  1. What you never call your friends by silly nicknames?
  2. Can I have the link to the article where that is stated? Is that on the Bungie website? Unless you work for Bungie I don't understand how you would know that statement to be true. Cheers! Geez it was like 4 years ago in a gaming magazine. Don't think any site would have a link that old. It was just a little footnote kind of thing about this ambitious little game called Halo being produced by the makers of Myst. Said the developers were aiming for fully destroyable environments. I thought KEWL. Thats why I remember it. And Halo 2 is supposed to have destructible environments so Id say it was probably aimed for since Halo1 just didn't work out. It is possible to know things without having been there firsthand ya know.
  3. No you don't. I've never seen you too busy to respond to ANY post you see as even mildly criticising.
  4. Halo PC only? I never knew that. I guess since the Xbox technology came and it's hardware is similar to that of a PC, I guess Bungie decided to release it on the Xbox as well. Oh PC gamers whine about common business practices is all. Bungie was bought so early in HALO's development switching it was no big deal. Originally Halo was supposed to have fully destructible environments. That changed and so did its platform.
  5. Since Chris said he read every single EU source there is (basically) I'd say that's pretty good evidence they are.
  6. KOTOR is canon. It can be trumped but until something does, (like a movie) Lucasarts says it is canon. I can say. Fully trained Sith should be a challenge it is just that KOTOR was easy. And all combat with everything/everyone was easy. There are a bunch of Jedi and Sith and apprentices because in the OLD Republic this was the case. In the movies the Jedi have seriously declined in power.
  7. The best and probably only way to do this is to give Xp only for completing quests/advancing the storyline.
  8. Pretty sure youre right. Cool Hand Luke. I also remember it being used in Smokey and the Bandit though. Good movie lines tend to get repeated.
  9. Somehow I doubt you really hated to tell him this....I got to stupid and then I stopped reading this thread since there's little chance this will got anywhere with namecalling so soon....... There was no name calling. I said the idea was stupid. But if youre so sensitive this is name calling well...
  10. Using my Halo example where my friends tried to use only human weapons how is that metagaming????? And how is not using force powers metagaming? They are all decisions that can be made in game by the character. He'd have to be insane but still.
  11. Totally agree with you. Id like a game where you don't get much stronger at all. All you increase are your skills. HP and that kind of thing stay basically the same. It's called an FPS. Seriously though, what kinds of games out there are using that system? I'm kind of at a loss to think of one right now. Not that I've looked very hard, mind you. OT- Did you know that John Malkovich as agreed to work on an adaptation of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? Can't wait! Yeah Deus Ex for example. FPS with RPG elements. Skills and biomods instead of stupid levels. Heck it had a better story than most RPGs. I said Id LIKE to see one. Not that I enjoy playing such and such game because it does this. Just because it hasnt been done before doesn't mean its a bad idea. Developers and especially publishers are afraid to step away from the leveling treadmill. Can't blame them. the majority of gamers support clickfests and level grinds. If you ever needed an example of the stupidity of people... As for Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy sounds exciting!
  12. Ive always defined metagaming as... The act of using outside or previously gained knowledge within a gaming universe for personal gain or advantage. Is that the same as you? In which case I don't think using personal outside gaming knowledge to DECREASE advantage is such a bad thing.
  13. They post to whine yes. :D And they buy the game. Unfortunately you cant just let the majority of dumb gamers "figure" it out. That IS probably why you write banking software and dont make games. Itd be nice to just forget about them and make games for hardcore players only. Hey Itd make me happy. But its bad business. At least really good games always inspire mods/cheats/editors which end up giving us most of that.
  14. Totally agree with you. Id like a game where you don't get much stronger at all. All you increase are your skills. HP and that kind of thing stay basically the same.
  15. PnP is not possible in a CRPG. You know that. Not sure what your speech on maximizing esources had to do with killing a low level PC who did something dumb though. Entertaining story to be sure but a tad OT. Anyways I was only saying artificial restrictions are a common practice for the more hardcore set to increase their challenge in a gae and test their mettle. Even if you make the game insanely hard there will always be some gamers who find it too easy (there always are!) and will attempt to find new ways to challenge themselves with it. Nothing wrong with that. But you can't design a game with these people in mind or most people will quit in frustration. Do I think KOTOR was too easy? Yes. But that doesn't mean artificial restrictions are a bad idea.
  16. Good points. At the least you'd need the manual to point out that going over level 20 is a bad idea or the game becomes broken though. And you'd also have to make sure the gads and gads of casual gamers realized (and they never do) that this wasn't the recommended way to play the game. Or you'd hve all kinds of posts like this game is SO easy. Whine whine whine. And " I am at level 500! How much further do I have to go to reach the cap/end?"
  17. Yeah, it really sucks that the level of realism in our FANTASY ROLE PLAYING GAMES is so low. Sometimes realism is good for games. Sometimes it isn't. But I don't think we should all dance with fairies and chat with gods etc just because it's a fantasy setting. Even fantasy setting follow their own internal rules for things. I also didn't complain in any way for more realism in my games. I just pointed out that in this particular instance it is unrealistic and detracts from the game. As you point out though it is a ROLE PLAYING game. And I was attempting to point out how level caps add to the role playing.
  18. Says who???? You? Sorry but you aren't the god-king of RPGs. Artificially restricting your character is a common practice among people that want a challenge. You need the developers to hand everything to you? Many gamers take it upon themselves to attempt to beat games in unique ways to test their mettle. I have friends that tried to beat Halo on legendary using only human weapons. Not sure if they did it. I've seen challenges for trying to beat FFX with only one sphere grid etc. Things like that are very common and can be fun. Players can take it upon themselves to give themselves a challenge. As sad as it is some casual players thought combat was sometimes TOO tough. Crazy I know.
  19. Possible but Malak only had one. Both he and Revan were very busy running a gigantic fleet attempting to seize the known glaxy. Who has time to train a bunch of apprentices? Malak took Bandon after he had already been trained a bit and shown an aptitude for the Force. I assume Revan would have done the same if he needed any other apprentice than Malak. I think any apprentices Revan had would have been simply followers that he probably gave a few lessons too. But nothing in depth.
