  1. There's nothing wrong with saving in battle. First of all casual gamers need it. Second of all it would have made Bendak impossible to beat without leveling up which was f*ed up because getting to level 8 before finally getting a Jedi level is screwed up. So you never know when it may prove useful in KOTOR2. I like to think of it as getting really lucky in a fight. Oh and I know that's why I said Bendak is the toughest. Because everyone stays at level 2 but still wants to do that quest.
  2. Then why'd you bother posting all that boring crap about your life? Is that supposed to change his mind? Am I going to have to see your biography everytime someone flames your article? God I hope not. If what you say is true. A silly little flame shouldn't have led to you saying here let me tell you all about myself. Oh by the way. I didn't say no one cares about your editorial. I said no one cares about where you go to college or how you got there. Is that why you did post it? Because of some positive feedback? "Oh you like me! Want to be my friend? ill tell you all about myself." Either you are a narcissist or you crave attention.
  3. It used to bother me until Deus Ex came along. Before I didn't think it was possible. Now I have an open mind.
  4. Arcanum let you talk the main villain out of his plan though you needed insane persuade ability. That was kewl. But options like these are only presented in games where the main story is rather shallow. Not so kewl.
  5. I think most people on the board probably have read it and liked it. Myself included.
  6. Actually I don't want to have a future in Journalism. To tell you the truth, I'm a freshmen in college (18 years of age) where I attend Kansas University. I'm majoring in Computer Science and I'm on a full ride athletic scholarship for Track & Field where I was All-Conference in the Big XII Indoor Track & Field Championships and I was a NCAA Nationals Qualifyer. I work for TFN cause its the #1 SW site on the net (Besides SW.com) and I'm highly interested in SW. I also work for playmoreconsoles.com a multi-console website. I have strong PR ties with LucasArts so can set up interviews from LA and it's developers as well as get free reviewable copies of a game. In the future (Like this summer) I plan on conducting an interview with some people from Obsidian about KOTOR 2, and interview that you all will also be able to read and gain more knowledge about KOTOR 2. This editorial I wrote is just a crack at what might our could be the events that leads up to KOTOR 2 using the LS ending from KOTOR. If you dont' like it, well thats just you. I'm not looking to win a Pulitzers prize from this, I just want to give fans of KOTOR/KOTOR 2 (People like you) something to read up on. If you like it, great and expect the part two to that article using the DS ending of KOTOR. If you don't, well fine. First of all no one cares. Second of all you posted your article in a forum. What did you expect? You could have written the next LOTR and you'd still get someone who says that. Don't post if you can't take the heat.
  7. Yes good points. I thought Redemption was a bit of a dissapointment and didn't bother picking up ToEE. However since Redemtion wasn't made by Troika and ToEE was failed from the beginning (in my mind) I am not so worried about this. What made me wary was the FPS system their using. Sure it is Valve's Source engine but the only FPS I've ever liked with RPG elements was Deus Ex. But when I heard they were only giving XP for quests I was sold. I've been advocating that idea for years so I personally just HAVE to see how it pans out. As for being faithful to white wolf... I qoute "The game's story was developed by Troika, but it is closely intertwined with White Wolf's Time of Darkness novels about "Gehenna," the end of the world. In fact, the story has been officially accepted into the canon, and White Wolf considers Bloodlines to be the prequel to the books." Found here... http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/vtmb/preview_6089715.html And just a very good preview of the game though a bit redundant... http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/vampire-the-masqu...s/513126p1.html But basically all this means is that so far I am sold and I will be buying the game unless some truly shocking news comes along. Same goes for KOTOR. I don't view either as the end all and be all of games though.
  8. Well the thing is even though the animations don't show it you are doing things differently. Obviously it would be stupid to keep doing the power attack animation or flurry in real life but this is not going to change. It's just not worth it. Vader has a very heavy handed style and he is one of the most powerful Sith ever. So it's really not a big deal. Anyways this is not the problem. The real problem is simply how easy combat is. If fights were really hard and you had to run, throw a grenade, shoot him when stunned and run to survive you could care less about this. Only hard fight in the whole game is Bendak Starkiller as a level 2 scoundrel.
  9. Well Im a bigger geek for realizing the cheapest and most cost effective way to destroy a planet in any sci-fi universe. Grab a big rock and hurl it at them. Unless of course they have orbital defenses that could stop the threat no matter how big the meteor is. That's why you need the Death Star.
