  1. From Wikipedia : ''A book version of the movie was credited to have been written by George Lucas himself, but in reality was ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster, who went on to write the first Expanded Universe novel, Splinter of the Mind's Eye. Certain scenes deleted from the film (and later restored or archived in DVD bonus features) were present in the novel, such as Luke at Toschi Station with Biggs and the encounter between Han and Jabba in Docking Bay 94. Also, some scenes from the movie were included in the novel's photo insert which never made the original film (such as a stormtrooper riding on a Dewback). Some of the material was omitted from the film by Lucas to maintain a linear narrative.'' EU. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That quote actually contradicts your point about the novelization of the original movie ("A New Hope"), since is says that Alan Dean Foster wrote it and then went on to writing the first ever EU novel. By that logic, the novelization of Ep. IV cannot be EU, since "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" is said to be the first EU novel, and the Ep. IV novel was written before that... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are correct, I used the wrong quote. I'm looking for info on the Novel ''A New Hope'' that was released before the movie was in 1977, specifically the release date, not the movie version. Sorry.
  2. First, the current subject is the term ''Sith'', not ''Darth''. Second, in the OT, ''Darth'' is the first name of Vader only. There are no other Darths. Third, most of the EU is Canon, that is not my point. My point is that for a lot of people, mostly those of us who actually grew up waiting for Eps 4-5-6 to come out in theaters in the 70's, Star Wars and all that really counts as Star Wars is only what makes up Eps 4-5-6 in their original filmed and final edited version. Everything else is filler. Fourth, Eps 1-2-3 are EU because they are completely different from Eps 4-5-6 and were made to sell toys, not to revolutionize movie making and amaze us with wonders beyond our imagination. Fifth, the term ''Sith'' is EU. Sixth, again I see nothing wrong with the EU. But it's mostly fanmade and basically the result of speculations as to what happens in GL's mind. I've said this before in other threads of this type : Star Wars is like coffee. You have the OT from 1977 which is like coffee beans that you must grind first to have your coffee in the morning. It's fresh, it smells really good. And then you have the EU, which is like Instant coffee. Still fresh and great, just not as much and you can have more anywhere simply by adding water which, somehow, dilutes the experience.

  4. Smartest thing written in this thread, including my post!
  5. WRONG! The term Sith was used in the original script of A New Hope and in the novel. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Can you hear or read it IN THE MOVIES? No! The novel came after the movie, so it's EU. The original script changed and it was cut. If it's not in the OT, it's EU and it's filler. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True enough that its not said, doesn't mean that the term Sith was not created by EU as you put it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've been saying that the term ''Sith'' came after the OT, with the EU. In the OT, there are only Jedis. Some Jedis ''use'' the Light side of the force (Luke, ObiWan, Yoda) others use the Dark Side (Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine). In the OT, Darth Vader is a name, not a rank or status and DV is the Emperor's goon, not a Dark Lord. He even takes orders from Tarkin. I'm also saying, like many others, that everything Star Wars that is not ON FILM in the OT is EU. The EU is not bad in fact, most of it is really, really good. But it's also a way for some people to make more money using the passion we have for this great made up universe. Somehow, that has always seemed wrong to me. And to many others as well. I'm not dissing the EU, just the fact that it's filler, to keep Star Wars alive so that some people can continue to make money while we starve because we buy to much Star Wars stuff

  7. And then it will Outplode once Duke Nukem Forever becomes official. Actually, DNF is the next Starcraft
  8. Are you kidding? It's going to be a Sims expansion pack from EA. <_< <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No! It will be devellopped by Bethesda and they will make it as a followup to Fallout 3, which will be a followup to Elder Scrolls 4, only with pirates. Cuz EVERYBODY loves pirates! In Starcraft 2 you take control of Master Sarge, a Space Marine Cyborg (father was Marine, mother Cyborg) and you will have to use magic in order to defeat jedi Deathtroopers which are under the control of a space bounty hunter that is actually your sister. Special appearance from the cast of Friends, music by Avril Lavigne and Howard Shore.
