Look at the mods people make for the Jedi Knight series of games. It seems most everyone is obsessed with light sabers on some level. The majority of fans want Force Powers. In KOTOR and KOTOR:2 you have non-Jedi in your party, and have the opportunity to use them.

I think this is a great idea. I'm down for it.

I also find it curious. That's why I posted the poll. Look, I love immersion stuff. Ultima 7 remains one of my all time favorite games. I've replayed it countless times. Part of what made Ultima 7 so incredible was how immersive the game was, more so than perhaps any other game I've played. KOTOR is light years removed from Ultima 7. If the game was close, but needed a little more immersion, I'd say focus on it. However, the gameplay doesn't seen focused on, or reliant upon immersion. Maybe that's just me.

Back on topic, I think a seperate playable character would be silly. All the dialouge would be meaningless. I think concept art, extra music, animations, a hidden mini-game, etc. are fine unlockables even in an RPG.

Fallout 2 had TOO MANY easter eggs, which destroyed gameplay. I don't mind easter eggs in moderation. KOTOR:2 easter eggs should be referential to other sci-fi if not existing Star Wars, or Star Wars humor. I think Monty Python, while rather humorous, would destroy immersion in a Star Wars game.

There is a grey Jedi too. Avoiding passion at all costs seems an extreme view, a precautionary measure to avoid the DS, but not entirely necessary in many's eyes. I think that was part of the message of KOTOR. You could love, and have that love be a strength, not a hinderance in followng your beliefs.

Having seen Hayden Christensen in other films than Star Wars, I can attest to the fect that Hayden can act. We don't assume that Liam Neeson, Ewan Macgregor, and Natalie Portman are all bad actors due to the poor prequels. It is really unfair to saddly Episode II's flaws on Hayden. The Skywalkers have been whinny punks in all five movies so far. Jabba's palace scene is the only exception.

Imagine in KOTOR:1 if we had the opportunity to convince Carth that his only son was now a threat to peace everywhere, and that the galaxy would be safer if Carth put a blaster bolt to his son's head? Imagine if we in turn convinced Carth that his allegiance to the Republic was meaningless? That allegiance to the Republic killed his wife, and nearly cost him his son? Now that the Republic was in shambles, the only opportunity to redeem his past failures was to join his son in a winning cause in the new power in the galaxy? In general, I don't think evil is random. It is purposeful. It is cruelty to serve a given purpose. Most megalomaniacs desire personal power. KOTOR's dark side seemed to be random evil.

Every member of this forum has demonstrated their allegiance by being here to Lucas products on some level. That doesn't mean we all agree with ever decision Lucas made, but it does mean that we enjoy Star Wars on some base level.

will anything be added to deepen the combat?
EnderAndrew replied to Logain_Ablar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Star Wars is not all about the Jedi's as Battlefront, Bounty Hunter, X-Wing Alliance, etc demonstrate. KOTOR and KOTOR:2 are however all about the Force. -
Who should make the leap to KotOR II?
EnderAndrew replied to Retnuh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Revan is almost guaranteed to return in some form, because there are so many questions that must be addressed. I really doubt Bastilla would return because how easily she domianted the first game, she can't be allowed to have the same impact on the second. -
As of now, what are your thoughts on KOTOR II?
EnderAndrew replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Since the game won umpteen million game-of-the-year awards, why would they mess with gameplay too much? It sold plenty of copies on both PC and console formats. It met with fan and critic support. Many of the people on this forum may feel differently, but the masses have said KOTOR was great as is. Do you think LucasArts would are screw with the formula too much? -
***UNOFFICAL KOTOR 2 : THE SITH LORDS FAQ***
EnderAndrew replied to Gromnir's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I've got a strong suspicious that you are right. Either Revan (dark) killed her, or Revan (light) is seeking to avenge her death. -
I still glance at it, but it's become pretty big. It's easy to miss stuff among all those pages, though I think I've caught many of the ones I can respond to. -Akari Is there any type of feedback specifically the devs are interested in? Are there any features of issues being debated at this point in development? I know you don't want to give away everything, but would it be fair to say certain aspects (levels, NPCs, story, interface, whatever) are set in stone, and others aren't?

Sure, murder is evil. KOTOR let you murder plenty. KOTOR was goody-two-shoes, or murder for the sake of murdering. I think a story is more appealing when someone is good because of a principle that they cling to staunchly. I think dedication in the face of adversity is more interesting that Mr. Roger's rules of being good. I think those twisted by the pursuit of power into uncaring forces of destruction are frightening to behold. Killing random innocent people for no reason isn't as appealing. Good should be noble. Evil should be "evil".

will anything be added to deepen the combat?
EnderAndrew replied to Logain_Ablar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I recommended removing that option because of the repeated claims that combat was too easy in KOTOR. It would be an easy way to make combat more difficult. -
To be perfectally honest, with Unreal and Valve producing ROCK SOLID portable and moddable 3d engines and licensing them out, it's a little sad to see the KOTOR engine being reused. Bioware was capable of going from scratch on their next two games. I'm not saying Obsidian couldn't, and I'm sure LucasArts made the decision to reuse the engine and hurry a sequel. I'd just like to see more people move on to better engines.

As soon as I realized how big the game way, and how many hours it would take to beat, I used a characted editor and cheated largely. I barely had time for for all the dialouge, exploration, side quests, etc. I didn't want to waste time on leveling.

I understand that a coder won't be doing the trailer. It will likely be the same team member responsible for models, or textures. The point being, there isn't a team member lying around with no purpose other than making a trailer. They have another job. You turn around and complain the game will be just like KOTOR:1, and I would contend if they spent from now until February merely babysitting the online community, that's what you would get. They have only a few months left to produce a sequel to a very popular and well-received game. I'd rather they focus more on game, and less on hooplah. I expect they plan to have a trailer, and a trailer will be made. However, statements like I WANT A TRAILER TODAY, and GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE YESTERDAY, and A FULL FEATURE LIST SET IN STONE are silly. I'd love material to whet my appetite, but I'd prefer a well-designed game with a good attention to detail.

I never beat Arcarnum. I was a good 40-50 hours in before my system and HDD died.

Have you played any of the Half Life mods? Many of them change basic gameplay entirely. Half Life 2's engine caters to modding even more. So, I'm sure the engine could be utilized for an RPG.

How many titles are in development then?
EnderAndrew replied to DemonKing's topic in Obsidian General
Obsidian appears to be LucasArt's new goldenboy! I just saw a Gamespy article that said Obsidian's next game after KOTOR:2 will be Sam and Max vs Howard the Duck! -

EnderAndrew replied to Logain_Ablar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I agree that Bendak was the toughest fight for me because I intentionally didn't level up. I only killed Bendak because you could save mid-battle. While I exploited it heavily, I'd recommend removing that from KOTOR:2. -
Characters we know so far...

Off topic: I'm crossing my fingers right now, because Wolfgang Petersen is sitting on the rights to the Ender's Game movie, and doesn't have his next movie lined up. The guys that wrote X:2 were hired a few months back to write a script based upon Orson Scott Card's initial verison. There is a chance Ender's Game could be Petersen's next film. (He did Das Boot, Air Force One, Outbreak, The Perfect Storm, and Troy to name a few)
