  1. I was just thinking that maybe back in the middle ages such a person would have been chased out into the woods.
  2. Just before going to bed last night I discovered the dog had fleas. Picture, if you will, the whirlwind of activity as the poor pooch gets bundled in the blanket he was sleeping on, and dumped unceremoniously into the washing up bowl. Flea shampoo followed, and after a towelling (I don't own a hairdryer) he spent the night in the kitchen. I felt bad about it, but it had to be done. Fingers crossed they've gone. When I was a kid our cat used to get fleas all the time, and summer generally became a nightmare.
  3. What, so you're saying you don't mind extrajudicial executions, just because Putin makes the trains run on time? Do you even live in Russia? I don't see much in the way of it being turned around. Theonly thing being turned around is the military, not the lives of ordinary Russians, which is not surprising given we appear to be dealing with some kind of junta.

Then they should have done the decent thing, and bioengineered the two girls together into a dangerous singing monster, that would go on a rampage, cuteifying people left right and centre.
  5. you know what's sad about this is that the pressure his scientology buddies had put him under (to resign) could easily have triggered the stroke. taks Possibly. But I'd put my money on being overweight.
  6. it's not like we're going in depth with the details You haven't gone too far, no. Not yet. Why ARE we all wearing lipstick, suddenly?
  7. Another comment from elsewhere: I guess there is a point, but for the love of all that's holy, give the guy a break! EDIT: a similar issue.
  8. Scratch my earlier thing with this edit:
  9. Alright, gentlemen. Family site and all that. Steady on.
  10. I do know from my old cognitive psychology training that many mental skills - often described as intelligence - are due to an alliance of very specific subskills and areas of expertise. [M. Eysenck & M.W.Keane, 2003 collects these, if memory serves*]. I therefore see your point. If we live in a pre-chewed information age, what will we cut our teeth on? *The ability to memorise names and study years is one example of this. I thought it would be impossible when I was an undergraduate.
  11. I believe I can best contribute by repeating the request of others: Gameplay. Please. Seriously.
  12. I take issue with the central notion. Some of my games, like Company of Heroes, I'm just not good enough to finish.
  13. I disagree. They ought to have done better. I personally think it is all down to a-hole studio execs who try to forumlarise success. They can't grasp that it's a mix of perfection and imperfection, and misfires that makes a great movie.

You really can't put them down.

Alright, maybe not THAT much of an idiot.
  16. http://link.brightcove.com/services/player...ctid=1522751113 I thought this story was interesting, but also inspiring, when one thinks one has problems.
  17. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...-in-Darfur.html My analysis is that the ****heads of the World have worked out that the global media have only limited bandwidth, and when one thing kicks off, a whole host should follow.
  18. I re-watched Wong Kar Wai's Fallen Angels. Quite apart from having some of the sexiest lady moments in it, it's got gunfights, and a man massaging a pig. Quite fantastic.

I'm glad he's not ill any more. I looked, and he mentioned it himself in the afterword to his last book.

Can some clever chap please give an idiot's guide to the present Chinese government system?
  21. That university thing sounds terrible. They don't make any distinction between why people drop out? I would suggest that the Minister responsible drop out, and be henceforth unable to get government funding.
  22. I have been furiously working on securing contracts today. Had some moderate success moving towards a deal. Good luck on the interview, mate. Never knock warehouse work. Plenty of exercise, and usually the people are good for a laugh.
  23. Or it might have something to do with the fact that Putin appears to murder his domestic critics, even on our soil. But I'm sure you'll tell me his KGB thing was 'just a phase all young men go through'?

He certainly does. I heard the poor chap was ill, though. I must confess I also liked the Wild Card stories. That really would be due for an MMORPG.
