  1. Who is watching the Watcher? Based on my experience I'd definitely go with lower MIG, maybe 10? Bonuses to damage Rogue has access to are quite substantial, in comparison to bonus from MIG, as debated in another recent thread about Rogues. INT 4 is also go.
  2. The first commentary in the game states: .. its about choice and consequence. Not balance. Not perfect combat system (whatever that means). In my understating, brining gun to knife fight, then calling it cheese, for example, is choice with consequence.
  3. btw is there reason not to have "attack speed" noted in game in the same fashion other mechanics are? That would end most of these debates while providing essential info to player.
  4. If you worry not about mix/maxing, I call it playing for strengths avoiding weaknesses, you can set RES, PER, INT at 15, redistribute rest as you see fit according to you style and class. That is all you need to know in my opinion. The game is easy enough.
  5. I had that in mind but there is a way around it. Enchanting armor which is cheap and maybe overlooked. No Dwarves no Orlans leaves limited options.
  6. http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Character_creation All conversation checks? Not sure, someone will probably know, but it will roughly mean high RES, PER and INT. High means like 15-20. Mind food and items and other (sleep-in) bonuses when on creation screen. http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Attribute#Dialog edit: as for specific character, well, it could be rogue. Low MIG Rogue say Death Godlike.
  7. This is not true. On PotD at least you're facing massive mobs all the bleepin' time. If your barb is front and center, with a high INT he will be making a lot of Carnage attacks. PotD differs in number of enemies and DR. Therefore those able to do AoE damage should be in advantage. To Wiz, for example, it matters not if its 3 or 10, as long as not all are hitting. AoE kills 3 or 10 the same.
  8. Better some traffic than none I tend to agree that small shield is neat for rogue. Seems builds end up with Sabres anyway so damage is fine.
  9. I played BG2 for almost 1.5 year before finishing it. By then I knew the game so well - tried every party and class, many builds and approaches to encounters - by then I came to understand that game offers tools and its up to me how I use them. Irenicus went down on first try. By the wolf? form. Ranger/Cleric OP, Figher/Thief OP, Sorcerer OP, well anyone with CromFayer, Fail of Ages, Staff of Magi (invisibility on equip!), Ring of Power etc OP .. played Druid not to be OP and it had Insect Swarm OP. Mordy swords OP! love them Its time management issue. Killing Firgkraag for the X time gets old and who does not want to be powerful? That is part of the game.
  10. Inspired by this and other Monk threads, I started .. Monk too. 18 18 20 15 3 3, Moon to take advantage of health/endurance pool to stack wounds. Walk out first dungeon, beat wolves to pulp first try, bears without figurine level later. Did not take Swift Strikes but Torment and Turning Wheel for now. Seems easier than Wiz. With items/armors and food to fit encounter its almost unbeatable despite low Will. When they Charm me, they stop attacking me. Fortitude and Reflex is excellent though. Two Weapon Style, Peasant, Vulnerable Attack. Long Stride. I do not spam Torment but build wounds first, position, figurines, abilities from items, etc.
  11. Good job on the dragon. Perhaps one of my favourite topics so let me elaborate too. Firkraag, and well, any dragon except one?.. Lower Resistance 3x, loaded in Sequencer for instant cast -> Mag Resistance 0% .. Greater Malison -> bye saving throws .. Ray of Enfeeblement -> stay put .. now anything .. beat it with staff, polymorph to squirrel or bombard it with magic missiles or chromatic orb. Or even out of combat Feeblemind -> dragon just stands there. That is without Time Stop and other fancy stuff. Fire Shield Red? Whatever ... The toughest fight in the game Kangaxx? http://www.baldurdash.org/kangaxx.html Its a single player game. I see it as puzzle. btw this game is not much different except that now there is a balance God on a quest to become Sisyphus or something
  12. I have said it before, but to me constant balancing does not make the game any more enjoyable. I would guess most people played the game already and will not ever see them anyway so in this sense its pointless. Unless they try to balance game mechanics for future use, future project. For current use, I'd say its waste of time and money. The point is not to have 'perfect game' but game people play. As for vitriol on the forum. Yes nobody likes vitriol at the same time its kinda their job to be able to handle it and its lazy excuse for not participating.
