Oh, please. not this again. The planet is not being harmed by 'too many humans' or 'too few x aniamls'. The planet will be move on barring some fantasy super weapon or some extraplanar disaster. The arrogance of humans to think we have the powetr to destroy a planet older than all of us combined is poppy****. At worst we'll send ourselves into extinction but the planet will live on.

"I find the idea that healing magic is rare appealing, however you're right, if that results in resting every five steps it would be bad." I could live with healing being 'less common' than say your typical DnD game with its dozens of healing magics but it is silly to claim that being healed while resting makes more sense then healing with magic. Kind of silly taking magic out of magic. "Maybe it can have something to do with souls. Maybe particularly combat-oriented individuals have souls that have developed ways of having bodies recover naturally at an exponentially faster rate than others, but it isn't so much "healing magic" as "recovery", meaning it isn't instantaneous and the individual still needs to rest like any other in order to get better. Mages trying to develop and research restorative magics could be doing so by examining these souls and trying to understand them. That would kind of tie in with the whole "souls are mysterious and not much are known about them" thing, as well as the lacking knowledge and rarity of healing magic. Although it's just speculation" Nah, it's a gamey thing. They don't want healing to be common so they nerf magic. It doesn't make sense that soul magic can do all sorts of stuff but can't heal a broken bone as good as sleeping. There is no logic in that. At all.

"But don't worry guys, global warming is a conspiracy." Yeah, because hurricanes are a new phemnomena. Come on. "Sandy is horrible - I don't mean to diminish the death and loss caused by it in any way." I don't believe you. Youa re just using this to do your usuall nonsensical preaching,

I'm likely to miss quite a few. And, it could change on a random day as well. Hell. 1. General Hospital 2. Buffy/Angel 3. Star Trek: The Next Generation 4. Hercules/Xena 5. Big Brother 6. Family Ties 7. Fringe

The explaination were' supposed to believe is that magic allows you to do all sorts of things from teleporting to creating fire out of thin to controlling another being's mind but healing a boo boo is impossible but if you get a little nighty night you'll be healthy again. Does not compute. I don't get this new age where people want to take the magic of magic.

KOTOR2 was a cash grab. That's why it was just a mere sequel that was merely average just like the oirginal. KOTOR2, no matter what, would never be 'best ever'. That''s a joke and an isnult to Obsidian's tow best games - FO:NV and MOTB.

How cna anyone find Varric 'boring'? He is the ebstd warven NPC ever and is a top 10 character of all time. Period. End of rhine.

Trees are fine and doable but not every game needs them. Let PE do things IE stryle since that is what it is supposed to. We don't need new skool crap lanymore sicne we already have two health bars as party of new skool stuff being thrown in

There's plent of fanservice for everyone. Hardcore mode is a fanservice. Dwarves and elves being end are a fanservice. Soul fueling magic is fanservice. Two 'health abrs' is a fan service'. Multuiple ways to complete quests are a fan service. Everything in the game is fan servuice. Why should romances and relationships be any different. I just want things that fanservice ME (romanceable dwarves and elves completely wiped out). I don't care if you other customers are fanserviced. Justa dmit that that's what these type of arguments come down to - selfish needy arrogant me first attitudes that everyone on both sides share. *shrug* Fun.

"Please realise that a lot of us against romances harken back to the original precursor titles that the developers told us were the inspiration for PE." BG2 and PST both had romances. Or have you forgotten Jaheria, Viconia, FFG, and Annah amongst others? L0L Convenient how memory works. And, anyways, what do you mean by 'originals'? PE is an original IP. there is no 'original'. To me, 'romance' is just another way to add role-playing options that give you C&C. Romances and relationshsips is one of the HUGE ways to add role-playing and C&C. This is undisputable. It's just another way to have PCs invested in NPCs. "If I thought that it would include the type of content you propose (which the originals didn't) I wouldn't have sunk a considerable amount of my money into it." Poor way to look at it since as these threads show that plenty of Obsidian fanboys (and girls) did spend money on this *because* they wants romances. Not me, not a dealbreaker for me but there ya go. Your own words destroying your whole point. You'd have been better off saying you like tunnels and want games 100% focused on tunnel fighting. P.S. A 'dating simulator' isn't needed any more than whatever. It should be part of the game not the main focus which it never has been ever in these RPGs.

NWN OC CH3. Fun underappreciated campaign. I tried playing Darklands. Has a great charascter creation scheme, and I love the dieas behind it as I spent 3 hours reading the mnaual + strategy guide 9for class/ability stuff). Love the aging rules, different way to do magic, and everything else. Sadly, started the game up and had to stop after awhile because the interface is plain crap. Horrible horrible stuff that ruins what looks to be a pretty good game. Probably get back into FO:NV soon.

