I always thought that Darth came from the word dearth. But maybe i'm wrong. And while we're on the subject of lacking, I personally like Darth Cheney or Darth Rumsfeld, his Sith apprentice.
-
Where did you hear this? I must've missed something. And I would vote no on this simply because there was no precedent set in the first KOTOR for such a change in character. Plus, they would have a hard time explaining how you, Bastila, Juhani, AND Jolee, AND the entire Jedi Council on Dantooine did not sense a single ounce of the Force in Mission when she was there. So within this context, I would say with near certainty that this is not going to happen.

I'm still waiting to see a Yoda-type Sith Lord.

New Light Saber Colours?
Darth Jebus replied to Naver Drol This's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Speaking of gay...what the hell is Teal? -
here's hoping or maybe the sith had him stuffed and mounted, and you'll encounter his head on the wall of a sith hunting lodge somewhere. I cannot begin to express my level of utter contempt for Jolee. Not only was he a poor combatant, but he was the NPC with the longest friggin sidequest to complete. It was sooo ridiculous. Every NPC had something, but after Jolee's little Sunry's case, he just goes on and on and on, FINALLY comparing you to a snake or something, and then your mercifully done with him. I took GREAT pleasure in killing him repeatedly when I was playing DS. I mean, it got to the point where it bordered on tedium. And in combat situations, I relegated Jolee to just the Party Healer. I would just que him up on Heal while me and Juhani or whoever else would do all the fighting. I know he was old, but damn.

Make the Dark Side more seductive!
Darth Jebus replied to Ivan the Terrible's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I would tend to disagree with this. The "decomposition" of the body is not evidence of poor fighting skills, but rather an indication of the physical toll the Darkside exerts on those who have fallen to it's path. In fact, one could argue that the reason you begin to look whithered is due to the sheer power coursing through your veins. It's like midichlorians on steroids. -
What have past romances done right/wrong?
Darth Jebus replied to Ivan the Terrible's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm all about the romance in PS:T. It's implications were deep. It's the whole subtlety and the notion of less is more is what I really liked about it. -
:D :D :D

i used the bald black guy once because he kinda reminded of Mace Windu. he looked good in the black robes, too B)

You "forgot" to use the force? oh, come on....
Darth Jebus replied to Meshugger's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Just as long as I don't have to wait inexorably long to get my lightsabre back. The cool thing about Jedi Academy is that you started the game as a Jedi. If I wanted to be a soldier or a scoundrel our something like that, I'd play a different game. I'f I'm playing something titled Jedi Knight, or Knights of the Old Republic, I want to start that way. -
they're gonna have to start marking some of these forums with a "you must be 18 or older" disclaimer to enter. It appears the thread is Thailand slaves, hookers, transvestites, and soft porn. Which can be utterly fascinating in it's own rite.

i always preferred the girl with black hair over her face and the pony tail. whether i was playing ls or ds. she looked uber-cool in Revan's robes, with those red eyes glaring at everyone...she looked like a witch. and yeah, it'd be cool if we got to pick his/her face for continuity reasons, even he/she only has a cameo.

The Munchkin One? -
one of my favorite all time games . but i expected to get the crap beaten out of me in that one. :D
-
Exactly. Look, I don't mind if they make it more challenging, but it shouldn't be ridiculously challenging to the point it is nearly impossible to progress. I hate it when they overcompensate and make your opponents TOO tough. I've ran into that before in other games. Be challenging but not so challenging it borders on the stupid. And, I, too, thought the difficulty was just right for this game. This was not Halo. You played this game for the story and the immersion in that story and the experience of playing it. If you're looking to be challenged combat-wise play something else.

I agree with you, man. I've been harping on this since I registered here. The best example of this morally grey area in the Star Wars univers that I can think of is the story of Ulic Qel-Droma. I thought it was well written and developed. But like I side in another thread that you had started a while back....I think because of it's label, I don't know how dark or grey it's going to be allowed to get.

