"Ps. Definition of irony: it turned out I had to review Ribbit King for the PS2 a few months later.. " Ha. If I had a heart, stories like this would warm me up. :D

Is it Raining on Your Parade?
Volourn replied to BuckeyeRowe's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well.. Some things I was looking forwrad to like the Influence System doesn't seem to be nearly as good as I thought it was gonna be. Still, I think the game - complaints aside - will still be a solidly fun experience so it'll be a worthy purchase. I don't think it'll suck; but I doubt it'll be my favorite game of all time. Then again, neither was KOTOR1 so meh. -
"Interplay is dead." Interplay isn't dead.

"What if Bioware, Obsidian, and Troika pool their resources and buy out Titus' shares of Interplay, take what licenses Interplay has and split among them. Obsidian will get Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, Jefferson, and Van Buren. Bioware will regain all the Baldur's Gate property they made at Interplay, Troika would finally get their Fallout, then split other Interplay IP evenly. Descent, Freespace, and etc. That would be interesting if they did that." Why would Bioware have to share the purchase? R00fles! Anywyas, Ip doesn't own the rights to FO other than FOOL. And, having the Bg rights mean nothing as that belongs to Atari anyways. Same with IWD and PST. Adterall, one can't publish D&D games without Atari's support anyways.

Interplay still lives! GO HERVE GO!

So much for "no more mature topics in D&D"
Volourn replied to deganawida's topic in Computer and Console
"It was a question of allowing licensors of their IPs to publish mature content with their IP." Yet the most recent D&D products TOEE, and HOTU have "mature" material in them including slavery and the like. Maybe, they just don't like certain types of "mature" stuff like actual bordellos. :D -
"consistantly in the top 10 in multiplayer" NWN is cosntantly in the top 10 MP games not counting full fledge MMORPGS. In fact, it's usually in the top 5 (5th normall; as high as 4 as the top 3 are well beyond reach). Those people who think it's not a success that way would also be wrong. R00fles!

Future games you are seriously looking forward to.
Volourn replied to Lilac Benjamine's topic in Computer and Console
"Weird. I have only tried Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance together with a friend (we still haven't finished it) and it doesn't suck at all. Maybe if I try it alone? I thought that game was made to be played co-operatively and that the single player was just a by-product." It's amde to play it both ways. While, it's more "fun" killing with a partner; the game is stull fun solo. Afterall, nothing about the game changes at all either way. -
Only the truly foolish. Afterall, I wanted to see it sell 3 copies so I can laugh. Hahaha. Ah well. Interplay was already useless anyways since they weren't really making any games anyways other that other MMORPG that they were 'financing'.
-
Damn. I was looking forward to FOOL.

"Perhaps he is not very good at spelling when typing fast ?" R00fles! "Thanks everyone for being so helpful. And to Volourn i.e. Mr.Nitpicky" I am to please or annoy. Either works for me. "

"the Severed hand - Dorn's Keep part in the original is truly a CPRG masterpiece, outstanding music and glimpses of former glory trickling out through the dense post apocalyptic atmosphere" I agree. They were awesome. Espiciailly Dorn's Deep as Severed Hand was kinda crippled due to having lots of undead (even though I know it made sense for the area, of course). Good stuff.
-
Cliffhangers are only good if make sense, and it isn't there just to be cool. And, there will be a follow up. We don't know for sure of there will be a KOTOR3 and we also don't know if Obsidian will even develop it so in this case it was a very poor move on their part.

"You're not a hypocrite, Volo. You're just starved for attention." Yeah. Because I know what I am and don't deny it. Though; it's not attention I'm starved for (unless it's Darque's I admit ); just intelligent discussion which unfortunately is lacking on the 'net; but I never give up hope and continue to search for it! R00fles!

"was just wondering what you all are doing here. Why are you here? What sort of NWN user are you? A player? A Builder? A developer of custom content? Do you play online? Do you play in PWs? Would you class yourself as a roleplayer or powergamer (though I don't expect many to admit to the latter)? What is your background in RPGs. Why are you following NWN2's development, rather than Dragon Age (unless you are following both)? " I'm here cause of the following: I like NWN1. I look forward to see what improvement to that game that NWN2 can bring. I like Obsidian. I'ma a player and a builder though I have yet to release my mod(s) " . So, actually, you can call me a wannabe builder. I play on line, and on PWs. I'ma role-player though I find on most PWs; your only option is to "powergame" though even then I always find a way to 'role-play". Background? Been playing them for almost 2 decades. Mostly D&D; but I have dabbled in various other ones as well. D&D is still my fvaorite though. I'm following both DA, and NWN2. Don't know why people keep trying to make it an either/or proposition. P.S. Ender, for someone who hates D&D so much; you sure seem to like its rules (except Rule 0, of course). And, you sure ar einteretsed in playing games based off it. Weird that.

