Freezing, Glitches, & Broken Quests
deganawida replied to Sophrosune's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That might not be a glitch. There is supposedly a "cheat room" in that section of the game, and you might not have crossed over enough. -
Re: Visas Best line ever in a video game: "Well, I wasn't planning on charging up her loading ramp." My wife and I both fell on the floor laughing after reading that.

And a shameless Trent Reznor fan, to boot. Mostly a lurker back when you were active on the BIS boards, though I do believe that we butted heads on a couple of issues and agreed on a couple of others. Welcome back.

Do you find yourself aggressive online?
deganawida replied to romeo_longsword's topic in Way Off-Topic
Ditto. However, I am more assertive and argumentative online than I am in real life (I'm too darn nice in real life; I turn the other cheek and endure rather than assert myself and my needs/desires). -
Funniest thing I've read all week!

IT and writer. Used to be in psychology, specializing in abused kids, but couldn't take it anymore without killing some of these abusers.

The reason I would assume(by looking at the title), would be fun. lol. Maybe mixed with a little bit of 'wow I didnt know that'. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll ask again: Is there a point to this thread other than to ridicule those who have Judeo-Christian beliefs?

Looking for Character Class information
deganawida replied to olaf's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
As I understand it (and I'll admit that such may not be the case for this game), the game manual is put together by the publisher, rather than by the developer. Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but if I'm not, then the one who should be questioned is LA. -
Finally! There's at least someone else out there who recognizes that "ain't" is a word! Of course, to be precise, "ain't" is a contraction of "am not", and believed by some linguists to be the oldest contraction in the English language.
-
Is there any particular reason for this thread? I mean, other than to ridicule those who have Judeo-Christian beliefs? If so, I fail to see it. I suppose that if I started a thread with supposedly funny quotes from Gerald Gardner, or Mohammed, or Confusious, or Lao Tze, or Buddha, that would be great fun as well?

Not trying to say or imply that. However, my experience with working on computers professionally is what has given me my opinion. The point with bringing up the cards that I work with rather than play with (poorly made, I'll concede) was that unless one can afford to get a Catalyst-supported video card (which the BoE isn't), then one is better off getting an NVidia card. 'Course, I've also let my professional experience sour my personal opinions, and tried to admit it. As to where your place of employment getting on-board VC's, I wish we did. Unfortunately, the BoE contracts out to a local firm that builds computers out of "discount" parts, and they like to get ATI specials. In my home PC, I have both a GeForce 2 and some S3 card, and that S3 card kicks the GF2's butt on everything except games ('cause the games aren't compatible). Anyway, wasn't trying to imply that I'm the only one who works on computers (which, at an Internet forum, would be a ridiculous claim, to say the least), only to point out why I hold the opinion that ATI sucks, which is due to my experiences at work. BTW, if working for the BoE has done anything for me, it's made me even more for vouchers than before. In-bred, nepotism-loving, beauraucratic fools.
-
mkreku, you need to work on that reading comprehension, 'cause you quite obviously miss the part where I explained that ATI's ridiculous, non-Catalyst driver system and support is why I prefer NVidia to ATI. There is some difference between individual cards performance-wise, but not much, and in such a case accessibility and ease of use become deciding factors.
-
Which ATI has also caught onto, you have heard of catalyst drivers right? Ever since the launch of the 9000 series all new ATI cards use the same catalyst driver just like Nvidia uses its detinator or what ever they call it now. I lost a lot of respect for Nvidia when they launched an 8x version of the TI4600 and charged way more than a Ti 4600 was worth. Also a cards name does matter as some manufaturers just build better cards just like some just build better motherboards, Asus comes to mind. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wow, you got me there. Well, no, actually, you didn't. You see, I mentioned that I work with a lot of ATI cards, and then went on to make a distinction about about "my home PC". I work for the local BoE, in their IT department, and, you know what, they just can't afford to pay for 9000 series ATI cards. In fact, they wouldn't get them if they could, 'cause ATI is always offering school systems "great deals" on video cards, which consist of cards that are no longer supported by ATI. Now, a distinction can and should be made between video cards for personal use and video cards for professional use for the purposes of this discussion, but my experience with ATI has soured me on them for personal use. When one has to comb through ATI's website for an hour just to find the driver for a video card that was only in production for a quarter of a year 3-4 years ago, and then finds that said driver only works 2/3 of the time, one tends to get irritated and hold a grudge.
-
Yup. I work with a lot of ATI cards, and finding drivers for them is the most ridiculous experience ever. Forget whatever the card is named, as the card's name is not important; all that matters is the card's family. I have, multiple times, encountered ATI cards with the same name but different suffix, where one would be in, say, the Rage family, and the other would be in an entirely different family. Also, ATI has an annoying tendency to drop support for video cards. NVidia, on the other hand, uses an integrated driver technology, so whenever one driver for a family is updated, all cards are updated. Much easier, and my old GeForce 2 in my home PC is fully up-to-date as a result.
-
Amen. And choose Nvidia for your video card; ATI sucks.

