The ads I've seen were fantastic in the way of getting me curious about it, though.

2010 FIFA World Cup
I swear, if Spain wins I'm having Calamari. That was a fantastic match, though, especially on the part of Forlan. That man is an excellent player.

2010 FIFA World Cup
That's because unlike all other videos, in this one one side was placed right in front of his face. Tampering, and for attempting to set fate like that the punishment is a loss. This is also the first one Paul did without Germany. So, no precedent to see if he's right on this.

2010 FIFA World Cup
I'm getting an anti-Holland impression from this thread. Netherlands so far are completely undefeated in this tournament, don't write us off so quickly. Actually, I missed the match between Spain and Germany (graduation ceremony took place at the same time), can anyone give me a quick rundown?

2010 FIFA World Cup
What? He was? I must have missed that. Anyways that referee did try his best to let Uruquay score 3-3... Yeah, those last few minutes smelt a bit of paid-off-ref, but then I remembered he was an incompetent twit throughout the match to both teams' disadvantages.

You're lucky he was at least watching the same game. The dutch commentator was just talking out of his arse mostly, said lots of things that didn't even happen.

2010 FIFA World Cup
Extremely entertaining match that played out pretty fairly not because but despite of the ref, which is one of the worst I've ever seen. Still, good match, and GO HOLLAND! Can anyone tell me what happened in those last few minutes, though? It was complete uncontrollable chaos. The arbiter team was scarily incompetent. And Germany better win, Holland needs to beat them in a rematch for 1974. Nobody cares about Spain.

Well, that kind of makes sense, because that's where Book 1: Water ended. Still, too bad.

There were also less good moments. Actually, I thought that bit was pretty funny.

Yahtzee reviews
Has anybody read his book, Mogworld? Is it any good? It doesn't seem to be available to me here in the Netherlands because I don't have a credit card.

Yeah, the reviews I've read have been horrible. It's got, like, a 10% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That's one of the lowest I've ever seen. And even the positive reviews go like "it's slightly entertaining despite it's many shortcomings". It's weird to see how M Night has self destructed, although I have to admit I never liked The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable was fantastic and Signs had it's moments of brilliance.

Yes, Wals obviously did a lot to romanticize the British Empire. I like how the only way you can debunk someone is by putting words in their mouth first. None if you agree with the statement. Even when you agree with him LoF is still pointless.

The funny things thread
Ah, that worked! Thanks. I didn't realize Naruto was still going on. I don't even recognize that character. I expect this is a climactic battle sequence, or something? Anime shows really don't get the budget's they deserve considering the size of their audience, and climactic battle sequences often end up looking pretty odd. I remember the fight sequence between Naruto and Sasuke at the Valley of the End had some pretty ridiculous animation, my favorite part of which was Naruto jumping towards his opponent and being animated as a simple shape of a bullet with a few color splashes. All in all, I'm still pretty glad I stopped following that show. Does it ever lead anywhere? It just feels like so much random, unconnected plot threads and fight scenes.

Has anyone seen The Last Airbender? I'm a big fan of the show (it's a family friendly affair that still manages to be really epic and smart most of the time and occasionally reaches heights that no one but Miyazaki himself can climb to), but the reviews do not fill me with confidence.

I'm sorry, but making a foul IS cheating. That's why it's punished. That's why it's called a foul. You make a foul, you cheated, you get punished. End of story. What I'm saying it that the rules should be tightened to prevent people from purposefully cheating for a tactical advantage. Apparently the old garde of dutch supporters are terrified of this because of the last time.

2010 FIFA World Cup
I dunno about the NHL thing because I've never watched Hockey, but for the basketball: Same thing. It's not within the rules of the game. It's the same as exploiting a glitch in a competitive video game. It's cheating, plain and simple. Just because it's been allowed and/or tolerated doesn't mean it's right. Germany winning again.

It shouldn't be legitimate risk. There are rules AGAINST it for a reason. It should deter players from doing it.

2010 FIFA World Cup
He may be right on what happened, he definitely isn't right on whether or not it was a good thing. "Clever and courageous" is what he said, and that just isn't true. It was an underhanded tactic that has no place in a civilized sport. As for Gyan failing the penalty, he shouldn't have been put into this situation in the first place. If anything, it goes to show how ineffective the rules are and that they need to be tightened because they allow for these kinds of things to happen. Deliberately making a foul to prevent a goal is simply cheating, no way around it, but if the consequences just aren't harsh enough to properly deter players from doing it, it just goes to show that something is wrong with the game.
