  1. FORCOM has it wrong, it's a SATA II HD. Here's the official product site where it's listed as SATA 3Gb/s: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=576
  2. Cryengine is not an engine with poor performance. It only gets that bad rap because Crysis made computers cry with all the polygons, textures, and other calculations that it was pushing -- much more than any other game. Though, Cryengine most likely wouldn't lend itself to games like NWN very well anyway so I doubt it would even be in the running.
  3. PCIe 2.0 cards should be backwards compatible with older motherboards that only have PCIe 1.x
  4. Are you sure the HD you're looking at is really SATA III because SATA II is often referred to as SATA 3.0Gb/s, SATA 3Gb/s or SATA 300. SATA III, which will be marketed as SATA 6Gb/s, has a higher possible bandwidth (6Gb/s) over SATA II (3Gb/s). However, if you aren't using a good SSD then you aren't even using all the bandwidth that SATA II has to offer. SATA III devices should be compatible with motherboards that have SATA II controllers -- I would get confirmation from the manufacturer or the product website before hand though.
  5. Wow, I cant believe they're going with an AO rating. Nice catch. It's not rated AO though, it's rated M in ESRB land. Either Ativision mispoke or they were thinking about rating systems outside the U.S.
  6. Activisions statements on the matter: http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/10/28/atv...-warfare-2-flap
  7. Runic Games already had a lot of experience in developing a Diablo styled game considering they are essentially comprised of the team that was working on Mythos before Flagship Studios went under, including some Diablo veterans.
  8. That is quite possibly the stupidest idea ever. You're not going to cool chips with a desk fan. Actually if there is poor airflow through the case then opening it up and using a desk fan can cool it quite a bit. Since overheating doesn't seem to be the problem though it would be kind of pointless. I hope the new one works out for you Lucian.
  9. It was not an OMG factor for me. It was a WTH (What the Heck?) factor - as in an expression of surprise regarding a magazine featuring electronic characters. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I think it's enough of a first (at least that I am aware of) to justify a WTH! I think Playboy has featured video game characters before and their latest issue features Marge Simpson apparently. According to them it's about trying to attract the ~20 age group to their magazine. I wouldn't be surprised if Maxim is trying to appeal to the same audience as well -- they do have a gaming section on their website after all. Anywyay ... I'm looking forward to playing the game
  10. If Apple really pushed for it they could probably have the next console on the market. Their computers are essentially closed systems already which would make it easier for developers to test on. Game requirements would only need to list the Apple computer and OS required to play it and not any specific details, such as amount of RAM required and CPU speed, which can often confuse customers. Not to mention they already have a digital distribution system in place with the IPhone.. I don't think game publishers for AAA games will necessarily get interested in Apple Computers on their own though, simply because of the low install base. I think Apple needs to invest in getting publishers interested first, take them out to dinner, toss a little money their way, promise to help advertise their games, throw the egg out there so the chicken can hatch. Unfortunately Linux can be fairly scary for folks -- it also doesn't have the advantage of being on a much more closed system like a Mac. In fact it has the problem (in this case) of being too open. As for Google Chrome OS, it will be aimed primarily at internet and web applications use so I don't think AAA games will really ever be targeted for it.
  11. I created my mage and wow.. they are very powerful. At level 14 with maxed Magic Bullet my character was able to take out an Ash Beast with little difficulty. The only problem with mages is the large amount of mana used but considering their damage output it's not much of a downside. I think staves received the least amount of love of all the weapon types followed closely by bows. They're both pretty much outclassed in every way by the other weapon types
  12. After coming from Batman: AA it took me a little while to get used to the lack of polish in this game but it's still fairly decent all things considered. I've played up through some of Act3 and then I got bored of my hammer wielding fighter character and didn't like that the sword weapons got all the love. The melee combat is just.. well, I don't like it very much. I think it's the annoying auto-lock on system that bugs me the most. I'll try a mage next and depending on how that goes I might try to make a bow using hunter that doesn't melee at all. There are ogres -- they like to fondle your character with their big clubs. It's possible to go through the swamp quests without investing any learning points. The fights are definitely more difficult and tedious as they last quite a bit longer but I've managed to do it twice now on normal difficulty. The most difficult fights are the ones in the arena -- I only remember three quests that specifically required killing monsters and none of them were too difficult. Even when faced with tough monsters it was never much of a run to lead them back to a group of friendly NPCs that would help kill them.