  10. The engine isn't limiting at all in making skills useful. It was just poor design implementation. But the Devs have said they are working on fixing skills. And the little we've heard all seems to be the right steps to take.
  11. Can't compare current weaponry to massive orbital gunships with laser weapons buddy. And we do have nukes. No reason the SW universe wouldn't have weapons as powerful but without the side effect. In some books thermal detonators seem to have the range and power of a nuclear bomb actually. Anyways I think the issue has been clarified. They could never turn a planet to ash like the death star but they could grab rocks and throw them at planets. One big one is all youd need to wipe out all life. This is the simplest way. Or unleash a massive orbital bombardment that razes the planet but does not obliterate it.
  12. I'd rather just blame Lucas for losing control of his own creation. All interesting info I didn't really know though. I'm not debating the technicalities of canon. Sure anything he wants to write is technically canon. Just pointing out that thinking any fans are in any way obligated to follow the canon he creates and not another author or idea is not facing reality. If Lucas wants to slap fans in the face with Midichlorians and a punk as slittle bitch for Vader of course he has that right. But you won't find any fans springing up from it. On the contrary he'll lose some. And when you have too few fans your universe crumbles and canon doesn't really matter if no one is reading or watching. As for fans not knowing canon I've known some SW psychos that knew so much about the SW universe it's real and fictional side it scared me deeply. I wonder if you are one of those people. If so I've always been a bit curious about the real history of SW. Specifically I've heard lots of conflicting information on how much help GL had in creating the OT. Can you clarify please.
  13. Unfortunately they were. Very dissapointing since I love playing scoundrels. Hence my starting this topic.
  14. ALWAYS buy the PC version as long as your computer is up to it. Any content on x-box liv will obviously be available for the PC version. They aren't going to piss off that many fans.
  15. I'm assuming you're interested then in Vampire TM Bloodlines? Obsidian is lucky it isn't coming out on X-box since I think the game looks very promising? What do you think?
  16. Damn talk about raising the dead. If I didn't know better I'd think I was shamelessly bumping this thing. But yeah I like your ideas. I think people forget though the lightsaber is obviously going to own any encounter with a single blaster wielding enemy. Can't be knocked back when they are deflecting the shot.
  17. HA! That's the biggest mistake any creator can make! At some point it becomes about the fans. At the end of the day it has to be about the fans or whatever you make will go down the toilet. If the OT had been like the prequels he would be a nobody. The fans are what make you a success. And if every fan tells you what an idiot you are to make the force biological instead of mystic but you do it anyways you are a FOOL. We control SW now. GL is completely superflous. Sure he will always control any legal content that tries to make money. But when we sit around and play SW D20 we get to play it whatever way we want. If GL was so gunho about the prequels he should have kept a closer eye on the books he was stamping. Approving books on Boba Fett and getting the money from us fans that bought and enjoyed it and then deciding to ignore every single one and write your own version makes you an ****. Actually anything made officially with SW has their support(o they'd be sued) which means it is canon. See my above post for why this pisses me off. Either GL is a greedy bastard who planned on making his own version the whole time but gave his support and approval to books dealing with the SW timeline or he is just plain careless. Either way he should have adopted those versions he approved or simply been more strict on what he stamped.
  18. I think that's a little assumptive. As far as PC RPG's go, I think there are plenty great games in the works. As far as console RPG's so, KOTOR:2 is the game to beat. Yeah but that's not saying much. What console RPG is it's competition? Maybe it will be better than I expect. I am just very wary. They seem more intent on adding new stuff before fixing what was wrong in the old stuff. Anyways I think most people are like me and cannot afford to buy every game that comes out. And I have PS2 Xbox and a computer so there is some multiplatform competition here. If a better PC RPG is out at the same time I will buy that over KOTOR2.