What do you think the twist(s) will be in KOTOR II
Darth Jebus replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Before Star Wars was even Star Wars, the script got completely written a million times over a nine year stretch. The early versions of the script were titled "Journey of the Whills". The Whills were inspired by Dune (as was the whole script) and they had mythical power from the Spice. The idea of the Force evolved from this over the years. I've never seen anything in modern day Star Wars acutally mention these Whills from early scripts though. Also, Lucas got too much credit for fore-sight that he didn't really have. Jabba the Hutt was portrayed by a human actor, and the alien/Hutt concept was a late addition over the years. Han Solo actually died in ANH in several scripts. The Luke/Leia brother/sister concept first appeared in late drafts of Return of the Jedi. Qui-Gon was supposed to appear in Episode 2. Lucas also changed his mind on a Biggs Darklighter plotline, a plotline involving Padme's family, and a plotline involving Bail Organa. Lucas waffles like a Belgian. I think it was actually Journal of the Whills. And I think Macy Windy was the main character. No? -
What do you think the twist(s) will be in KOTOR II
Darth Jebus replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
This has probably been thought of already, but maybe that white Jedi lady is actually a Sith Lord in disguise, who has found you and is pretending to work with you until you can lead her and her master to whatever it is the main quest is in KOTOR 2. The fact that you develop some kind of relationship with her underscores that mentor-apprentice relationship that Chris and the other devs is saying is the main theme of SL. Or maybe that Jedi lady used to be that masked Sith Lord's apprentice and is now trying to stop him/her, or better yet...maybe they're the same person. -

T3 is the Dark Lord. -
Well I think its more along the lines of the Force(and the Jedi) helps those that help themselves. When the Wookies finally decided that enough was enough, and they finally didn't want to be slaves anymore, the Jedi were willing to help them out. Any sooner, and they'd just be viewed as meddlers into something that was an internal Wookie affair. Good point. And if I could just add to this whole darkside debate, I really don't know if Obisidian is going to make the darkside more sophisticated in KOTOR 2. I mean, I REALLY hope they do. Heck, I even started a thread on this topic a couple weeks ago. But the problem is, I think the devs have to think about kids. They have to kind of think, "What would an 8 year old boy think would be cool?" Thus, we get the Johnny Quest/Saturday morning cartoon villains. I'm not sure that the devs have geeks like me in mind as their target audience, though I truly hope I'm wrong. I think we have to remember that LucasArts has the final say of what gets put out, and Lucas is on record as saying that Star Wars is for kids. If KOTOR 2 was strictly a PC game and not an Xbox game as well (which by the way, I've only played the game on Xbox and only intend on playing KOTOR 2 on the Xbox) then we might get more sophisticated villains. I just think because of the Star Wars label the devs and the powers that be have to be wary of the image and can't make anything to serious, lest they risk alienating their target audience and don't turn a large enough profit. Which is ultimately the bottom line. As much as I'd like to see a true Sith, I don't know if we're going to see one.

Yeah, but that's being evil for kicks. There's no benefit, either in terms of ease or reward. In the case of Manaan, the poison option is just plain stupid, since you piss off a world with a very useful resource. There should be some sort of option for evil characters to pick a 'good' option because it makes sense. And if I could take that a step further, you don't even get any darkside points for doing that. Kolto was something the Sith Empire needed just as much as the Republic. It was the only card the Selkath had to play that kept them from being completely wiped out by the Sith, or subjegated by the Republic. Keeping the wookies as slave labor was kinda dark, but in hindsight, I don't even think the Jedi would try to free the slaves unless it just somehow served their purpose. The Jedi seemed to have a laissez-faire attitude towards all cultures. It's almost like a Prime Directive sort of thing. Remember Qui-Gon's line in TPM about freeing slaves? It wouldn't seem that a Sith of Revan's caliber would ever do something reckless like poisoning the kolto supply, unless it somehow served his or her's agenda.