Yes. BGDA's length (a;ong with its maan system) were the two big things I disliked about BGDA. That's why I didn't pay full price for it. 10 hour games aren't worth $50+. -
"Volourn. You're absolutely full of it. I've read the books. There is no clear cut way to determine what spell goes at what level. Morrowind has millions of spells. In D&D, you have 1700 spells. The slot system is far from the best system. If it was the best, people wouldn't bitch about it all the time. Normally, I wouldn't bother to argue with you, because you're a troll. But you're neither right nor amusing here. You're just propogating poorly founded opinions, and unfactual information." Haha. I'm the troll? Pot. Kettle. Black. As has been pointed out, MW's "millions of spells" are basically the same with a minor difference. I'm just counting say "empowered fireball" as a different spell or "iceball" as pone as well. It seems only fair consideirng how you guys are desperate to pad MW's spells. You obviously haven't read the books enough. I've even provided just a few examples of actual "rules" ir "guidelines" on how to make D&D spells. What's funny is that there are no real rules for MWM. You just mix and match. R00fles! WOW! People complain about the slot system. First off, people complain about everything including every type of magic system. That isn't news nor does that make any system better or worse than another. Only someone acting like a troll would think toherwise. Then again, someone as full of themslves like you (and me) would actually think that makes them right. The D&D magic system is one of the few elements of the game to not really have changed over the years. tehre's a reason for that - it works; it works damn well. You can cry all you want; but it won't change the facts that D&D is one of the best; if not the best magic system out there. MW isn't even close. Neither ae most mana system. You have given no factual information except your opinion, and misinformation (see MW's so called 'millions of spells'). I have actually given examples from the D&D sourcebooks which shows that crafting D&D spells is not just guesswork. There are parts of it that is guesswork; but a lot of it isn't. That's unlike MW where it's almost all guesswork since manual and even the guidebook for it (which i had foolishly bought along with MW) are rather empty in that regard. Keep up the good work onc rying and being a hypocrite. Remember, don't accuse others of what you are guilty of unless you are ok with being a hypocrite (I gots no problem with it; apparantly you don't either). Have fun.

Ender wins!

"Morrowind was more spells." No, it doesn't. That's a myth already proven wrong. D&D also has more than 1700 spells espicially if we use the MW method of differienating spells. "For once I completely agree with Baneblade. Spell creation rules don't really exist per se. It just says you can create new spells. Wonderful. How do you know what level to put a spell at? How do you balance the spell?" By reading the books. "The number of spells however, does not determine the best magic system. It's a matter of how magic is handled. D&D magic is poor. The slot system is poor. The lack of balance is poor. The automatic casting with no dice is poor." Buzz. The slot system is the best system. It's the most balanced. The automatic catsing with no dice is awesome; but of course it's not always true since there ar eisnatcnes where dice do come into play. See wild mage, and wild magic as examples. "Magic is a means of warping the fabric of reality. That seems to get glossed over by many systems. Shadowrun and White Wolf present magic as something truly powerful, and at the same time, dangerous to the caster. A Mage isn't done for the day simply because he/she casted one spell. But any spell could be their last." D&D magic does warp the fabric of reality. D&D magic is truly powerful, and it is very dangerous to the caster. I guess you've never seena caster cats fireball on himself. And, I hope you realize, that D&D has MUTLIPLE magic systems including ones where magic can outright kill the caster; but hey, continue to pretend to know something about something you actually don't.

"Other than the table in DM's Guide page 95 which lists the Max dice pool per Spell level-> Single Target Multiple Targets 1st 5 dice / - 2nd 10 dice / 5 dice 3rd 10 dice / 10 dice 4th 15 dice / 10 dice ... ... ... ... 9th 25 dice / 25 dice Then I don't." Didn't know Darque changed user names. <_<

"Oddly enough, it is you who has a reputation for furthering absurd discussions with absurd reasons, ad nauseam. I have no intention of getting such a reputation for myself. Not because I care, but because you're not important enough to waste my time on you. You have proven to be utterly impervious to logic. Congratulations. Good night, Volo. " Eh? So? This is like what? The 10th time sicne you joined the baords you said I wasn't important enough to waste time on? I hope you pass your will svae this time. Of course, I never claimed to be important. It's you and others who always make it about me who inflate my importance. I'm just another poster on the board. Don't worry about me so much. See you tomorrow or at least your posts. -

"Please stop with the misinformation Volourn I've got almost all the DnD books on DVD and can view them at will And the only info I'm finding is EXTERMELY vague." You said that creating magic spells in D&D is compekte guess work. That isn't true. As evdience of the this guess work.. In your masses of DnD books do you recall a chart which gives a reccommened amount of damage that direct damage spells should have? Reccomened saves depending on level of spell and type? The paragrahs detailing the reccommened balanced maongst the schools ie. schools like invocation should have way more spells than a school like necromancy. This sure beats the information at hand with MW which basically comes down to trial and error. Bottom line is that D&D has thousands of spells, and multiple ways to cast them. It crushes MW with ease, and I sure as heck aren't aware of any magic system that crushes D&D in this regard. Some that compete; but wins hands down? No. D&D wins. MW loses. Game over.

"It doesn't matter what I say, you will just not accept it. I already stated why using a brand name to sell inferior quality products demeans the brand, but you just say 'no, end of thread', so there's no point in arguing with you. I'm not about to start now." BGDA was not an inferior product. Period. "Can you dispute they completely lacked a role playing element? No, you can't. Hence they sucked as RPGs." Really? You played a role. Therefore, they don't complectely lack role-playing elements. Why are saying stuff that doesn't make sense? "They were action games. Prince of Persia and GTA were both action games too. They were both infinitely better, and those are just two that came off the top of my head. Mostly any action game was better than DA. Repetitive action, repetitive gameplay, repetitive monsters. Suckage. Point proven." POP was overrtaed. Played for a bit. Not horrible by any stretch of the imagination; but not as good as BGDA. TA is good. The enwer GTAs can be cosnideed better than BGDA; but not the earlier ones. You have yet to prove that BGDA suckst hough. Keep trying. It's nice to see you embarass yourself. -
"/ignoring volourn for a second." Just for a second? Damn.. I've got to try harder. "but in general the spell creation in D&D is not very well fleshed out." depends on what you mean by fleshed out. Is there an entire book dedicated to the subject? No; but it sure beats what little info ther eis about MW's magic system to be sure. Many D&D books have aanywhere froma few pages to a good part of a chapter dedicated to creating magic spells as well as items. Nowhere near the "guesswork" that Darque is guesisng at. R00fles!
