamer on Combat XP, Turn-Based Battles
wanderon replied to PrimeHydra's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I suspect that OE is paying less attention to the clamoring from the forums/social media than you surmise. For my money they have been laying on a heavy workload from the moment they began to show off the game this summer and that work is not stopping to debate between themselves over what direction they are heading - I suspect that orders are coming down assignments being given and the entire team is focusing on getting the game finished and what will be will be. Just my opinion of course. -
Are they? This quote: tells us they are as confused about PoE reinventing the wheel as the rest of us. Imagine when he find out Might means **** about being a powerful fighter but a powerful "soul". I don't know - I just made a Aumaua fighter adventurer in the Beta - maxed Might, con & dex - spread the rest out and currently have him in light armors weilding either a pollaxe or Morning Star with dual weapons in his 3rd weapon set I haven't tried out yet and he's acting like a powerful warrior so far....

I played about a gazillion hours of the IE games and this never bothered me even to the point of determining (deciding?) that the lines were written for charname and no one else should "utter" them - to my mind they were just lines written for whomever was speaking...
-
Can only speak for myself and for me more is better so I am happy to have the nuances spelled out. I liked PST also...
