You contradict yourself in a few places: - you say this is a tanky build, but you recommend Hearth Orlan, whose ability is essentially more damage - you list humans as good choice, but their Fighting Spirit simply adds damage. - island Aumaua useless ? In description of Confident Aim, you say you can swap weapons for better accuracy. What about a fighter which opens with an Arquebus shot, then goes into melee with a large shield, and switches to small shield or no shield if more damage is needed ? Finally, I don't understand why do you spend so much time discussing attributes. The only thing the bonuses really affect is MAXIMUM attribute level, because you can reallocate stats. For instance I have a Coastal Aumaua monk with 10 Might, despite having +2 Might bonus. Is this a roleplaying guide ?

Ranger should get an overhaul

Speaking of Sagani and her fox, has anyone heard the -
One thing you fail to mention when considering Brute Force is that fortitude can be lowered. Too bad Barbarian doesn't have any passive abilities which lower nearby enemies' fortitude by 20 if they fail a will save. If there was such an ability, barbarian would have a twisted way of using Brute Force on enemies low will.

Actually, Grieving Mother is the only companion you can make LEAVE your party due to despicable acts ! Sagani doesn't do as much as raising an eyebrow. She's very pragmatic, down to earth, as needed to survive in tundra. Beat people up, ally with criminals, kill someone for a drug discount, no comments. Kana does have issues with killing someone just because he's in the way. . Sagani, while cute, seems to accept that life is brutal. She believes in survival. I don't think she makes a single morality-based comment in the game. Even when you . Companions which make morality-based comments: - Eder - Grieving Mother - Kana - Aloth - Hiravius - Durance, wondering if he's done the right thing Notable absences: - Sagani - Pellegrina

What's the rate of fire for scepters ? The word "scepter" doesn't appear anywhere in this thread (until this point)! This is very important to me, I want to build a ranged monk. Also, scepter has better damage types than a rod. All tables and comparisons I can find (reddit, this forum) are without implements.

Lie a Rhemen bonuses

You get the access to Lle a Rhemen anyway. If you don't stick with the Dozens, you stumble upon opened Lle a Rhemen, with dead adventurer corpses inside. -

So, the plot.

Not necessarily. Scientology is a "religion" made up by a sci-fi writer. But its proponents refuse to accept that a sci-fi writer could have made up a religion. Because they BELIEVE. They don't care it's a religion conceived by someone who wrote fantastic stuff for living. If anything, it doesn't go well for people criticizing Scientology. They are harassed. However, there are more dangerous implications of proving gods are created than someone has his religious feelings offended. 1. People can get the idea to kill more gods. This is already no big mystery that it can be done, although Eder speculates that Eothas might have survived. 2. People can get the idea to create their own gods. Gods of Eora are limited in what they can do. Gods say it's a pact between them, but it could be Engwithan programming. Either way, new gods created by animancy may not have this limitation. Things could get out of control. The gods in PoE don't strike me as very... smart. I mean, you can kill the Sky Dragon after learning it has its young there. Then you can come to Hylea, whose one aspect is motherhood, and convince her to leave the dragon at the temple. It's as if Hylea doesn't have an idea what her job is. She doesn't have a strong opinion on this ! If other PoE gods are as clueless as this, and I don't see a convincing reason they aren't, why would they be worth worshiping ? It doesn't matter if they're created or not. -
Can you push your companions too far ?
b0rsuk replied to b0rsuk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
In BG1 companions had the personality of cardboard cut-outs so it didn't disappoint. Minsc stood out not just because he was crazy, but also because he was good in combat. And while BG1 companions didn't care about specific actions, they would rebel if your reputation rose or sank too much. Evil companions would eventually rebel and had to be fought. -
Ranger should get an overhaul

While we're on pets, it feels Wrong to put surplus pets in a chest at stronghold. It should be possible to release them in the stronghold where they could roam free, or even release them in the wild. This forum doesn't have a Feature Request section, does it ? I have a few pages of notes in my notebook. I don't know where to post them. -
Wizards have to be really careful about which spells to use... and that's bad ? If you want a fairly mindless adrenaline rush, I recommend Nuclear Throne. Just curious, what's the camping supplies limit on Easy ? On Normal it's 4. I'm playing on Hard now, limit is 2, and I haven't run out of supplies ever yet. By the time I spend some, I find some more.

I'm playing a monk in padded armor and punching people. I'm still far ahead the rest of the pack, and that includes Aloth with his area spells and Grieving Mother with Ectopsychic Echo. This is on Hard. Spamming Torment's Reach is one viable strategy, but a monk can be a front line disabler and still deal very high damage. People who insist on spamming Torrent's Reach are narrow-mindedm as PotD fans often are.

Ibanix, are you sure Sagani is doing badly in your team ? She's not flashy, but can deal reliable damage. Check out character screens and compare "Personal...damage dealt". In my first party Sagani was doing as much damage as Hiravius. I got them both at the same time, and Hiravius was using lots of area damage spells.

Least Liked Companions
b0rsuk replied to Primislas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'm holding off voting until I finish my second playthrough with the remaining companions. It pains me to say this, because she's cute and just my type, but Sagani is quite dull as a character. Her quest has her babbling about Persoq and her village, very monotonous. She doesn't really bring an interesting point of view, doesn't seem to have a distinct philosophy. Just an inuit-flavored dwarf. She never surprised me in anything. She had an interesting comment in the Knights of the Crucible quest, I think that's all. Sagani is not bad mechanically, in my first party she dealt as much damage as Hiravius, who was often using area damage spells. I like Hiravius, which probably says a lot about me. While he's also a "savage", his philosophy shines through and he approaches stuff differently based on his beliefs. He also seems too smart for his average intelligence. Eder is likeable, but over time can get annoying. At times he's trying too hard to be a bro. And he needs a shoulder to cry on. Has anyone read "Blade Itself" by Joe Abercrombie ? The trilogy does a good job contrasting "savage" people with highly populated cities and urban civilization. -
Can you push your companions too far ?
b0rsuk replied to b0rsuk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
That's when I reloaded after luring the girl to gruesome death. I want to experience all the remaining companions on my second playthrough. --------------------------- I understand why they did this - why companions don't give a damn. So that player has more freedom without losing companions. But there's a middle ground. Doing something a companion despises could cause a temporary debuff to that companion, "bad mood" or similar. When I say "temporary", I mean passage of time would be measured in xp, much like it works with Stronghold. That way you couldn't trivially wait it out, you'd have to play for a while with a weakened companion. It would give you a minor reason to care about their opinions, but wouldn't punish very harshly by making the companion leave. -
Easter Eggs (and other secrets?)
b0rsuk replied to mungomunk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The vision when you kill the priest is necessary to finish the game, because you can't finish it if you don't go to the ruins. The priests tell you where to go. If you talk to the bard in Dracogen Inn, he will tell a tale about a wizard's quarterstaff being lost in costruction of the inn. -

Hiravias' table manners. The comment on Brighthollow fountain takes the cake. I really like the dude as a companion, especially his battle cries. -
On my second playthrough, I'm roleplaying a really nasty and treacherous character. To my surprise, my companions (Kana, Pellegrina, Aloth, Sagani, Grieving Mother) barely care. So far, I've only been able to make Grieving Mother leave. I expected her to react in this way, and wasn't disappointed. Are there any actions which can horrify other party members ?
