4. quest and journal system. I like journal system for example when i play a game a week later i know where i let things last time. I'm not a big fan (not at all) of game that requires me to scribe down on paper to be able to play it normally. How the journal system is a way to dumb down a RPG (genuine question) ? I agree with the rest though and the cake metaphor too (gotta love or hate these metaphors...)

Can someone resume for me (please) the main reasons why people here have a problem with the wizards in PoE ? (or do i have to read all the 15th pages...) And yeah i know people say they suck but why ?
-
I guess I don t need to remind anyone that the BB is just a slice of the actual game- imagine the ****load of bugs that exists in the full version, and will not get addressed until AFTER release. You're making me anxious. I think there are some ways for them to extrapolate from the B.B reports to patch the full game.

What better ways ? I'm all eyes (it's a genuine question and concern). I really want to know more about sticky mechanics (i am still traumatized by a grouilleux who bypassed 4 warriors of mine to kill my weakened spell-less wizard in BG1) !

Combat XP - What Just Happened..?
Sir Newbie replied to Immortalis's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
With each patch it gets closer and closer to combat xp. If the current trend continues; combat xp will be in the game. ouch... Let's hope they will not take away the engagement mechanics and not drift away from their original intentions, i don't want a clone of DnD system. -
Here are the loading screens. Damn the loading screens sure look nice !!
-
That would have been nice if the developers did a bit (i insist on the "bit") like fallout 2 with feats that makes you more diplomatic, or be able to carry more stuff... I will insist no more thanks Karkarov for the response (and yeah i understand the tactical advantages of fighting in a room with the traps disarmed...).
-
Damn me and my bad engrish. Just to be more clear, when i use the term "skill" i was thinking more about feats, talents all but mechanics/athletics/lore...(even if there were included in my head...) Yay, now that i'm way more clear than before, hum, so there aren't non-combat feats/talents in the actual build ?
-
I don't much about the beta (i am not a backer) but the thing i'm worried about is that some backers say there are no distinction between combat skills and non-combat skills. What i mean is apparently (not a backer remember just reporting what some backers say) with the merging you have to sacrifice non-combat skills to choose combat skills and vice-verso. In my humble (remember not a tester) opinion i prefer when those two are separated that way at every level you can have a character able in combat (which is still a main aspect of the game) without sacrificing the role-play elements. Hope someone agree with me...

Thank you people for parasitizing this thread with your off-topic discussions. There are plenty of other threads to argue about specific points of the game or to criticize the game too. I will give my two-cents and show a bit of support. Thanks you developers for reviving this genre and making some changes at the same time. Kept the engagement mechanics, the no-bad build objective, your distance with DnD systems, the weapons system. Thanks you again and i wish you plenty of luck for the project.

The Official Romance Thread
Sir Newbie replied to Blarghagh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No i'm horrified ! And to think that some children dream about swimming with one... -
Lephys and Silent Winter I am sorry for my silly question (about the spelling of replayability) but in the same time i'm glad that it didn't take me more than 20 posts to initiate a debate in this forum (small surely and not very crucial but i take it). I feel i belong to the world of Internet now...

Please, No Lockpick or Trap-Disarm XP!
Sir Newbie replied to PrimeHydra's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
For no reason i laughed hard on that one : I was just imagining : Lord of the castle : "Fetch me some wine from the cellar" Servants looking awkwardly at each other : "But Lord the traps..." The Lord :"My wine and fast!" Servants looking at the rogue : "Ah come on! Every times ! Every *censure* times" and crying over his benevolent personality "and for god's sake why did i train in stealth and not in mechanics"...- 118 replies

Do you get Attributes on Level Up?
Sir Newbie replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Did the developers give their voice on that matter ? -
Please, No Lockpick or Trap-Disarm XP!
Sir Newbie replied to PrimeHydra's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
This thread is so biased that i want to pick yes just to be annoying though i too don't really approve of unlock/disarm trap xp.* You don't have to worry it seem that the majority of players don't want it, so no need to control the mass by sneaky polls... *i mean (no offense hein! just being silly) the title of the thread and the title of the poll- 118 replies

Just another post to say (and because i don't like the number 13, i am not superstitious i just think bad things can happens to you when you don't observe certain rules hum) that i am even concerned about the spacing of the chrono-quest, automatic-quest, the mandatory type of secondaries quest. I don't dislike them but they have to be set up just right, this type of quest can easily break the sense of immersion or take the fun out of a game. Like Lephys mentioned it is a great way to limit a quest not by a chronometer but by the completion or not of others quests. you get the feeling of emergency within the story without the pressure (i suck at control or coordination between my eyes and my hands) of playing fast.

I like the transparency of Mr. Sawyer, especially when it comes to game design (his intentions behind the project) or his idea of a good game. One can say that is something we can witness more often since the multiplication of Kick starter projects and indie companies. But his honesty (the fan in me would call it professional courtesy toward his backers) seem to play against him in regard of the not-so-rare threads in which his statements are criticized/nitpicked. (I would like to see just a little more objectivity in the titles of those thread by the way.) I appreciate the middle way that Mr. Sawyer seem to be taking, i mean a bit of good from the IE game less the bad, you know the KS pitch. If one can argue against the successful realization of it (not me eh, i mean look at my name), one can say this is the most effective way to gain a consensus between the players. BG and BG2 are radically different area map designs some like the first more other would prefer the second. A "just between" seem to be a very reasonable choice for me. And finally my humble opinion : i love the fairly high number of quests in BG2 but what hurts the replayability (someone tell me how i can spell this freaking word) are their spacing in the story. Every plays it takes me a huge amount of time (in-game and hum "out-game") to complete the majority of quest in chapter 2 and 6, for the record a bit less of a year (in-game eh!) before liberating my tortured half-sister or getting back my soul. No i don't spam-rest ("newbie" remember). It breaks my sense of immersion. I don't like that some secondaries quests are mandatory (the denalia quest) specially when there are so much more quests to do. I hate the chrono trigger quest for the npc (idk if you will understand me) in your team. I don't like (where there are so much quests) that some npc come directly to you to spam you with quests. I hope PoE will take the middle way : a just spacing of quest (i don't mind a huge number of quest of course!) through the chapters (to get the feeling of immersion), a bit of empties wilderness areas (to get the feeling of exploration), a bit of dense urban areas (to get the feeling of a crowed zone), a good amount of "right" density between BG1 and BG2 (to avoid the feeling of getting spammed or being the only to be able to resolve all the problems). I like being stimulated just right all the way along the story (that came out wrong please don't read that), i mean Horse hit the spot (wrong again, bear with me), i mean he got a point. I shut up now.

Combat XP - What Just Happened..?
Sir Newbie replied to Immortalis's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Is there a peaceful way to defeat the spider queen? I don't play the BETA and the only ironic thing in my pseudo is "Sir" but maybe you can (or the dev. can implement that or not) negotiate if you are some weird druid/clerc from some obscure cult (i am thinking about BG1 and that cave in the forests and BG2 and that cave in the catacombs). Negotiation or subjugation or charm etc. Just being silly don't mind me.
