Not really. I have a friend whose hobby is assembling Ikea furniture, though. He doesn't need any of the stuff he buys, and he always ends up just giving it away, but he loves putting it together. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh OK. May I remind the forum that the British Empire was one of the first, if not the first European powers to not only outlaw slavery, but to direct HM Navy to seize and return slaves to Africa. But to give due credit to Pidesco, we did that in part because our economy had moved on from slavery while our competitors - France and the US - were still dependent on it. However I think it's wrong to suggest that it was purely venal, even if that was a strong part of the case. Just as I doubt the US Cibvil war was purely venal. As for slavery being ongoing, the fact is that it still does occur in many societies, particularly in Africa (that I know of). Where children are used. There is also sex slavery worldwide and even in 'civilised' countries. However, sweatshops are not slavery. One does not buy a slave and then mistreat them to the extent that they cannot work. A slave is an investment. It has to be maintained. While a non-unionised worker is a throw-away item to be used up and dispatched.

I thought glucose had a lower soluble temp than regular sugar. And my guess would be that it clogging your extremities is due to their havinga lower than normal temp anyway, which becomes exacerbated by reduced circulation from teh clogs. But I'm only guessing here.

That's ...ew... I don't think it needs to be 100 degrees to dissolve sugar! You can dissolve sugar in simple warm tea. And I'm fairly sure you can do it cold water. I just haven't any in my office. EDIT: It has to be soluble at body temperature because it is damn well dissolved in your blood to get out to your extremities in the first place!

I have to say that Alanschu has a point. BUt then I don't see this as that kind of trade off. You don't have to sacrifice all cheap goods. There are lots of struggling economies who would love to make your - I mean OUR - cheap crud. Take the investment etc.

I certainly believe in the principle that abortion can be the kindest thing in some cases. But in a case where the principle problems are with the exterior, rather than the interior, and there's no chronic pain... I'd have to say that abortion seems wrong. I mean, aren't most of her problems due to how she is treated? I've worked with cerebral palsy kids and they don't have a much worse deal. Brain is fine, but they can't control their bodies. Eyes don't point, limbs flail around, lungs fill up with fluid if leaning at the wrong angle. But they were good guys inside, and no different in how they were epxeriencing life than you or I would be if inside the same body. I won't say they had GOOD lives, but they had 'em.