  13. In the beginning of the episode was the nerd character playing the upcoming Stargate MMO? I know they called the game by a different name but it would have been awfully convenient to slip it in Anyway, I liked chubby Jack O'Neill.
  14. There's always the ominous "soon" which tends to placate people unless it turns out to not be so soon. Perhaps a time window around their best guess would work better e.g. "first half of 2010." If they absolutely have no guess as to when it might be released then that makes me a little afraid. To not be able to make any press release such as "Due to [insert non-technical fluffy vague or made-up reason here] AP will miss it's intended October 6th release date. Stay tuned for new release date information soon" seems strange to me. The delay really doesn't bug me as I didn't pre-order it and I know it'll be coming eventually. It's definitely no DNF.
  15. I thought it was a humorous post
  16. I think 'indefinitely' would be the wrong word to use. It tends to conjure up the idea of never. I do think it would be better than stating it will be released on the 6th (from SEGA's website). As it is now it'll just confuse potential purchasers who visit SEGA's site for information.
  17. If you want strict definitions I suppose it would fall under the purview of marketing instead of customer support for potential customers. As for pre-orders, there's a good reason they are pushed and marketed by publishers. Retailers use pre-order data to determine how many copies to purchase. Poor pre-orders also means the game wont get as much shelf space or retailer advertising. @Grunker I see your point about the possible release date conundrums. I can only really argue about how I feel about the silence since I don't have any studies to back me up. I actually like Blizzards strategy about release dates. I also like that despite how tight lipped they are on that aspect they're (currently) very open on the development of their games.
  18. Nvidia's next GPU 'Fermi' will have 3 billion transistors, 40% more than the Radeon 5870. This likely means that it will be that much more expensive For a decent preview article: http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3651
  19. It doesn't have anything to do with 'emotions' or 'ethics' of companies, it has to do with customer support which is a large part of business. Disseminating appropriate information to the public and keeping customers and potential customers happy is part of customer support. Sega, for whatever reason(s), either doesn't think the release date information is appropriate to release at this time, which to me feels like it's a disservice to fans, or they just aren't very good at this aspect of customer support. After the lack of updates on their own websites, which shows poor internal communication, and what happened previously with the silence around the Aliens RPG game I'm hedging my bets on the latter.
  20. She's becoming more like Alpha, remembering stuff even after being wiped, the staff didn't get it and blamed it on Topher. At least that's how I understood it. The problem is that Topher claimed she was wiped except for her "instinct" to the point she probably wouldn't even be able to remember the baby's name. Yet she got to the house just fine and knew a lot more than a wiped doll (young child) is supposed to know. That she did retain more memories then Topher claimed.. and after all the instances it has happened in the past it should be a great big warning light to everyone involved. Then again maybe the boss lady does know and wants it to happen
  21. Why is Dollhouse security always so lax?.. bleh.. and for being wiped she sure remembered a lot
  22. Not being able to find a publisher for the Witcher 2 probably forced them into this. That and the shenanigans surrounding the failed console port. I thought their first game did well enough that getting a publisher for the second one wouldn't be such a difficult task
  23. It looks like it was an automagic English -> Latin translation of "where none can follow." From using InterTran it results in "qua nullus can insisto." http://latinforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&p=38032 *conspiracy theories anyone?*
  24. For me, my complaint isn't about Subject Zero's personality it's about her visual design. It comes off as confusing and unappealing. With the tattoo patchwork she has no distinct outline and is hard to follow. Not to mention those little leather straps .. gah .. it's worse than the usual fantasy trope. Hopefully she'll be able to equip some armor to cover herself up.
  25. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1244727 Sadly the ID tech 5 engine most likely wont be getting a Linux port MacOS X is still getting a port of it though -- probably because macs are more standardized in hardware and software/drivers.