I also think that it would be cool to learn more about the Sith and their heritage because we already know so much about the Light side. But the part about how the Sith really are not that evil? Is killing millions of people such as on Taris not that evil?? I much rather think of them as evil. They should allow you in the game to kill anyone for any reason much like a real Sith would. That would be the best way to teach the Sith heritage. By the way I'm much more partial to the Sith than the Jedi. My only real problem with KOTOR 1 was the fact that Malak seemed so cliche, ya know? The destruction of Taris was kind of goofy in my book. I know he had the Star Forge at his back, but he just wasted all those resources because he was mad that he couldn't find Bastila. That seemed childish. That would have been like Sidious saying to the Viceroys: Sidious: "Queen Amidala...has she signed the treaty?" Nute Gunray: "One...Naboo cruiser got past our blockade and escaped..." Sidious: (growls) "I want that treaty signed! So when you find her...destroy the entire planet!" But we all know that's not what happened. Sidious coolly states that it may be impossible for "mere mortals" to find Padme's ship, but not for the Sith. He then sends out his SITH ASSASSIN to find her. Annihilating Taris, just strictly from a strategic standpoint made no sense whatsoever. If finding Bastila is what your ENTIRE AGENDA hinges on, then why would you destroy the world she's suspected to be on and risk killing her and never having her Battle Meditation? This actually made Malak LOSE darkside points in my book. Like Drakron said, this was just idiotic, not necessarily evil. Can you imagine Revan doing something like that? Malak was just sociopathical.

Hey, all. I thought I would start a thread that could somehow tie in and address the other stickies we've seen so far regarding that all important dark side, and how it could be improved for KOTOR 2 and even expanded upon. First off, I'm probably one of the few fans out here that PREFERS the ancient history of Star Wars over the movies, and prefer it much more than the post ROTJ universe, which deals with the Remnant and all that. I think I prefer it because I'm such a mythology junkie and I spend so much time reading the world's various myths and legends. I think the battle between the Dark Lords and the Jedi Masters forms the very heart of the Star Wars universe, and is what defines and refines Star Wars, both as an entertainment medium and as a modern day mythology. Thus, I'm geeked as hell for KOTOR 2. I think it has a great opportunity to really expand on the legend of the Sith and give both fans and the uninitiated alike an in-depth look at the darkside - after all look at the subtitle! About five years ago, the official Star Wars website came out with a column that quoted The Flanneled One himself talking about where the Sith came from and what makes them tick. You probably all know this, but the title of the column was "The Architect of the Sith". In there he talked about the last great battle between the Brotherhood of the Sith and the Jedi Army of Light, where Darth Bane was the only surviving Sith and started the Rule of Two. Lucas was quoted as saying that internecine fighting is what ultimately brought the Sith down and that being a Sith was kind of liking having a disease..."the Emporer was trying to get rid of Vader and Vader was trying to get rid of the Emporer." So, basically the darkside is like an epidemic, in that it infects the host, the host attacks the invader and the invader attacks the host and everything dies. My favorite part of KOTOR 1 was going to Korriban. I loved it. You get a glimpse of the Darkside and learn of the Sith Code. So, in an effort to make the darkside more sophisticated and really improving it for KOTOR 2, I thought it'd be kewl if we get to KNOW the Sith and their history on a much deeper and intimate level, and how in actuality they are NOT so evil after all. This would make your moral choice or choices in KOTOR 2 much more poignant and indicative of that eternal struggle between light and dark. Thereby improving your darkside expierience in the game. Because remember...."your focus determines your reality." And with '05 shaping up to be the year of the Sith..with Episode III coming out a few months after the game, I though it'd be nice to have a forum where the Sith can come talk openly for a change.

I don't know if this has been asked or not, but it's kind of a silly question. But...could you please do something about those other NPC's that CONTINUALLY WALK IN BETWEEN you and another character when you're trying to have a conversation. These NPC's walk in between, around and in front of you constantly while you're trying to talk to somebody else. You should've seen my futile attempts to try to kill these NPC's as they just wouldn't GO AWAY. The constant pitter-patter of their footsteps while you are trying to focus on something else was enough to drive me straight to the darkside.

Dark Side REALLY needs work for KOTOR II
Darth Jebus replied to Ivan the Terrible's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yeah, but that only holds up as an explanation so far. When my character was laughing and cheering as the Sandrals and Matales slaughtered each other, right in front of Bastila, I think the council would have been a little more wary about sending me off to find the Star Forge, no matter how desperate they were. Exactly! And as for Drakron's points, I agree that the Council did what they did out of desperation, but the thread in this forum is developing a Dark Side that REALLY works for KOTOR 2. I think what everyone is saying (at least what I was trying to say), is that the REACTIONS should have been more realistic since you're slaughtering, maiming, and laughing your way to Sith glory. Not to mention looking like something out of RESIDENT EVIL. But I thought you made some good points
