Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions
GhostofAnakin replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
If the stuff in the Hand of Thrawn duology are to be believed, then it was some Dark Jedi master who landed on Dagobah and Yoda defeated him, but his dark side energy remained, helping mask Yoda. Or something like that. <_< -
What controller? We were talking about Robes and Armor here.
-
It only appears if you press the B button on the controller fast enough.
-
Luke wasn't a Jedi in RotJ until he confronted Vader. And then if you watch the scene fast enough, he grabs Palpatine's robes and makes off with them screaming "I am now a Jedi! In your FACE Yoda!"

Apparently anything smaller than the Titanic is too small for Darque's taste. "

I dunno....those ears make her look a bit like an elf.

Length. Don't forget length.

Now you know how George Bush feels and why he always looks perturbed.

Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions
GhostofAnakin replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'd like to see a RPG based on a character that didn't necessarily have to be Force sensitive in order for the story to be plausible. KOTOR's story just wouldn't work with a non-Jedi/Sith as the protagonist. But if a game's story was built more around, say, the fringe such as crime organizations or crime lords, or even focussed more on the military wing of the Empire/Sith (ie. those Sith troopers/Storm Troopers, rather than the Dark Jedi, Sith Apprentice), then it could make sense. To be honest, I don't know how well a game would sell if you (the gamer) couldn't play as a Force sensitive. Especially now that the KOTOR series has hit the shelves and gamers already know what possessing those powers is like. But I'd be 100% inclined to play a game where the story revolved around a non-Force sensitive in a RPG setting (I added that part before people suggested I play Republic Commando or Battlefront). -
So uh, why was KOTOR2 rushed?
GhostofAnakin replied to -Zin-'s topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yes, the NPC-specific sidequests were something I missed in K2. I enjoyed them and thought they added a lot to the feel that each companion had a story of their own to deal with. Mandalore *could* have had a sidequest in K2 with the re-uniting of the Mandalorian clans, but apart from getting them to join him on Dxun, you got no XP for it, and it had zero impact on the actual game. -
What are you talking about? Carth only shows up as Admiral if you choose LS for the ending of KOTOR1. If you chose DS, then some black dude is Admiral.

But that's just it: if they know the series (or have a pretty good idea) is going to be a big money maker, the up front fixed costs wouldn't be an issue. I'm assuming they'd do a sales forecast and calculate all the various revenue and expenses, etc. So I don't think up front costs would be a problem. The only thing I can think of is they wouldn't want two similar games competing with each other. But I don't think that's a big problem, considering EA sports releases both professional and college sports games at the same time (ie. Madden and NCAA football are usually released around the same time, give or take a month or two). -

I wonder why Lucasarts doesn't decide to do them simultaneously? I mean, I'm assuming KOTOR is a money maker (if I'm wrong, then there's no point to this thread since K3 will never be made in that case), so why not get two different development houses to work on this. One works on K3, the other works on a different SW RPG. Especially since it's outsourced, I don't see the problem. I could understand their trepedation if they had to handle all development themselves, but with outsourcing the games, I'm not sure why not. -
Considering how Star Wars is known to give out ranks to their "heroes" I don't think Carth becoming Admiral is such a big stretch. General Calrissian - went from Baron Administrator for Cloud City and nothing to do with the Rebellion, to General after he helped save Han from Jabba (ie. hero) General Solo - like Calrissian, went from a bystander to a General because of his heroic acts through two movies, rather than because he actually rose through the ranks like most soldiers do. Commander Skywalker - he was just a regular pilot, but then he blew up the Death Star so that meant a promotion to Commander and Rogue Leader.

Agreed with this. This is what I've been saying since the suggestions forum for K2 came up and people were suggesting we be allowed to play as a non-Force sensitive. I'm all for playing as a non-Jedi in a SW RPG, but not this particular series. -
That's like me. I found like 4 styles I liked best and put all my points into them. Sure it limited my selection, but as someone mentioned, it seemed too much of a hassle to go in and out of the pause screen to map new styles everytime I wanted to change from the 4 I had mapped. I still think my major complaint is how short the game is, or atleast how shor the RPG aspect is until it becomes a linear hack fest. The fact that after Imperial City it's basically a hackfest action game wouldn't have been bad if there was atleast one or two more "cities" to visit before Imperial City. I mean, KOTOR and KOTOR2 get bashed for how short they were, but atleast they had more than just 2 (3 if you include the tutorial known as your home village) places to actually travel to.

kotor 2 restoration WIP
GhostofAnakin replied to Darth Tratious's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
There were screenshots of a DS looking Atris, and one of the devs commented that that was originally going to be the Atris that you faced depending on your alignment (I forget exactly which alignment). As for why Atris turned, I kinda understood that she had turned already but was just in denial (sorta like Anakin denying he was going DS) until Kreia "showed" her she was. Atris had been collecting Sith Holocrons and learned various Sith teachings, and probably was either not strong enough, or too filled with anger (look how she reacts to the Exile) to control turning to the DS. -

GhostofAnakin replied to -Zin-'s topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
My main problem (and I think it's been touched on) with the Influence System (or rather the backstories) is that it seemed that there wasn't much else point in talking to your companions once you got full influence. The problem with that is a couple of the characters are pretty easy to get influence with so there was no real point in talking to them after halfway through (or whenever) since their entire backstory was known, and they didn't really have anything new to say. In that one sense I liked KOTOR 1's way of handling it where it seemed like the characters had something new to say each time you leveled up and their entire story wasn't known til near the end. Or atleast that's how it seemed to me. -

GhostofAnakin replied to -Zin-'s topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I blame it on Episode III. Lucasarts(film) probably didn't want all their various games/etc. coming out the same time, so Lucasarts was probably adamant about KOTOR2 being completed before the Ep. III game and movie were slated to be released, thus any chance of pushing TSL's release back for another 2 or 3 full months (as opposed to the very little extra time they had on the PC version) was slim to none. -
Wow that helped me a lot. Thanks Darque.

The main problem I had with it is after you infiltrate the Lotus Assassin fortress, the game can hardly be called a RPG since it resembles more of an action game with very few roleplaying opportunities. It wasn't bad up until that point, but I think they should have made it longer (ie. included Phoenix Gate) so that the player would feel like they'd actually travelled to various areas.

How do *you* find players for your campaigns?
GhostofAnakin replied to Lancer's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
I've actually been curious about this topic as well, since not a single one of my current group of friends is in to this kind of thing, and in my entire life only two other guys have ever been in to RPing. -
I enjoyed JE my first time through as OP. I also enjoyed it until the Lotus Assassin fortress my second time through as CF. After that it became more action than RPG and I started to lose interest (especially since having played the game one time I knew what was going to come). I do wish they included Phoenix Gate though. The game just seemed a tad short with not many travel areas as it was.
