"Noting that scientific research can be flawed (though I'd adopt a less cynical take in regards to motives) is no excuse for rejecting science. Or should we throw our hands in the air and declare that the evidence around global warming is irrelevant, as it is disputed by some people?" I'd be careful labeling charts like this 'real' science. Its simialir but not quite. It's not the same as, say, putting two elements together and elarning what happens. That's science. This is 'research study'.

"Not sure I can agree with this. Unless you have connections with some sort of criminal element, I don't know if he'd be able to acquire the weapons as easily." From the reports, this attack was well planned out inadvance. From those who knew him that in spite of his mental issues he was actually quite smart - even taking college courses and doing well in them at 16 - so I'm sure as dedcaited to his cause as he apaprantly was he'd have found a way to find a weapon. Be it guns, explosives, or whatever. In fact, in this case, an argument could be amde that this would have been a worse bloodbath if his family dint give him relatively easya ccess to guns since he had the smarts to make a bomb and it was clear he loathed the entire school. He likely would have simply decided to blow the whole building up.

And, making guns illegal to own for sane law abiding citizens will not stop a crazy person from doing this. This guy broke how many current laws commiting thes eheinous crimes/ And, you think illegally gaining guns would stop him from this? No, it won't. Guns don't break laws. People break laws. People pretend that these are common occurances but they aren't. It won't stop a single mass murder. And, isn't that the supposed goal? Wasted effort that can be sued elsewhere to limit such things in the future.

Apparantly, the latets news is that he went on his rampage because he thought mommy loved her students more than him because she (finally) decided to force him to be commited through legal means. The fundamental reason for this shooting has nothing to do with guns. But, with a crazy person who just didn't understand reality (not matter how meantt or nice the people who think they knew him claimed he was).

"here's certainly evidence that spontaneous 'crimes of passion' (domestic violence primarily) and suicides are reduced by not having guns immediately available," What evidence and from who? Suicide is an issue that's been around forever and has nothing to do with guns.

"You certainly can't blame Obsidian that KOTOR II is unfinished if what Feargus Urquhart said is true." I can, and even Mr. U is man enough to admit it. He chose to go along with it. He put his organziation in that situation because he was lax contract wise. It's sad to see that Obsidian is doing the right thing and 'manning up' but their fanboys won't even allow them to do that. It's really sad.

"VI was supposed to have taken place in Wookie planet, **** him. " 'Supposed' to? He's the damn creator of the work... it's supposed to eb wherever he damn welll decides it to be. P.S. They should have gotten the actor named Jonathon Jackson to play Anakin Skywalker. He was up for the role, and it would been interesting tos ee what he could do.

"Hell, one of my COWORKERS owns one right now" Are you implying your CO WORKER is a mass murderer in waiting because he owns an assault rifle? If so, report him to the police.

Actually, the blame for Obsidian games is 100% on Obsidian. Whether that be a game I love like FO:NV or a game I loathe like AP. It is 100% Obsidian. They are the developer and every decision that is made on Obsidian's behalf is made by their CEO Mr. U and his fellow co owners. He even admits to this culpibility in said interview so whya re you trying to whitewash this? Why do you want to give Bethesda or Atari credit for the awesomeness that is NV and MOTB? That's disrespectful of Obsidian and their hard work.

"Rather than calling names and getting aggressive, I'd like to hear some constructive ideas about how we can avoid future tragedies. " For starters, target criminals and not law abiding citizens.

go for it! How quick before someone amkes a romance thread for it!?!

"The official verdict is that Breivik is not a psychopath- or at the least, not a statutorially insane psychopath- as he was found to be sane by the Norwegian court in his trial. So he, officially at least, was not mad when he committed his crimes." being legally insane and a layman's psychopath are two different things. "then you are basically saying that you don't have faith in society to keep law and order." By having a police force as well as an army you are absically saying you don't have faith in society to keep the peace on their own. See how your nonsense wotrks when twisted? In a perfect world, we wouldn't need laws outlawing murder because people wouldn't commit murder. But, people do, so we have alws. In a perfect world, we could 100% trust the law and the gov't but history and even current times has proven that isn't always the case. How many times have we heard about a police offer or gov't official abusing their power? Sorry, dude, you seem to eb the type who thinks it is okay for the gov't to have 100% control of anything. Gov't already has a lot of power. It don't need more. Quite frankly, this tragedy likely could have been avoided using current laws. Banning more types of guns and making it harder for law abiding citizens to own guns won't stop it from happening. Just ask us Kanadians about how are avrious gun bans have perfectly protected us from pyschopaths. It doesn't. EVAR.

