Uhhh, GDM, I'm fairly certain that they're talking about console games given gamestop doesn't resell PC games at ALL due to legal reasons. In California at least it was literally illegal for us to puchase and sell computer games used because they could be locked out of content due to a key code being hooked into the interwebz. To complain about computer games resale is... interesting given the sheer amount of anti-piracy garbage you have to go around now a days that often winds up with you being locked out of online if you're the second (or third/fourth/fifth) user.

Books music and movies all run MUCH cheaper than games, thus it is nowhere near as easy to justify buying used over new for the dollar value. Comic books I can't comment on for the economic model but I get the feeling that anymore they are supported more by surrounding media than by the books themselves somewhat. Cars and movies are different beasts all together. Car manufacturers not only are selling the car, but also the maintenance on the car. So ultimately they can theoretically earn more money as a car changes hands than if people just kept buying new ones. And movies are usually not judged by how they do in DVD sales. They're judged by box office sales, which Games have no allegory to.

Basically this. Of course, I don't think gamestop would be in business at all without used games because the profit margin is just SOOOO friggin high.

Order amounts for an initial release are based on the preorders that each store has. If the store has a game that comes out with 0 pre-orders, you may get 2 total for a store, where as some thing like starcraft or Modern Warfare will have a couple skillion sent to each store. If a game under performs for Gamestop then it sits on the shelf until the gameday sales or something similar where it's price is slashed in half to just get it out of the store.

to a degree it is "cheating" in that when you purchase a used game you're buying it only from gamestop or where ever rather than giving some money to the publisher for their work. Games are different from movies in particular in that there is no window where people can only see it in the theatres, it comes out as a dvd and then you've got a problem with having that controlled market where the money goes to the publisher not existing. Honestly, if gamestop were forced to pay a royalty to the publishers for used sales there would be MUUUUUCH higher profits.

http://kotaku.com/5620282/george-lucas-sui...ol-tech-company Lucas calming he has proprietary control over anything mildly jedi (including robes and mind tricks) even if they are not under specific copyright. And in a double whammy it looks like there is going to be some fighting against used sales in the VERY near future. (also steam still rocks). -
after three days I already have two numbers. Of course they're both already attached but *shrugs*.

*looks out his dorm/residence hall (I was yelled at about that yesterday) window into the fog* Gotta say, watching fog burn off from the 8th floor is awesome.

Also no matter it's physical size the mass is staying the same Thus the overall gravity stays exactly the same. The moment we should start worrying is when the moon starts loosing mass because that'll throw everything out of wack.

One of the things that was said when the leak first happened was that "Well, this is stuff we already know!" wasn't it?

I'm not writing him off... it's just that he doesn't really talk, or do much of anything it seems. I tried to be social when I got here, but I don't really want to spend the effort repeating things four times for him to understand me. Our bathroom door broke on the inside (so you couldn't get out of the bathroom without help) and I had talked to the desk about maintenance. I told him this and said that if he wanted to he could go down and talk to them to... he did, and came back saying that we needed to go online to this website (I hadn't been told this) and that he would do it... but it ended up that I did it because he didn't know enough English to fill out the proper forms. I don't want to have to be the initiator and party leader of everything that we do, and have to keep doing what he says he'll do. So basically I figure I'd just find friends outside the room.

Jesus Christ it's friggin humid out here. Been doing the whole "get aquainted" things... even so I feel like I'm A-social. Doesn't help that my roomates entire life seems to be "go out to do paperwork, come back to room and browse the net". Nothing more really.... oh and eat half preserved food.

They did make homeworld, but lost the license to it. Although they recently re-aquired it. -

At least you don't have to build a base or manage the economy in DoW2... I think it's nice that strategy games are branching out into tactical-ish squad style micromanagement and into giant map large scale strategy like SupCom(too bad about the sequel, though). True, although bungie did that in Myth wayyy before Dawn of War. Honestly, Dawn of War would have done better without "boss" fights where all you're doing is microing around and trying to kill this massive dude. Sure they could have done it like once or twice in the campaign, but having it be like every third fight was just... painful. When I think Warhammer I kinda think more "Company of heroes without a base" than "squad based mmo dungeon" -
I now feel a bit creepy being in the same city as him.