Shh, Di! Don't you know that when you point out the logical flaws and errors in such posts, we'll get some response about how we couldn't possibly understand the true truth (which is kinda like newc's "Wet Water" game title) because we're not "blue children" open to the vast energy that Uri Gellar and Soviet scientists have observed with alien microscopes and bound spirits? Remember, we're deluded, sub-human beasts who are incabable of seeing the real reality ("Wet Water", again), and the only way to evolve to true human status is to believe everything that PotC tells us. Yes, I can be bad too.

Yeah, Martin plays Clousseau in a "prequel" to "The Pink Panther" where he supposedly first encounters a theft of the Pink Panther. Of course, this ignores the fact that his first encounter with the Pink Panther and the Princess was in the original "The Pink Panther". It's a mockery, and I hope that it fails miserably. As far as Indy goes, remember, Indy drank from the Holy Grail, so it is possible that his life was extended by a few decades. Harrison Ford, though, is finally beginning to show his age, so I don't know how he'll do in Indy 4.

Well, JEJ got drunk at a convention a few months back and let slip that he does the voice for Vader after the volcano battle, much to GL's chagrin. So, this isn't recycled audio. That's comforting, at least.

Thanks, Visc. I had the guy try that suggestion on his home comp yesterday (that's the Plain Text suggestion). Of course, with his limited computer skills he couldn't do it, and he came in this morning demanding that I fix it. "Unsupported software" means nothing to him, only that I'm "the computer dork" and so it's my job to fix everyone else's mistakes (when it's something here, no prob, but we tell everyone not to use Works). I guess I'll just tell him he's SOL. Thanks again.

Question-- Do any of y'all know any program that will open a *.wps (Microsoft Works Text document) other than Works and leave the document relatively intact? One of the people here at work was an idiot and thought that Works was the same as Word, and his report is due today. It's a substantial report, and I'd like to keep it intact as much as possible (Notepad/Wordpad pulls it up as ASCII text, but sorting through all the formatting code is a bitch). We don't have Works here, and it's an unsupported program to boot, so I'm tempted to tell him "Tough Luck", but I figured that I'd try to help anyway. All the sites that I've found with info on it either just identify the file extension (which I already knew) or require a paid subscription (which I can't afford nor will I do for just one person. Any help that y'all can provide would be greatly appreciated.

deganawida replied to Product of the Cosmos's topic in Way Off-Topic
Y'all are aware of what you're doing when you respond to PotC, right? PotC is not a person; its a burgeoning AI program developed by some ex-cultist computer programmers in Washington State who missed their comet several years ago, and they decided to put it through a modified Turing test. Unfortunately, it fails miserably to pass as a thinking human intelligence, hence its nonsensical statements and inability to cope with objective reality. -
never been. i've always wanted to try, but money and location have prevented me from doing so. maybe i'll have to challenge you to pool sometime, with the stakes being a ski weekend trip.

agree with the incredibles. walking tall (the rock remake) was actually really good. also, the passion was a good film.

HijackThis! BHODemon, 'cause it may be functioning as a BHO (which would be one reason why you're having problems stopping it and deleting it). I've used both of these at work, BTW, so they should be safe for your PC.