  9. The word ''Sith'' is never used in the original trilogy. Not spoken, not written, nada, zip, nothin'. The term came later in the EU therefore, filler. I read somewhere that GL had it in his personal notes on characters for the original trilogy but since it never made it in there and that it is also speculation, it's still filler.
  10. Starcraft 2 will be a first person RPG made by Bethesda
  11. I like D&D too but there are other things to enjoy as well. D&D based video games are usually very good but the experience is different. Nothing can compare to tabletop PnP D&D and the best thing video games can do with that is use the worlds, creatures, peoples and items with some basic, behind the screen number crunching. Asking for a PnP ''simulation'' is just ridiculous. Just go play PnP with your friends! I find D&D based video games to be to restrictive. Level caps, stats/feats limitations for armor and weapons, class restrictions, etc. Somehow it works much better in tabletop PnP. I prefer games like Wizardry( that let you do what you want, be who you want, play as you want. Berserker/Wizard yeah! I also prefer first person games, especially RPGs. Simply more immersive. But thats just me.
  12. The thing with PnP is that you can't save the game before dangerous confrontations... " <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Also, PnP, alone, is boring. Video gaming, alone, is not. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You play video games only because your friends didn't have time to play PnP... Given the choice, I'd go for PnP every time. Video games are just poor replacements for fun with my friends. Oh, and PnP is not boring alone - it's impossible... Unless you have a multiple personality disorder, which I don't... and neither do I <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then stop looking for single player PnP simulations in video games. That should spare the rest of us SOME D&D fanboyism.
  13. What about Hotdog out of people with mustard and mayo? (w00t) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What about returning to the topic?
  14. I love Star Wars with all my heart. But when you look outside of the movies, the expanded universe is a very confusing place, where anyone can just come in and add or change things in GL's universe and some people are actually paid to fill in the wholes so that all the stories come together. Your question is very valid. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to get a straight answer here. *Caugh*Fanboys*Caugh*. Stick to the first trilogy, Ep 4-5-6, the rest is just filler.
  15. The thing with PnP is that you can't save the game before dangerous confrontations... " <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Also, PnP, alone, is boring. Video gaming, alone, is not.
  16. Could be. If its the last season. Kirsten Kreuk is super busy.,,
  17. Maybe Revan could lead the Sith, training them and the player, and the Exile would do the same with the Jedi? The player would choose his/her master!
  18. What makes it good? What do you like about it? Caracters, action scenes, babes?
  19. I would like a full chapter in the game dedicated to the Jedi trials. Similar to K1 on Dantooine or in Jedi Outcast but... more. Solving puzzles : Real ones that require a basic knowledge of the Star Wars universe or at the very least the KOTOR expanded universe. Lightsaber construction : Crystals are supposed to be very rare so it should be a lot harder to get than just ''opening'' a crystal formation. And the actual building of the lightsaber should require some skills from the player, like maybe a series of DDR/Indigo Prophecy style of actions mixed with IQ type questions/answers like we've seen before in the KOTOR games. Sabers should also be fully customizable! Lightsaber handling : A mini tournament to determine the best swordsman of the Academy/Enclave with a wide range of stances and styles to choose from, a few force powers as well. At the end of the tournament, the way you fight determines your class Guardian/Sentinel/Consular. These trials should also require the PC to attain certain levels of expertise in order to proceed, with opportunities to acquire the experience needed to gain those levels or items that boost stats/skills. The trials would also determine your starting alignment. if you take the short and easy way out, like destroying the door with a grenade instead of looking around for the switch to open it would make you DS. Once a Jedi Knight, one would also have to prove her/himself before taking on a Padawan of his own.
  20. I thought it was because Vrook and/or Disciple would've recognized her and that would've ended the game...
  21. This show is so frakkin' good, it deserves it's own thread. What do you think of the show, what are you expecting in the coming episodes, what moved you the most so far, comparisons to the 1980 series, favorite characters, anything about it, post it here! I shed a tear when they removed the vale off the Blackbird in ''Flight of the Pheonix'' And I think Starbuck is pregnant with Baltar's child. Best show on television!!! Oh and yes, I searched before I threaded.
