So far so good. Im level 10 at the momemt and slaughting all comers on pod solo. You are constantly healing from FoD. Plus you are hitting a bunch of foes at once. On top of that, Whispers of the Endless paths when enchanted properly will counter-attack every time a foe misses you. On top of all that, because of the hig res and paladin abilities your defenses are nearly as high as a pure fighter using a shield. Plus on top of all that, you are gaining armor from frenzy, you can gain more from paladin auras. You could basically have the same armor as full plate while wearing light armor. Also inspired defense grants resitance to what ever damage is currently hitting you. So you are definetly tanky, but it is a "best defense is a good offense" kind of build.

Ahh good point. Didnt even realize there already was a class called that. Anyone with ideas on a new name feel free to share them. I only called it that because orginally i built it with a mage slayer and it played alot like the inquisitor paladins from baldurs gate As to your question about retribution, its on pod you will get mobbed and you kinda want to. Yeah it resets every attack, but not unusual for you to get hit 3-4 between strikes.

Build Name: The Brutish Knight(Fanatic) Classes: Berserker/Kind Wayfarer Descrition: This character is more geared for solo play as any party member that gets too close dies quickly. Roleplay-wise this is the guy that doesnt think much but believes strongly. Think a chaotic good paladin who is at war with his beserker nature. This guy is full to the brim with passion. This guy is basically a tanking barbarian in light armor. Author: Pharaun159 Difficulty: PoD Solo: Recommended Build: Build is pretty simple, and there is room for personalization. Geared greatsword use Stats Might 18-20 Con 8-10 Dex 10-12 Per 16-18 Int 6-10 Res 16-18 These are just rough ranges you should be within. Ideally you want to hit hard and accuratly, and not be hit yourself lol. Required talents: Barbarian Frenzy Bloodied Unflinching One stands alone Bloodlust Leap Paladin Flames of devotion Sworn rival Deep faith Two handed style (in either class) Retribution Divine calling (not sure if thats the right name. Going from memory. Its the one that makes you resist a bunch of afflictions) Naturally you are gonna wanna take talents that increase your engagement and resist debilitating effects Gear: light armor (the lizard skin armor at Delvers row is probably best) Great sword (whispers if the endless path is best. So save the crate and save $3k right away. You can get this pretty much as soon as you leave port majia) Gate crasher gauntlets are awesome(sold at queens berth smith) There is a winged helm for sale at the Crooksure slaver fort that takes 20% of action speed with two handers. There is a belt for sale in delvers row that grants -10% damage recieved that increases as you lose more health. This belt is pretty much a must have. It also gives a bonus to cobstitution AND gives you a second use if second wind. It will keep you alive. Rest is a matter of preference. The rest is pretty much up to you and your prefers style. Basically, you are gonna charge the weakest guys, sworn rival, frenzy, fod to prety much one hit kill. This will activate blo od lust. With winged helm and whispers, you should be hitting every 2-3 sec now. By now you are surrounded. Evey hit is cleaving all foes in front of you. One stands alone is now activated. Let the slaughter commence. Build update: So as someone pointed out, while confused from frenzy your FoD will heal enemies. So early levels of the build, you will start combat with frenzy and take out as many as you can. If you hear your character starting to suffer, then use second wind. Then keep fighting. After frenzy wears off, then its sworn enemy and Fod to survive the rest. Make sure you upgrade sworn enemy to sworn rival. This refunds the cost of sworn enemy each time you kill the target. So for long battles you may be reduced to one zeal point left at which point you will just spam it and refund it each time you kill. At level 10 you reach another power level. Here is where you can take the paladin talent that resists confuse and its no longer a problem. From hear on out its basically gear up and slaughter. Final build update: So build is a success. Finished the game. Pre ukaizu my stats are as follows Might- 25 Con-13 Dex-13 Per-22 In-10 Res-23 Defenses static vs buffed: Ar: 10-12 Penet: 11-13 Def:130-115 Fort:156-161 Ref:140-133 Will:139-139 Total enemies defeated: 1148 Total dam: 284,673.6 Highest single target damage:229.5 Crits: 1698 Damage taken:38,167 Best gear ended up being Helm of the falcon (20% hits to graz from ranged weapins, and -20% recovery on twohanded weapond) Protective eothasion charm (1 per, -75% dam when health below 25%) Gipon prudensco (light armor. +25 def vs disengagement, being hit grants stacking +2 defl and +4 ref till combat ends to a max +20defl and +40 ref, immunity to flanking, grants bravado (fit and steadfast ispirations for 30 sec at combat start)) Ring of the solitary wanderer (+1 res, -30% neg effects when alone) Chameleons touch (+1 to an attribut and skill based on class... So +1 con +1 might + diplomacy) Used - Ibris (+4 burn armor, +10 all def against fire attacks) in fight with ancient. Boots of stone (+1 dex, +2 res, resistance to might afflictions) Greater cloak of defl (defl +7) Gatecrashers (+2 might, 50% chance to knockdown on critical hit) Undying burden (+1 athletics, second wind, incoming dam reduced to a max of 30% depending on health, +2 con) Used figurines on a few fights. Toughest area was splintered reef. Vamps kept charming. Learned not to use frenzy against them since it lowers your int and makes you vulnerable to charm. Hardest fight of all was Fampyr's crypt. Rest was a cake walk after level 10. Which you hit only 1/3 of the way into the game.