Except that for one states laws to trump another goes against the faith and credit clause that GD was talking about, which would be federal.

to Ryu's post: I think this is basically true for most people. Personally I would think that squad based games would be a bit less microtastic than individual units would given that making 6 guys move takes more than 1 guy. Also the unit cap in relics games is ridiculously low -
Yeah, I'm at ISU, it's ok for gaming, (I can play WoW at least) but Ventrilo sucks. I think it was just a MASSIVE load of everyone in the dorm linking to the network at the same time

btw, schools internet? a terrible terrible thing... the amount of reloading and lag i have is nuts.

Now this I think is an argument that has teeth. Under the "Full Faith and Credit" clause any agreement (remember marriage is a contract in the eyes of the law) made in one state is binding in another. If a couple was married in Iowa the shuold also be married as far as CA is concerned. If they were not then they can make a compelling argument for injury under both the Full Faith and Credit clause and the 14th amendment. I wonder why this has not been tried yet? It seems like the way to go to me. Enoch and I were discussing it once and he did not think it could win. He is certainly better infomred on this kind of thing than I am but it sounds like a no brainer to me. I may be remembering wrong, but I thought that was exactly the issue when the Defence of Marriage Act was appealed before the Supreme Court. They said it only applies to enforcing valid contracts, else every state would have to accept every law that another state passes, or something to that effect. marriage would be a valid contract given it has direct economic implications for the partners in the contract no?

Yeah, I'm working on that. Right now I've got most of my stuff settled in (I've got my computer up here at least) now I need to get my DL done, find a way onto school health care (it's like 8 bucks a semester but you still gotta do it) and find a place to send my scripts and a psychiatrist in the area to keep an eye on me. Got my car set out but I have to park in the stadiums parking lot (for the football team) and figure out somewhere to put my car the day before games (probably visit my friends in desmoines)

You sound like you overthink stuff a lot. Don't man, people in college are chill. Most people in college are fresh out of high school and someone else is paying their way. Calax has been out in the world and lived a little already. It's a lot harder to chill once you've done that. I have family paying the EXTREME basics. But I am going to be paying insurance, gas, meds, phone, etc. Plus I'm "jewing" the system by only taking one class so I have time to work (you take <6 credits while living in state for a year and you get resident status halving tuition). And while I do over think things it has a tendancy ot overall payoff in that I'm able to keep up mostly.

Who cares what he looks like. The question is will be bring home beer every once in a while or is he going to mooch yours? Well.... thats what I'd be wondering anyway. Really? I figured the first thing that should be agreed on is what to hang on the door knob when one has company over. I'm guessing he won't mind if I walk in during one of his LAN parties so that's really a non-issue Eh, you think thats diversity... most of my floor is from China, my roomies being from Xuzou and Shanghai (the two of them that are chinese... got one guy from Iowa). Still gotta work the "important" things out but right before we left I learned that my school had flooded and is now under a general boil order (meaning that you need to boil any cooking water because the treatment plant is down). Managed to make good time thus far. From sacramento stopped in Elko NV, Rock Springs WY, North Platte NB and am now in Omaha NB where we'll stay for a bit to pick me up a few things (white board, surge protector) before I drop the parent off at the airport and make my way to Des Moines to spend the night before moving in on weds. .... There are a LOT of canadian trucks on the road right now (saw several from ontario). And one of the things you don't notice as much until you get out here is that in the midwest everyone drives american. Sure there are a few Japanese/Korean products but most of the vehicles out here are American built. Still flippin out a little bit about basically leaving my entire life behind and starting this adventure. I'm worried about bills and residency and grades... it just makes my head spin. Plus there's the fact that I'm moving my stuff into a room, alone, that is 8 flights up that'll probably kill me pretty quick on weds so I'm trying to conserve myself.

I'm not sure but I know that in the actual amendment it says that it will not recognize anything related to a gay marriage. However in my head I'm thinking that I remember some state official saying that if you're married already the bill is not retroactive but I don't know
