  1. Quod erat demonstrandum, I think.
  2. It's interesting how 'oby' is able to simply repost images and comments and almost effortlessly spoof a Russian nationalist. Note how many of those images could have come from almost any conflict at any time.
  3. You did the right thing. Just consider how many days her heart didn't do anything weird, if you want it in perspective.
  4. Liberal democracies can only last 200 years, eh? What's the stable half life of dictatorships, then?
  5. We've all seen numerous studies showing that teh average hotdesking keyboard has more poop particles than a toilet seat. *Very slowly removes hands from keyboard and stares at his fingertips, horrified.*
  6. Thought I'd dip in. Israel can't secure the Gaza border. You aren't going to secure the land borders of the USA.
  7. Oddly I got the same thing at about that time. Assuming you're an hour ahead.
  8. Why 'ew'? You weirdos aren't getting all hypocritical again are you?
  9. no disagreement. we were responding to zor's observation 'bout thinking obama has done better than mccain or romney would have. measure obama against the imagined evils of folks who failed to become President? historians rare indulge in such fantasies, and for good reason. it struck us as more than a bit silly to judge obama based on how he stands up to zor's fantasies o' romney/mccain/other incompetence. HA! Good Fun! Completely agree. It really is a subject for speculative historical fiction when you get into "what if this happened". Makes for interesting reading sometimes like Newt Gingrich's novel on what the world would be like if the CSA won the US Civil War. Historical analysis really rests on what did happen. There is no way to know what the world would look like if Romney, McCain, Kerry, Gore, etc would have won. Honestly in terms of foreign policy I believe the difference would really be on of degree rather than something radically different. 9-11 was still going to happen and the events that set in motion would probably have played out the same. With the exception of Iraq I guess. I think you're right up to a point. The key weakness of most counter-historical fiction IMO is that it doesn't take account of any feedback. They mostly assume that a player has a given leaning, and if they'd won they wouldn't moderate those leanings pragmatically, or when they saw the consequences. I'm not saying people rae always pragmatic, but I think many are, and pragmatic approaches tend to converge.
  10. If he's going to start punishing people for doing that then I guess the internet is going to make him too busy to punish anything else. On topic, permit me to introduce Hailey Clauson.
  11. I got invited to a party yesterday, and there were Eastern Europeans there, and vodka. I'm pretty sure I only made it home after trespassing through a stranger's garden. And I missed the entire day due to hangover.
  12. MURICA!!! I sure wish we would develop orbital weaponry. Just imagine the jet fuel savings! Finally. A green argument for orbital death lasers. Now we'll get them.
  13. Oxtail soup. This time cut the fat off first and rendered it down some, then removed from the saucepan. Added trimmed chunks of tail, red pepper, vegetable marrow, chicken stock cubes, coriander seed, black pepper. Much nicer overall, I'm ashamed to say.
  14. Your mother doesn't count. If you think about it, that's actually a terribly sad story.
  15. Another thought, and I apologise if anyone's already made it: how come the brave defenders of the Palestinians haven't built any bomb shelters?
  16. I didn't get a photo, but on Friday early evening I saw one of the most magnificent women I've ever seen. She had to be 6'4", and maybe four feet from prow to stern. Brunette, and the bearing of a lioness. My first thought was "My God, why did I pick today to leave behind my climbing gear?" My second thought was "My God, if only Woldan were here. I'm sure if I got him some chalk, and a bottle of iced tea, and he'd just go for it."
  17. Everyone stops ...except the **** who just couldn't wait to get into the shops.
  18. This thread is indeed quite civilised for the subject, and we've got precisely nowhere. Public opinion simply isn't capable of addressing this issue, any more than one could expect a bag of cats to do differential calculus.
  19. Jog day 1, Interval train day 2, rest day three. Jogging, start with short chunks, about two minutes each, jog and fast walk. Each three part cycle just add 30 seconds to each chunk. Do about twenty minutes total when you're starting, work your way up from there. Gradually. Interval training is its own beast. Keep your chin up and your rear end forward. I speak from having yoyo'd from fat to fit and back twice. It works.
  20. Looooong day. For some reason I've got a sort of earworm running around in my head: "If it wasn't for the English you'd be Welsh."
  21. 1. Nope. I'm not. No justification. Period. 2. Are you implying the only way for Isreal to do anything is to bomb the living s*** out of innocent civilians? There is a such a thing as an "appropriate response". Isreal is already shooting down about 99% of rockets coming their way. THAT is the definition of doing something. Their "strategy" (if you can call it that) is insane and not working. *First two points snipped to emphasise third* Thirdly, they aren't shooting down 99% of the rcokets. If you can't be bothered to do a very basic check then I really think you're just angry for the gidddy thrill of being angry. Which is fine, just don't expect anyone to take your joyous ranting into policy.