Helm is sold by the beach merchant at the slavers fort. Forget the name of the fort. Begins with an "S".

Gotta say. Sword is a bit underwelming on pod. I think it might be a great weapon for non barbarians early on.. But the lesser penetration means even though you are hitting a bunch if guys.. Its not doing much more then a one handed sword would do... Assuming it punches through at all. Id say it might be a worthy solo barbarian blade though. Berserker/bleakwalker. Yould level faster, and tank well enough to tolerate the slower damage

Whats the best greatsword so far? Im running a baldurs gate iquisitor style...Fanatic. Mageslayer/kind wayfarer. So far... Its awesome... Just wondering if i missed any good swords. I already beat and am running through again on pod. I tank almost as well as eder and dish out a ton of freaking damage. Two handed+ savage strikes+ retribution+bloodied+ one stands alone= awesomeness

Ive liked soulbound weapons since they released, but mostly for the associated lore. Felt like a meaningfull find, though other weapons were often mathmatically better. Im just bummed that there are not any that fit how i like to play. I want to see either a soul bound greatsword for barbarians or a soul bound armor of some kind. Im playing a Fanatic (mage slayer barbarian/kind wayfarer). It freaking OWNS! Think barbarian with defense. Its brutal. Im breezing through pod. Would have liked to see some kind of dark carnage dealing weapon that battles your will to keep from going berserk.
-
Im currently testing a fanatic mage slayer/kindway farer on pod. Its a power house similar in playstyle to the old baldurs gate inquisitor. Rage, then sworn, then fod. Im one hit killing at level 4 with two handed. Take the barbarian bloodied passive that grants +25% dam while bloodied, and the paladin version of it as well. Two handed style gives +15% dam and greatsword sub ability savage blows gives another 30%. Its brutal. You will litterally one hit kill most casters. Just wish there was a soulbound great sword in the game. If there is, i havnt found it yet

That statement doesn't instill confidence at all. It's just another way of saying "expect the same terrible performance". This was the same impression i got. The only time ive got the first game to run perfect was on a 16thread cpu and a 1080ti. I never even knew about people having performance issues untill now. Im running a 12 thread ryzen cpu and a 1060. Im getting 25 fps in white march regardless of settings. 1080p lowest settings or max settings at 4k... 25ps... combat lowers that to freaking single digits. What the hell?!

I have an r5 1600 (3.9ghz 6 core 12 threads) asus strix rog b350 mobo 16gb gskill trident rgb ram (3200mhz) GTX 1060 Game drive: 2x pny 480gb RAID 0 I can not get the fps to even change. Im in the town of stalwart. Im sitting at 25fps. Graphics slider at lowest settings, no vsinc, 1080p x 60hx. If i change the settings to max graphics, no vsinc, 3840x2160 res 60hz... i still get 25 fps.. just with better graphics... What is causing this? I had a 1080ti before and sold it. I just didnt need that much gpu. Rarely even put a load on that thing. The 1060 is only getting used 35%. CPU is using 8threads. Why is performance so damn bad? The lowest fps is always with the white march dlc. Main game runs in the 50s usually.

Having similar issues. I was locked at 60 fps with 1080ti and r7 1700x. I recentlt downgraded to a 1060 6gb (money issues) and an r5 1600. Thats still a decent gpu and 12 threads clocked at 3.9ghz is alot. However im getting 35fps at 4k and dips in combat to single digits. At 1080p res i only gain 3fps thus why i left it at 4k. Cpu usage has hit an impressive 60% (alot for a game) but gpu usage has never been higher then 30%. It doesnt seem to actually be using the system much.

Thats what i gathered... Didnt know about the abjuration thing. I am a little bummed though. I put corrosive lash on tidefall instead of flame lash. Not a bad choice per say, but scion of flames fits so well with paladin that im bummed i didnt stick with the plan. I havent got durgan steel yet, but im excited to see how well tidefall does with 16 dex and fast recovery. Wish like hell they let paladins get armored grace. Looking forward to making a Paladin/fighter in deadfire.

I know this post is old, but gotta say with white march 2 and deadfire pack, dps/tank hybrid paladin is the shizznazz. Get Royal deadfire belt (+3str, +3 dex, +2 int PLUS 3 FREAKING CASTS OF FIREBRAND!), and late game get ryona's breastplate (triumph of the crusade as soon as endurance drops below 50% once per encounter)... Jesus. I go kind wayfarer human str 18 (21 belt) con 8 (10 gear) dex 13 (16 belt) per 16 (18 gear) int 8 (10 belt) res 16 (20 gauntlets) basically wade in. when **** hits the fan, crusade procs. Toss firebrand out. FoD and heal with each kill. Mean while 15% chance to proc vigorous def everytime i get hit or crit. By the end of the game My 2handed paladin had higher defenses then eder in all except deflection... and eder was using sword and board style. only thing im undecided on is tidefall vs redeemer. Divine mark and additional revival and destroy vessel, vs bleed and endurance regen and enchantability.
-
I whole heartedly disagree. One of the first things i noticed in pillars, was the lack of lore behind weapons. In the early days of pillers even "unique" weapons were not all that exciting. Soulbound items have waaaaaay more lore and story behind each, and as unlocking parts reveals more lore each... Id say they are much more rewards. By end game you can enchant some of the unique weapons past soulbounds, but the trade off is the soulbounds have more abilities tied to them. Try a twohanded paladin with the deadfire belt (+3 str +3 dex +2 int 3x firebrand and pillar of flames) and use st ywydwins redeemer ( exceptional, ressurection abilties, pillar of faith... Stuff that only enhances paladins further)... And you walk around kicking ass and taking names.