  13. Damn it, well, if I have to I will need to respec later, which I would prefer to avoid when it comes to Attributes. Either build is legit, to finish the adventure with, or not. With some luck (reload). This build is 2 MIG with high DEX, PER and RES so there is no room and INT 10 hmm If prone is the only problem, there are items I think and well maybe it would need to be stun-locked or something. So far, enemies who attack Fortitude, like those damn kobold skirmishers or Darguls I do not engage 1on1 Thanks for head up.
  14. Solo it might be a problem, because Thaos. Why do you reckon? Seriously, as my only experience with rogue was the pacifist run long ago. Then I used the known approach of splitting, waiting and setting trap. Is there Fortitude check? But indeed, rogue with "invisibility" can breeze through the game as there is no grinding but questing here. With Wiz, as much as I like them, after certain level I just walk in and kill everything. With rouge more subtle approach is required, more planning (like using traps effectively)
  15. Trying 2 MIG rogue, Orlan, solo and so far so good. Just hit DB level 4-5. 2 8 19 20 10 19 and Fine Estoc from Kana. Not sure what I am gonna do about low Fortitude but I guess either avoid fights where its needed or fiddle it somehow.
  16. Oh thanks for the correction. It is then matter of recovery vs casting speed. I run my solo Wiz around with clothing, switching to appropriate armor when needed but past level 6 or so its not needed much.
  17. DEX is basically casting speed, while PER accuracy or chance to hit. I leave defenses alone as that kinda evens out either way. Casting speed can be modified so can be accuracy. Casting speed is influenced by armor and protection influences HP. It is feasible to keep kind of glass cannon more or less alive or better be safe than sorry etc On PotD as you know to hit is important and on Trial of Iron to survive. Personally, I go for PER, leave DEX at 10 or something, and micro a lot to use positioning, environment, buffs, party, and other means to keep Wiz alive. Or you may find that even in heavier armor speed is fine, or buffed, and lets give AI other punching bag. Then you could even melee.
  18. Dont worry about it, it did not. Your posts are most insightful. Part of D&D role playing was alignment, which for me was perhaps most important characteristics. Stats are ... just numbers to be .. crunched.
  19. It depends, on your play style, how much management you want to invest during fights, equipment (armor) or how you utilize other party members. I do not have any particular build in mind, but you cant go wrong with CC/damage Wizard, classic. INT, PER and MIG, the Vale talents for high Deflection when needed, extra spell talents, maybe deep pockets, maybe elemental damage talents. I do not think you can really mess up with Wizard the way spells are learned and with possible respec. Wizard is .. versatile. No it does not matter what weapon/shield you have equipped when you summon weapon.
  20. Indeed, I just started Wiz abandoning Cipher for this very reason. Woodelf though so not much melee in long run. How many parts you got? I got up to 4.
  21. Its a good game From role-playing perspective, maybe making "not intelligent" choices could serve better than Attributes. Just like in the so-called real life. There are people with high (Mensa) IQ without really having anything to show for.
  22. I was not implying your ignorance, rather pointing out the obvious. It was funny and it made sense, from role-playing perspective, despite sticking to certain stereotypes (fighter is strong but not clever and mage is clever but not strong).
  23. D&D mechanics are different. Here we have MIG, for example, as source of power be it for fighter or wizard. Its fine with me but there been debates how this is "not right" from role-playing perspective.
  24. I watched some of it and despite things changed (with patches) .. Wizards have healing: CC Siphon, which in turn may have influence over MIG/CON distribution. Moon is decent, if now OP, still for "melee", getting hit a lot, other traits could be taken into consideration like defense to Prone and/or Stun as those are killers for solo character. Also in my runs with Wizard I found out that its more effective just to cast spells from distance than try to buff myself then engage in melee, this is also due to lack of pre-buffs. And as for INT, its good, for AoE and duration, however, for melee I am not sure I'd go max as the trade off is huge.