"You probably don't want to get into an argument about choices and consequences in Fallout and Alpha Protocol with someone who actually knows how both games react to your decisions, Volourn: it's an argument you'd lose. " I never lose. And, now youa re trying to pretend that AP is better than FO. That makes your opinion - espciially on C&C - null and void. FO is second to none when it comes to C&C. Try again.

Volunteer Labor?

What does BIO have to do with this? It's the Obsidian forums last i checked. Don't blame BIO fanboys for Obsidian fanboys being silly. -
Volunteer Labor?
Volourn replied to PsychoBlonde's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This is silly. Why ar epeople voluntering to do something people actually get paid to do? If you want a job at Obsidian make an application or else youa re going to get paid professionals fired. If you can get volunteers to write for fre no need to pay someone like Mr. Sawyer right? Obsidian is a professional company not a charity case. To me, it is insulting to them to think you can do their job for free. -
I love ammo management and different types. Just like multiple coins and coin weight. It's more fun, and cooler, and fantatsical. It makes you have to think about your resources uinsetad ofm just go pewpew for giggles - make you think about wasting your good stuff.

The Powergaming Problem
Volourn replied to Kiarean's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Powergaming/balance should not be an issue in a SP game. I also don't believe a rogue should be the 'equal' to a mage. A mage can create stuff ouf of thin air, and a rogue.. steals stuff... Yeah, a know a rogue can do more than that but the point is clear. If someone wants to 'game' the 'system' in a SP game. Let them. Plus, that's what the hardcore options can deal with as well. -
Ability to Fly
Volourn replied to dagkurtanderson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There is nothing cool in MW. Sorry. Flying was pretty cool in M&M though b/c by the time you got it you often were facing flying creatures or spent a lot of your time inside where it was useless. -
A price to being good?
Volourn replied to Margaretha's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I don't get why people feel it is a good way to diffeentiate good and evil simply by punishing good acts with extremely severe actions. Lost of limbs, lost of treasure, and death? It's funny however , again, that in real life, good acts are often more rewarding than evil acts. No way should one be forced to 'sacrifice' themselves in order to be good. That's silly talk. It also makes things too simpleminder. Like an evil character wouldn't make a sacrifice for the cause or have the inability to care about others. Even evil people can care for others. Why so hateful towards good characters that one needs to see them punished in the most heinous of ways. I want to see an evil character with a tough choice.. ie. you see a powerful wepaon you want you need to cut off your hand and graft it onto your stump (ala Buffy the Vampire S3). Or if you want the uber necromancy spell maybe you have to sacrifice your body (con and health) loss to power it. In reverse, perhaps, the good guy heroically rescues the princess and gets the offer to marry her and./or inherit a keep. The evil guy instead works with the villains and is then hunted down by the law and best case scenario he cna no longer show his face in the kingdown or be killed therefore misisng out on a lot of stuff. Se.. works both ways... Sacrifice can hit both.- 73 replies

Horrible article and written in ignorance. If BIO went back to its roots they'd be making medical software. I don't think that's what the writer actually wants so I can't take him seriously - espicially BIO's newer games are all better than BIO's first RPG anyways. BG was fun in '98 when it came out but if they released it today it would be laughed at,

Ability to Fly
Volourn replied to dagkurtanderson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"Personally i always feel relieved when i start a game and that you can't fly in it. It simply meant i didn't confuse my RPG game with a superman one." Yeah, because a flying magic spell or a flying race is Supermanish and doesn't fit it a FANTASY game. L0L That logic don't make sense. The issue with flying is it brings its own issues to development so pros and cons have to be weighed. I love Fly. I also hope the game has spells/abilities akin to dimension door, teleport, passwall, and the like. Coolio beanio. -
Obsidian and new IPs
Volourn replied to GhoulishVisage's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
*shrug* I'm not afraid of labels and being labeled doesn't change the fatc that piracy is wrong. It was wrong when sea faring pirates did it and its wrong when digital pirates do it. -
"I think the issue is people making disparaging comments without explaining why. You'll notice that many/most of the highly 'liked' comments praising games/ideas/etc around here generally include the reasons for liking those things, not just blatant fanboyism. Differing opinions that are well-reasoned/well-explained meet with a lot better response than just "it sucked, I hate it" sorts of posts." Many likes are given out of randomly. I know I've received a few in the past for odd posts. I've given plenty of reasons of why i feel ASP is lacklustre espciially comapred to other Obsidian titles (obviously I like Obsidian or I wouldn't have paid $250 for PE a game that doesn't even exist yet so being a random hater isn't gonna fly). Check out the old AP forums for some thoughts. I'm just irked that this thread is not in the AP forum and in the PE forum. I avoid the AP forum a reason. I certainly don't want Obsidian getting the idea that AP is a popular game and use it as a sign that PE should be like it in any way. That be horrible.
