I've got to disagree with Boroer here and agree with Kaylon. The chanter deals damage to slowly compared to a barbarian. Dragon thrashed is really awesome when you get it at level 9 and go up against high dr targets, a barb will look lost then. But as soon as you get to crit frequently the dps of the barb will be much higher. Let's not forget, that stacking takes time, too and before stacking dragon trash does not ignore armor. Before the chanters insane dps kicks in, at high level many fights will be over. As said before that's different at lower levels on 9 to say 12 the chanter is the king of the castle.

Well everybody except rogue and fighter have "caster" damage output. The cipher and chanter probably have highest overall output and the chanter isn't even really a caster. Paladin with SA is crazy too and not at all a caster, sure you need level 13, but let's be honest you can avoid any harder fights till then by just doing quests and some of the bounties.

It's not that I never rest, I just don't like having to rest for my abilities. I use chanter heal for all, on harder fights moonwell scrolls, potions for end reg but also a lot of vital essence potions (during the Brynlod bounty GM used 4 of those, lol.) No I don't like and use a a priest, I had Durance in my first party ever when PoE comes out, maybe that's the reason I dislike them, *wink*. Prayer against I only use fear for dragons or the deathguards in Crägholdt, I don't need the others, since my paladin's defense is so absurdly high and if one of my companions gets charmed Sacred Immolation instantly reverses that since I have Aegis. (Mindweb sadfly only confers my will defense, which is quite low around 140 but the extra def the pala has against charm and the likes is made up by Aegis, righteous soul and that belt from WM2 which gives +20 to almost anything) The same way I admit that a wizard is very strong I know goes for the priest, too. But let's be real why need a more powerful party if everything is already a breeze? Having to reload once because I misjudged an encounter is not a proble for me and it happens rarely enough. If I used damage shield chant instead of dragon trash I probably would never need to reload but fights also would take slightly longer. My main weak point is at combat start when GM needs to build 80 focus, but since I got twin sting it's gotten a lot easier since I have 2 chances to get it without having to melee. Once I go mindweb the encounter where I had to reload hasn't happened yet. Let's keep in mind this is only 3 chars in the party, if I had my dream composition of 2 chanters and ciphers and a barbarian + my pala I'd still be as rest independent and unstoppable.

Even though wizard is powerful it's just quite tedious. Ofc I can't compare myself to others, but I've learned the less effort I have to put into doing damage, the more damage I will do. That's why cipher and chanter are so good for me personally. And that's why I never use items like ring of searing flames, it's per rest and I have to remember to use it.

Hm, wanted to try solo barb for some time, you think soloing Bog dragons would work with a barb?

Chanter gets the Dragon Thrashed at lvl 9. Sacred Immolation comes at lvl 13. Not really the same time (if it's those abilites that you're talking about). Yea, on level 9 the chanter is just way stronger than any other class, especially if you actually upscale WM and Act 3 and go there with level 9 which is asap as it can be upscaled. Chanter with high enough In to stack dragon chant just burns thru high dr targets as if they were made of butter, Only weapons to ignore DR at that point are Tidefall and Persitance, but using them on single target has much less effect than the chants AoE.

I found the story more interesting than PoE even in BG 1. Iron Trone, Assassins, a murdered foster father think it was well done, but ofc 2 was a lot better. The plot in Candlekeep, you going to jail, then being arrested again in Baldur's Gate itself, it was all pretty awesome. As you said Durlags was very well done, too and so was werewolf island. Last chapter was slightly rushed but still alright. Well I can only repeat what others said it might sadly be this game is not for you. People like me wished for a game exactly like this, isometric graphics and all. There's not many games I prefer to BG one of them was Jade Empire. Awesome story and the choices you could make were so many and interesting.

As to the cipher, I find him less difficult as soon as you understand what each power does and how much focus your likely to gain per second. Sure you've got to put some work in, but that's true for almost every game. As to Skyrim: I didn't find the beginning to well handled, since you don't know a reason why you got caught or anything about your char, you just discover at some point you are "dragonborn", but apart from that you never learn anything about yourself. It's quite similar in PoE. I personally much preferred the Baldur's Gate story. Slack83er, did you play BG? You might find it more interesting, but because the game has similar combat you might feel drawn back to PoE after.
