  1. If one is teh unwilling recipient I would suggest that subject wasa normal term, but victim could be appropriate if the effect were negative. I call spending hundreds of pounds on badly made toys negative. ^_^
  2. For me I also want to go up to 23" (in monitors) and do some quality miniatures painting while watching cheesy films.
  3. I for one appreciate the articles being posted. However, having recently read the New Stateman on the train I can't say I've been impressed. Firstly John Reid is the Home Secretary, not the Secretary of State for Defence. Secondly, I don't think it is at ALL inflammatory or inaccurate to describe Moqtada Sadr as a radical. I seem to recall his mehdi army launching a war in the streets some time ago. I confess after spotting these two flaws I felt disinclined to continue reading someone's gratuitous ranting. I get enough of that on my own account.
  4. Exercise every day. Since my knees broke I don't do very much.
  5. "To learn that Napoleon in 1796 and 20,000 men beat combined forces of 30,000 by something called `economy of force' or `operating on interior lines' is a mere waste of time. If you can understand how a young, unknown man inspired a half-starved, ragged, rather Bolshie crowd; how he filled their bellies, how he out-marched, out-witted, out-bluffed, and defeated men who had studied war all their lives and waged it according to the text books of the time, you will have learnt something worth knowing." - Field Marshall A.P.Wavell
  6. I used to have Scorponok, but after suffering a particularly bad case of fever I discovered I had shot him into pieces.
  7. That's one view, certainly. I refer you to my version. You can't break new ground and expect it to be an orderly process. Hence planning gets a might tricksy.
  8. Precisely. )
  9. Colrom, I'm a wee bit confused. Are you saying they shouldn't have bothered?
  10. Dear God! It's reading the forum it spammed!
  11. Pixies, you're getting confused about the meaning of the word 'trunk' again. People, he means trunks as in pants.
  12. Colrom: I disagree. Loyalty implies a lack of reciprocity. If I commit to something in a way demanding loyalty then I do not ask for anything in return. Anything else is just a common market-stall trade.
  13. I'm at my parents for Christmas, so am playing Chaos Overlords, and Steel Panthers, as freeware on their slighlty pokey PC.
  14. Working bloody had is inevitable if you are planning to run a business based on anything other than ripping people off. Anyone tells you different is either ripping you off, or being ripped off. I have to say, though, that while I agree it would have been good to get rejoinders from the publishers, I doubt they would be very illuminating. On the other hand it sounds very plausible that the pubs let them down, based on my own experience. It is the chief hazard of any strategic business alliance that big partners just don't care. If you want them to you have to essentially abduct one or two of their bigwigs, bring them with you to your end of things, and make them go native. They have to be inspired as if they are junior and slightly dense members of your own staff. In particular I think it is nonsensical to blame Troika for bringing out novel design rich games beyond time budgets. If you cram your games with cool stuff it is almost inevitable that it will over-run initial estimates. It ridiculous for the pubs to expect really great novel games to be churned out like cheeseburgers. On the other hand, how in the name of sweet horned Feth does a game wipe your hard drive?
  15. You mean like a 4x4?
  16. Keep us posted.
  17. Well, they look real pretty. But you have to realise that in the UK a car is just a form of sofa.
  18. I really don't think we can expect much from this. I think we could learn more aboput it, all of us, so as to more appropriately move against it, but beyond that... I mean, what were you expecting? Personally I feel nauseous about the very idea. I've talked to guys who actually espouse it, and they didn't change my mind. Enough?
  19. Can I be gauche and just say it looks idiotic?
  20. Heh, I remember the Wingman. In actual fact i used to play TIE fighter using a touchpad. I got really mad about how hard it was to hit anything, until someone pointed out that nothing was hitting me. If you really really don't want to get hit, accept no substitutes. Think I'll try that Saitek.
  21. It doesn't bother me that these games exist. Firstly, on general principles they are justified in a market economy. Secondly, they serve as an easy to access game for youngsters to get into this type of game. However, as you pointed out there are two reasons why I would hope they do not exclusively dominate. 1) Quite simply not everyone can move quick enough for twitch gaming. They represent a section of the market that unless catered to will spend tehir readies on summat else. 2) I think that if you put too much of the button mashing in then you are neglecting the true potential of the genre.
  22. What didn't you like about the controls? I thought they were remarkably straightforward. My only real beef is there weren't enough hotkeys for unit structures. I got bought Company of Heroes a few weeks ago, and it absolutely rocks. Tonnes of fun.
  23. Too late Walsi, they already have one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Brains! *drool* And yes, the joystick is for x2, but I'm planning on getting more. I figure my brain could use the exercise of more 3d manoeuvring.
  24. I'm going to remember him for his mojo. Not his vices. I hope the same courtesy will be accorded me.
  25. Ironic that the exact inverse is true here in the UK. Joe Public hate the religious.
