The problem of being rich as Croesus present in most RPGs
(being a storyfag I would not mind being rich by mid-game, would make the rest of the game smoother) Achieving wealth would not be weird. In this game the hero is not your everyday pleb in that he owns a stronghold; you could be a lord/duke/baron/etc. The hero is no couch potato either. He has adventure in his blood; just sitting on a pile of money in a mansion with female characters would quickly bore him to death. It would make sense for him to go on with the adventure. Just like in real life if you were to get rich, after fooling around for a certain amount of time depending on your personality, you'd probably go back to doing business or whatever your main occupation was. Cows guys, cows. ...guys?

Countdown to Eternity!
How sick and mind revolting will the game be, compared to the somewhat entertaining stuff we've seen in the beta (hollowborn children, soul-corrupted nieces, human sacrifices)? Also, will there be memorable moments/revelations like when you read "Don't trust the skull" in Torment?

Countdown to Eternity!
Can I easily play and finish the game with a party of 4 people if I metagame enough? I like smaller parties. Bonus points if I don't need to metagame.

Does the term "realistic" have any meaning in RPGs?
This thread seems to spark quite a bit of interest. Let me pontificate/circle-jerk too then. A game without rules is by definition and by essence not a game. A game needs to have rules so that when you "win" or "manage to do" something, there is a sense of achievement and thus pleasure. If you can win whenever/however/whatever you want, i.e. without any restrictions, it quickly becomes dull. Except if you enjoy madness or pointlessness, there is no reason to play because the game is not reasonable. So games are made with rules. Rules can be whatever the game designers choose, and they give the game a certain flavor. But rules need to be understandable by the living beings playing the game. One way to make a rule understandable is by implementing it with concepts a living being can relate to, i.e. concepts that can be compared to reality. In other words one way (out of many) to implement a rule is with a certain amount of realism. We can see that realism is a small optional part of the big picture of (video) games. Original question: Does the term "realistic" have any meaning in (RP)Gs? > Yes. Is realism a goal to achieve, an end in itself, or worth any dedicated topic or lengthy discussion? > No.

What does "dw" mean? Damage waiver, when renting a car. You're welcome.

Yet Another Pillars of Eternity beta preview
- Expension Idea: Mechanic
If we could choose between 20ish companions in PoE 2 that'd be awesome.- [435 Mac] Rogue's Cloak hovers over him
Same problem here, on an MBP 13" Mid 2014 on OS X Yosemite:- How to interact with own party members?
Same here, back in the day I enjoyed playing BG1 with Ajantis + Jaheira + Imohen + own character fighter/mage/thief. Less micro-management, less clicks (I'm a lazy person), and it just worked as well. Hopefully PoE will be reasonably playable with 4 party members.- Frame Rate Discussion
Haha! I'm gonna start using that expression at work.- 435 Discussion
The Obsidian intro logo is rad but a bit short.- 435 Discussion
No, they no longer do - not even connected to it in fact Sorry? Looks perfectly fine to me: This needs work So far I have not seen this except on the inventory sheet. Windows 64 platform. Yeah I'm playing on a Mac that's maybe why. I should probably file a bug report.- 435 Discussion
Man I'm so surprised this game runs so well on my crappy MBP, and the graphics look good. Amazing. I need to buy a mouse now, instead of using the trackpad.- 435 Discussion
No, they no longer do - not even connected to it in fact Sorry? Looks perfectly fine to me:- The future of PoE - what would you like to see?
1. Fix all B (Issues that the average player will run into), C (Minor issues that are more along with polish) and D (Suggestions) issues. Basically have a flawless engine. 2. Moar portraits! 3. Optimize so that we can have even more units per map and loot can be dropped. Make the game playable on low-end machines or small laptops without graphic cards. I trust Obz to come up with the rest.- Who else is disappointed with the game's battle music theme
The PAX one was good enough. Will wait until release to see if there are some memorable tracks.- Character Race
Headshot... Double kill... Triple kill... Rampage... Unstoppable... g-g-g-Godlike!- PAX South 2015 live thread
Whoooops, I thought the stream would be at 12:30 PST time, not CST time. Nevermind, watching the archived stream right now, 2 hours late.- Who is going to wait till the first update before playing?
I'll wait 10 years, like BG1.- Ambient sounds + NPCs : cities too empty ? + Animations of characters
Yeah, you wouldn't want those horses to be too stable- Ambient sounds + NPCs : cities too empty ? + Animations of characters
Yay! This will at least alleviate the problem (or maybe solve it depending on the solution). Edit: Hopefully there will be more to the addition than just patrollers, otherwise it will feel like an enemy army occupation patrolling during curfew. Maybe add random plebs or something.- Little questions
<advertisement> Here's another one too: http://poedevtracker.net </advertisement>- Night environmental sounds (crickets are too intense!)
Can't hear them either- Night environmental sounds (crickets are too intense!)
'Sssup. They are on it: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/70083-392-cant-turn-down-cricket-sounds/?p=1559871- Solid GUI in Progress
IIRC it would be optional so probably turned off by default? - Expension Idea: Mechanic