That's actually a fantastic article. Good stuff.

"You keep coming back to that argument. The only way forward is with negotiations. (unless you find genocide an acceptable alternative) Hamas has it in it's charter, when it was started up. So they'll have to come down from that. Not talking to them isn't going to make that happen. It's just such a perfect excuse to vilify the other side and use it as an excuse for measures that don't harm Hamas but all of Palestine. " Because, you can't negoiate with someone whow ants tod estroy you. before any true peace talks can be had, Hamas has to seriously and mkenaingful step down from one of their key components of their faith. There is no truce. there is only Hamas biding its time while it builds more rockets for the enxt round of attacks. At least with the PA there is an actual real chance of negotiating soemthing meaningful but as long as Hamas has power, influence, and the support of Palestinians to wipe Isreal of the map, it will always be a losing cause. Rosteres' link is disgusting.

"Lol, Mr. Breivik is not psychopath. Most of these mass murderers are not psychopaths. Unfair society creates them again and again. Society not solving causes produces this ( oppression, exploitation, social alienation etc). It's easy to labeled everyone who discredits society as "Psychopath"." Are you really defending that piece of crap? Wow. "Breivik is typical victim of "Education system", oppressed gamma-male. Some sort of revenge to society." Typical? If he was typical ie. the normal stuff like this would happen more often. Instead, this is an extremely rare event. He's anything but typical.

"Parenting is a major issue in today's society. " No more than past society. Afterall, it's the past society's mothers and fathers who were pro racism and other nasty things. Thankfully, modern society tends to disapprove of that garbage.

Good. That person is a freak.

Viudeo is stupid. I shut it off within seconds of it trying to rpetend that ME was why BIO became so popular. Seriously, STFU, if you don't know what you are talking about.

Really need a thumbs down option for NKKK's overreaction.

"Our culture has become much more corrupted since then." L0L But, no.

"The US embraces the idea of justified killing (you could just see the jubilation when Bin Laden was killed) and just wars - and the old eye for an eye principle.Every country in the world could be considered guilty of this at some point or another, but with the US its systemic." I agree. And, I blame Britain for that. The US had to fight tooth and nail for their independence. That is now ingrained in the US where they feel if they need to fight for a cause, violence is the way to go. britain tauight them that. Comapre that to my country where our 'freedom' was handed to us basically on a silver platter. That's the biggest difference between the US and Kanada. And, it's 100% because of Britain.

"If I am a proponent of employing peaceful means, that just means I'm a modern, intelligent, civilized, decent person." I'm all for peace but both sides need to be open for peace and Hamas is not open for peace. You cannot negoiate with a side who entire goal is built on destroying the other side. As long as that is part of Hamas' 'manfiesto' they and their supporters (that includes you) cna't be taken seriously. By supporting Hamas you cna't pretend to be pro peace.
-
All that 'Isreal is evil' yet you totally ignore the fact that Hamas, a Palestinian gov't has vowed and it is written in their own official code to 'wipe Isreal' off the map'... How the ehck is Isrealm shuppsoed to react to that? As for the PA.. Yeah, they are better than Hamas. Still, keep defending Hamas and their supporters. Youn know, Hamas the Bringer of Peace. Or, how I like to refer tot hem as Hamas - Murderers of Palestinians.

"ar. Every year you kill 4 times as many of your own than that "biggest terrorist attack in history" did. You guys kill your own children and the right wing nuts will still say you need more guns to stop this.." Who is this 'you' you speak of? I'm not Amerikan. Also, depsite tragedies like this, crime rates have gone down in the US. It has gone down at a faster rate than my own country has. Gun control is not the issue. The issue is that in a country the size of Amerka there is bound to be a a few pyshcos. People point out China.. but the pyshcos there are often the ones in power. A person is responsible for mjurdeirng those people today. Not a gun. P.S. Sorry if I got the country wrong. You Euros all look alike espicially with the whoel ' strict gun laws will styop evil people from doiing evil things' nonsense.. L0LZ People have been murdering people en masse will before the first gun existed, and even if every single gun was destroyed the mass murdering will continue.