  19. I'm not going into an argument on what defines "good" behavior. It is NOT just a matter of organisation. As you point out in the rest of your post Luke has a whole different outlook on how the NJO should be set up. This is a fundamental difference and any fundamental difference you make to any organisation will change the way that organization operates. The best example being Luke gets rid of that BS of not being allowed to love and marry. Like I have't talked to Jolee? I've had every conversation with him. He is a NEUTRAL Jedi. He defied the council's wishes and taught his wife. He was a smuggler and believed in breaking laws to help people. Good Republic laws no less. The worst thing people do is paint the Jedi as virtous paladins and Sith as anti-paladins. They can be so much more. It should be about the individual not the group. I'm sorry was he being a Jedi when he was screaming in rage and beating Vader down? Or taking out Jabba the Hutt who according to an argument you make in this post does have the right to have Han imprisoned. I'll grant you he had barely any formal Jedi training but he's still using the force. But he doesn't go to the dark side and join Vader. Why not? I've read a few books. Seen the EU. Roleplayed a little. Forgive me for liking complexity and real human emotion when I RP. Well obviously I totally agree with this. Jedi should be independent agents. I said as much in my post. HA! Sorry but this is the dumbest argument ever. What about the Sith's culture? Hmmm? I have the right to do so because their culture is wrong! That's right it's wrong. Just as wrong as the Sith slaughtering anyone they wview as weaker than thmselves. How in the hell can the Jedi motto be to do good bt we wont fight evil unless it comes a knocking on our door and tries to kill us? A hero does not accept the world around him. He fights to change it for the better. You want to argue slavery isn't evil to the Jedi? If they are supposed to do good with their powers as they were told by the caamasi then how is it going to make Obi and Quigon darksiders to save one frigging woman from slavery? Is Luke wrong to go save Han? He did owe Jabba money. Jabba probably had the right to do whatever he wanted to him under Hutt law. Same to anyone that tried to free him. Moral relativity is a joke. And if the Jedi ever started following it it is no wonder they became the pansys they are in EP1 and 2. You think it was ok for the Romans to have slaves? Bet those slaves didn't think so. What about their culture and rights? That's disgusting for you to try and defend slavery in any form. Even if it is simulated. Oh but the Romans frowned on treating them poorly in public. That makes it ok. It was only frowned on because it meant you couldn't control your slave. And as Jolee says (maybe YOU didn't talk to him) that's a big mistake. Their human beings. No amount of training or brainwashing is going to turn them into Vulcans(though even they don't always have full control over their emotions). No wonder Jedi always fall to the dark side. It's hard to fight your humanity every second of your life. And it's something Luke changes. Once again the best evidence being his marrying Mara Jade. Which I don't consider "organization." You can alter some of the basic teachings of the Jedi to be more realistic and they will still be Jedi. Jedi are whatever that group decides to call themselves. They don't have to change their name from Jedi to something else when Luke decides that Jedi can marry. Sure there are other force using classes but Jedi are doomed if they continue with their there is no emotion BS. I think what it is supposed to represent is control of your emotions. But somewhere along the line this became twisted into ignoring your emotions. I don't care what other force using classes do. Though it's interesting that they could not follow the tenets of the Jedi and not fall to the dark side dont you think? Very thought provoking that the Jedi way may not be the only GOOD way. Nah I don't need to ask for anything. You can already play a neutral Jedi in KOTOR. Don't see why this should change in KOTOR 2.
  20. yup. maybe just sith symbolics? because evil deeds that are on a small, personal level are easier to grasp then the abstract killing of billions. look at it this way: you see someone you know die in a car accident and that is horrible. you hear of thousands being massacred somewhere in africa and forget about it within hours. it's the comprehensible, small scale evil that works best. killing a planet involves a fleet. killing one person slowly involves just the pleasure of being able to do so. more sinister as it is the person doing it- not some flagship in orbit. Chucky makes me laugh. Doll movies are so stupid. Like I said they look just like the symbols on Malaks head which are Sith tattoos so thats what I think also. That's true for the most part. But what about if someone you know is part of those thousands? And people like Adolf Hitler and Stalin are normally considered the evilest people to ever live and they didn't kill millions of people by their lonesome. But you did hit on what it is. They didn't show the humanity side of bombing a massively populated planet. We saw it kill Calo Nord(who we hate) and we saw buildings blowing up. And we "know" technically all those NPCs there are now dead but they don't show it. What we needed we're a few cutscenes (they could be in engine) and show some of the NPCs we might actually like being crushed by rubble and such. Like the good doctor's hospital collapsing on him. The Sith guard that invites you to the party looking up shocked and being enveloped in blaster fire. The dueling arena being wiped out etc. That would have made it much more emotional and made us hate Malak more. By showing the human side of the suffering. Not just property damage is how you show the evil.
  21. yeah, well- he kindda missed an escaping ship there Yeah he was just impatient. He had an interdictor class ship. If he hadn't been in orbit above Taris bombing it he would have been able to take off after them and the game woul have been over. Or the Leviathan scene would happen much sooner. ;-) Malak was nothing compared to Revan. Now he would have been a great villain.