Here's how i did a 2hand build. Paladin shield varient Human Str 17 Con 10 Dex 13 Per 16 Int 8 Res 14 Gonna want FoD and late game lay on hands. Def pick up 2 handed style, soldier, bloody slaughter, savage attack. As for abilities... Cultivate your faith and co viction. That is your bread and butter. At level 15 all my def are higher then eder except deflection and thats by 13pts. Hes using a shield. Other good ones are reviving exhortation, inspiring triumph, and behold the martyr. I use zealous focus. Despite the low int the range is good enough for your front line. Now the first gear you gonna wanna get is the belt of royal deadfire. Soulbound its awesome fully upgraded. That gives you 3 casts if firebrand, flame shield on critical hit, torrent of flame with a massive aoe AND gives you 3 might 3 dex and 2 int. So one item puts your stats at: Str 20 Con 10 Dex 16 Per 16 Int 10 Res 14 Eventually seigebreaker guantlets get your res to 18 Now know this... This build is more of an iconic paladin. Eder is your tank. You are main damager for first half of game. However you are tanky too. Also you dont get charmed/ dominated/ and hardly ever knocked down. You are mr reliable. If everybody else is down, you are the guy still standing that snatches victory from defeat. All your gear is gonna be dedicated to boosting that aspect. I just killed adra dragon. Whole party was down and dragon was down to 1 pip. I used reviveing exhortation on durance, who used revive the fallen on aloth. Aloth hit dragon with darkfire and paralyzed it. Durance hit me with champions boon, and i dealt the deathblow to that bastard. Was so awesome! My paladin isnt the best minmaxed damage dealer, and while he is for first half of game he will get outclassed by aloth and a cypher with stormcaller late game. However this build will always be your lucky charm. He almost always lands the deathblows on the big ticket items. Saves the day. Super fun to play. I was torn between max enchanted tidefall and st ydwins redeemer for main weapon. Tidefall with durgan steel the better weapon, but redeemer just has too many good abilities that help yours. Plus you fight vessels alot in this game and the destroy vessel ability on it really comes in handy. Armor is white crest. If this sword and shield build id use ryonas breastplate, but its not. So white crest with durgan steel, corrosion proof, +1 perception, and enchant the quality a you go. Helm is tempered helm... +25 def to hobbled, stuck, paralyzed, charm, confused, +10 def to dominated, +3 might on kill... Yes please. Then boots of stability. Rest is matter of preference. Most fun build ive played. At level 15 with gear, talents, and resting bonus. Stats are Str 23 Con 10 Dex 16 Per 18 Int 11 Res 19 Def 100, fort 116, ref 122, will 116 Acc 98 (unless savage attack on) Interupt 21 (might grab a perk for that) Concentration 102

Has anyone done a successful heavy melee cipher and succeded? Im currently working on one right now that i started out as more of a roleplay then a "build", but its going surprisingly well. Currently at level 6. I wanted to embrace the character backrounds a bit. Human cipher from the mountains. Never fit in because ciphers are mistrusted and he hid his powers for a long time. To this day hes nervouse about using them. Anyway, he joined a mercenary company known as "The Deadmen", and quickly rose to captian of the company "Pitted shield" (a nod to their tactic of using tower shields to soak up trap damage when clearing structures on campeign,). He befriended an orlan cipher who helped develop his abilities. After a long career he was tired of watching men die for gold, and left to take up Roderick's offer. That being said. Build that followed was this. Might 16 Con 10 Dex 10 Per 18 Int 14 Res 10 (might swap some might and int for res in a pod run) Anyhow fights with large shield and spear. Scale armor. Fights as rear guard for casters and line support. Still squishy, but has very high deflection (60 with gear right now) plus accuracy is 59 (with gear) interupt is 27. He basically picks off priests and archers when he can. He hits constantly. If party starts to get overwhelmed, he will stray frim combat, flank and cast that blugoning beam and watcg them all die. If he gets overwelmed he will survive long enough to recieve aid. He doesnt build focus as fast, but the super high interupt tends to stunlock alot of enemies. Using the Rizzeri's spear. +damage when under 50% endurance, and +25% crush damage. Talents thus far Weapon and shield Peasent focus (spear and hunting bow for soul bound bow) Biting whip Next im debating on interupting blows or bloody slaughter. Thoughts?
