Baldurs Gate with Jade Empire-style Graphics
GhostofAnakin replied to GhostofAnakin's topic in Computer and Console
True. I should have worded it better, but what I was getting at was if Baldurs Gate 3 was made and *DID* have JE or Vampires' style graphics, would it lose some appeal, or feel unfamiliar with the rest of the BG series? -
After replaying a game of Baldurs Gate it got me thinking about it, and the other IE games and wondered whether they'd lose their appeal if they were made with the current day graphics that games like Vampires or JE have. The combat would definitely have to be different as I can't see JE allowing for a 6 person party and full control the same way you had in BG. I think the Infinity Engine's graphics became part of the charm of those games and I'm not sure if they made BG3 with current day graphics if I'd be able to see it as the third in that series, rather than just seeing it as a new game that just happened to have the BG name on it.

So has anyone played it yet? It was supposed to be released yesterday, correct?
-
I'll make my prediction right here and now (and someone can quote me) that when NWN2 is released Hades will "somehow" play it. He'll come up with an excuse as to how or why he ended up playing it, just like how he's gone back on pretty much everything he's stated on here at one point or another.

There are some I have enjoyed but keep in mind they are still third party mods and no way can they be on par of professionally backed games. The best so far is Tortured Hearts, but then Volourn's mod has yet been officially released. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Paladin Trilogy.

New single player campaign? Same reason why BG2 and FO2 and IWD2 were made.

I agree. I was pretty upset with the fact that the explanation I was given to remedy my issues with Bloodlines by their tech support was "get more RAM" when I had enough according to the REQ and REC specs. But I'm just saying that I think the game length on the box is an approximation just like the required and recommended stats are and that a gamer shouldn't necessarily think that their computer will be able to handle it 100%.
-
I wonder if this is the DnD influence talking. People have grown up accustomed to the Fantasy setting and therefore only those who are "daring" (couldn't think of a better word) enough to try new things actually give other settings a chance.
-
Does it say the actual game length on the box, or approximate? If it's just approximate then I think that the gamer should play at their own risk and assume that the game might be around that length if they do every single sidequest, and converse with the majority of NPCs and whatnot. I think game length is much like the Required and Recommended Specs. Take Bloodlines for example. I had the RECOMMENDED specs beat, but the game was still choppy and slow as crap on my machine. It shouldn't be the be-all-end-all of what the game will be, but a rather lenient gauge.

Talk about impossible mission. I mean, I've seen people claim to have played KotOR for 60 hours! I did everything there was to do in the game and it still only took me just under 30 hours to complete. My cousin (who admittedly probably skipped a lot of side-quests) completed Jade empire in around 13 hours, while some people claim it's a 30+ hours long game. I would love to see it put in a system that worked, but it's too subjective to ever work. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I don't see how that would be possible. Movies are a certain standard length because the scenes play at a given speed, with the enduser unable to do anything about it, except when they pause or fastforward. In that case, it's much like someone rushing through a 30 hour game and finishing it in 15. If you fastforward through the movie you can finish the movie in 15 minutes, but that doesn't mean what is written on the box is incorrect about 93 minutes long. There's too much reliance on each individual gamer's pacing that you can't really account for in dictating that if a game says 30 hours, it has to be exactly 30 hours long since people play the games at a different pace.

I want that game. I think that'll be my next purchase whenever I get off my lazy butt and get to a store.

Obsidian and Lucasarts should settle it in the octagon. "Fearsome" Feargus Urquhart versus Mike "Darth" Gallo Loser has to admit publicly that any problems with TSL was 100% their fault.

Revan & the Exile's gender/alignment

Malak swings both ways. -
Game length is a non-issue as long as the game's length makes sense for a given story. I don't think a game like KOTOR, with the story it was telling, needed to be 200+ hours long. I don't think Jade Empire's story would fit well with a 100+ hour game length. Game length only matters when it feels like there was more the story could have told. In JE's case, I kind of felt that given another 10 hours of game time it could have been more indepth, but 10 extra hours IMO is hardly the same as bemoaning the fact it wasn't the same length as BG2 or Morrowind.

KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
GhostofAnakin replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
No and no. -
Have you tried actually writing to someone like Mike Gallo? A written correspondence usually gets more recognition than a random email that's sent to a random Lucasarts email account. In any case, even if your theory is correct, I doubt you're going to get a response from a higher up at Lucasarts saying "yeah, actually, we are trying to sabotage Obsidian. But pinky swear you won't repeat this, okay?".

Has anyone played with subtitles off?

KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
GhostofAnakin replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That would be almost like developing two different games at one time. It would probably be even more difficult than actually creating two different games since they'd have to make sure that DS choices didn't mess up the LS path and vice versa. It's a good idea, just one that I don't think is very feasible. -
Then your opinion of it can't really be considered valid, can it? You admit to never having played it yet feel you can make an educated comparison between it and Bloodlines, and also make a definite (which is what you did) statement about what kind of game it is. That's a bit arrogant don't you think? a. There were certain quests you could accomplish without combat. A decent amount, actually. b. To a degree, yes. But admittedly not profound. c. Yes, they do. You get different dialogue options depending on certain stats, as well as being able to get better deals on prices in shops. d. 3 endings in JE depending on your choices, not to mention subtle differences in ending depending on romance options and whatnot. e. Very good story. So I'm not sure how it's just a console fighter game. I've played the game, you haven't. I have FIRST HAND experience what JE is and what it isn't, you have conjecture and speculation based upon reviews and posts you've read. But I'll leave it to you to decide who has a better educated opinion of it based on that fact alone.

I'm thinking of picking this game up. The story sounds intriguing and I'm in the need for a new game. This one is the only one that piques my interest that's a new release.

Revan & the Exile's gender/alignment
GhostofAnakin replied to GhostofAnakin's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Revan's a lightside male. If you disagree then email Lucasfilm with your complaints. But honestly, I felt K1 made more sense with a male Revan. The Carth romance with the female PC was very shallow and there didn't seem to be much of a bond until the very end. Whereas the Bastila romance was more fleshed out and really had a more important part of the story attached to it (getting Bastila to turn back to the light because she "loves" you). Not to mention Malak seemed like the type that would only follow men. He seemed like the sexist, bulky jock-like character that would never follow a "puny girl". In K2, the bets are off. I could see the Exile being either, although a female Exile does have a better ring to it since this time the romance was probably more fleshed out for Atton as opposed to Handmaiden and because of the past with Atris and Kreia. -
If Bill Clinton was still US President he'd be all for the "Hot Coffee" mod.

You have girly fingers.

Out of curiosity, why do you feel Bloodlines achieved this evolution, but you don't cite Jade Empire with the same credit? I've played both, and I'd say JE's combat is less "twitch" based than Bloodlines for the simple reason that if you press the "attack" button in JE you'll hit something (it's autotargetted), but unless you have the cursor over your enemy in Bloodlines you'll be swinging at air. I'm just curious why you applaud Bloodlines for amalgamating the RPG and FPS genre in a positive way, but don't really mention JE in the same breath.
