System Shock 2 Or another classic RPG
-
PCZone just did an article on the best co-op games, SWAT was definitely one of the front-runners. I'll type in the rest when I can be bothered. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/swat4/index.html?q=swat

Shocking News! Daikatana dude leaves Midway!
Jumjalum replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
I was thinking the same thing. -
Did you ever play the old spectrum game Chaos? Sounds pretty similar to what a game of that would be like.
-
The main bonus about reviving someone from the dead is that if you don't your team loses a ticket since every respawn costs 1 ticket. When your team runs out of tickets you lose the game.
-
Yeah I hate snipers too, its good that they dont have insta-kill powers in BF2 in fact a lot of people are complaining that they aren't good enough.
-
The 'immortal stormtrooper' thing sounds boring. I guess you'd have to find a squad that was interested in role-playing it, or wait for a game that was more realistic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont have a lot of experience with the original BF but in BF2 medics aren't exactly immortal. They are probably a little overpowered in that they heal everyone around them (but it takes time to do so), and can switch to a decent weapon and grenades. If someone has you pinpointed though you arent going to last long as medics have no armour.
-
You know you can play online with the demo? SP only gives you a very small map and no aircraft. You can play any class in SP, the bodies only lie on the map for around 10 seconds or so before they respawn so you have to be fairly quick. The medic bots are generally pretty good at reviving people in SP so you'll have some competition.

For once we agree on something. I suck at FPS games, so it's no fun joining an online server where everyone is an expert and kills me within a few seconds of joining the game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you arent good at killing people, play as a medic and join a squad. You can let everyone else do the killing while you keep low and occasionally run out and revive fallen comrades with your shock paddles. Medics are probably the easiest class to rack up points in - I wasn't even playing particularly well in my last game and I was third on the leaderboard. And I'm very far from being a FPS pro. I did wonder if that was the same digital illusions, me and my entire flat were completely addicted to pinball fantasies when I was at uni. I have a lot of fond memories of that series of games

So Battlefield 2 is out and I'm surprised there's not more talk of it on the forums I frequent. I never played the original aside from the demo due to my lousy connection but now I've got broadband baby and its a good thing since I'm having a great time with BF2. CS was my online shooter of choice but I dont think I'll be going back for a while because I cant drive tanks around in CS or shoot huge gatling guns out the side of a chopper while the pilot frantically tries to dodge AA missiles. It's a really cool feeling to see planes and choppers weave through the air overhead while you attempt to break an enemy position on foot with backup from tanks and APCs. I've certainly never played a game like it, UT2004 is probably its closest relation since I understand it has a lot of vehicles also but then I've never played UT2004 (I'm way behind on FPSs). The sound effects are outstanding for making you feel like part of the world, probably among the best sound I've heard in a game. The graphics are good as well, a nice balance between looks and performance, although the trees look pretty terrible compared to everything else. No gripes about the gameplay so far, theres a new squad system that works really well with your squad leader serving as a mobile spawn point so you can reinforce behind enemy lines. And there's a new commander system with one member of the team looking on the action from a top down RTS view who can give squads orders and target artillery strikes, UAV sweeps and supply crates. Theres a lot of depth to the game so hopefully it will stand up to some rigorous playing.

What music are you listening to right now?
Jumjalum replied to draakh_kimera's topic in Way Off-Topic
I just listened to a bootleg CD of Radiohead live. -
It's just been released! Has anyone played it yet? I'm downloading it right now but its a hefty one at 600MB.
-
I like Derren Brown and he's done some impressive stuff but this surely must be fake. It's like a clip from another planet or something.

Monkey Island 2 was the pinnacle of adlib music imo, although I never played Tie Fighter (they are probably quite similarly structured since both are by Michael Land). In modern games, Icewind Dale takes the cake for its evocative score although I really like the Diablo 2 music. Deus Ex and System Shock had some great electronic music as well. Recently the only music I have really appreciated is the tune in World of Warcraft that plays in Westfall among other places, it reminds me of The Wicker Man for some reason.

Nobody tried it? It's a great twist on the asteroids/thrust kind of game and its geared for multiplayer.
-
This is kind of like a really complicated game of thrust where you can build RTS style buildings. It's well worth a download if you can find someone to practice with who wont fry your ass immediately like the players I found in the online browser. If you have a soft spot for retro action I'd give it a try. http://www.queasygames.com/gate88/

Are there better RPGs for Xbox? It doesn't seem like there's a huge amount of choice on Playstation apart from the Final Fantasy games.

Indiana Jones game set to be released in 2007
Jumjalum replied to GhostofAnakin's topic in Computer and Console
I played the Emperors Tomb demo which was alright but the Infernal Machine demo was much better (you can tell how much I love those Indy games). But since I haven't played more than 1 level of each game I should shut up. I am however looking forward to this new one and since I plan on getting a next-gen at launch I'll probably pick it up if its any good. Alas, the old point and click adventures are but a fond memory but there's always ScummVM. -
I have ignored just about every bit of Dungeon Siege 2 news, not because I hated the first but I find I have almost no interest in this sequel at all. I did actually enjoy the original up to a point despite the complete absence of any kind of story or quests. It was fun to romp through and look at the fancy graphics and nice sound effects, the enemies were interesting and the weapons were cool. The magic system sucked though, none of the spells were worthwhile other than healing ones. Anyway to get to the point the DS2 beta is available to anyone registered with Fileplanet, I dont think you even have to be a paying customer. I'm not going to download it but I'd still like to know if there is a storyline and quests this time around. http://www.fileplanet.com/betacenter/dungeonsiege2/signup/

I was going to say Eternal Darkness but you've already got it. It rocks. Metroid Prime is also great fun, I really need to go back to my Cube sometime. Paper Mario and Tales of Symphonia might be worthwhile if you're into console RPGs, although I've played neither they have had good reviews.

I think I may have to splash out on one of these next gens at launch instead of jumping on the wagon 2 years after everyone else like I usually do.

Thief 2X: Shadows of the Metal Age nearly done!

It's out, here's a link to the mirror page. http://www.thief2x.com/t2xmirrors.asp -
I was under the impression you could only leave feedback by buying stuff, I cant imagine a profitable way to cheat at it.
-
I've bought a load of stuff from amazon sellers, second-hand and brand new, and I've never had any problems. Most (actually, all) of the games you are looking for are fast becoming collector's items so I wouldn't expect to find them cheap anywhere else. There's always eBay UK as well, if you aren't nervous about using their system. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...2169630-7970815

I dont remember that mission, but fire usually isnt a huge problem. You only really need one well for a whole section of buildings, maybe 2, unless they ramped up the fire frequency on this mission. A good tip to remember is to buy emergency wood from the market if you have the dough for it (pun intended). Markets dont cost anything so you can always have one. Also, try to space out your farms so they dont set each other alight when one goes up in flames, most of the time there just isn't the room for this though.
