  1. Considering I would like this game to be received well and actually be seen as a viable game style for future titles, I would hope they do not cut off their nose to spite their face.
  2. I would have liked to see the spirit shifts have more of an impact on the Druids gameplay. From all that I've gathered each form comes with one little trait but beyond that it is just a cosmetic change.
  3. I would much prefer a game delay over meeting a deadline. I support the hard work the developers are doing, it can't be easy.
  4. got an mfa in english and everything. go figure. HA! Good Fun! To bad you don't use it, seriously your posts are painful to read. I honestly don't know what half your arguments are about because I don't bother reading them. Gromnir, on the other hand, feels complete justified in dismissing half your arguments only after reading them. what does that say 'bout your character compared to ours? we wonder. "The ingenuity is in the details, of an imaginary dialect. Which is already incorrect, as it is an imaginary syntax. Also incorrect, since it exists on 'paper', consistently, not solely in the imagination. My best guess as a hack English major, is, it's a distinct mix of simple present and past continuous verb tenses, built on decapitating adverbs, wrapped in received pronunciation. Consistent reproduction can only indicate a greater comprehension of the official language. Also explains the schmuck detection. " that sorta perspicacity has no place on a crpg message board. HA! Good Fun! Doesn't matter it's all white noise. I don't know what your saying and now that I know it's an act I don't care. I tried reading your stuff because I thought that was you.

  6. Jeeze I thought gromnir was from a non english speaking country doing his best to write in english. Wow he writes that way by choice?
  7. This already doesn't feel like a spiritual successor to me so shoot, I'm just spitballing things that would get me more excited since the XP system is not up for debate. But thanks.
  8. Something like a datacron system from Swtor, or a sky shards in ESO would make a lot of sense. You could have things called Soul Orbs that grant different types of mild bonuses, from improved stealth, bartering, accuracy, diplomacy, all of which would be relevant and a fun perk to boost no matter what type of character you are building. Drop in a few Random rare creature Spawns, and randomize some of the loot and I would be very content.
  9. It is easy enough for the PoE developers to provide exploration incentives outside of main or secondary quest lines. Rare items, crafting components and unique item drops are just three compelling incentives PoE developers can deploy to give us compelling reasons to wander off the beaten track and explore the world they have created. I agree this could work. But it has been stated that all items will be hand placed, so they never change. So once everyone knows where everything is again there is still no reason to go exploring anymore. Someone will play this game, find everything, and put out a guide in 2 weeks. Now I can simply search for the items I'm interested in and go solely for them. I don't need Combat XP, but random loot and other incentives still need to be looked at. Otherwise there will be very little reason to go off the main path especially if I'm not a crafter. Then there is a giant game out there built with a lot of nothing which seems like a shame. I know there are some of you who don't care about exploration but I personally want to be encouraged to explore the world and for me animal parts isn't incentive enough. That is disappointing.
  10. I've heard tell that by using high perception for the interrupt mechanic, that makes the faster weapons very affective. Is there any truth to that? Beyond that yes those sound reasonable.
  11. This is a good post, IMO. The problem I personally have with the game as presented so far isn't so much that I think there's an inherent flaw with quest-only XP. In fact, I kind of like the idea of quest-only XP. But to me, the game is sending mixed signals with the design and mechanics. I still can't grasp the thinking behind giving no reward for combat kills, while every ability, spell, and talent in the game that I've seen so far is oriented toward making the character better at... killing and combat. If the whole idea is to give you alternate methods of solving quests and no matter how you do it, you get the same XP award, then why are there no talents, spells, abilities or even racial and class perks that will help you build a character that can be more effective at solving quests without combat? ***Thank you for you attention while I beat this dead nag to a fine paste.*** You've said this many times and never gotten any type of answer and I think it's a fair point. I can't give you an answer because I don't know the reasoning behind it. I also don't need combat xp in a game for me to enjoy. I also don't think there is anything wrong with Quest only XP. I don't feel like it is being tackled properly in this game and the design seems to be at cross purposes what with the incredible focus this game places on combat. As it pertains to the wildernesses I hope there are a ton of side quests in each area, maybe there will be. If not it will feel like a lot of empty space without any other reason to be there. Not even exploration xp or Unique boss fight Xp or just something. The first time I play through the game I'm sure I will explore as much as possible in order to see what's out there, after I know, I will avoid all unnecessary parts of the game. That seems like a waste.
  12. These developers disagree with us. Not all developers disagree with us. Just wanted to point that out. Obsidian isn't the only RPG maker in town. As per beating a dead horse, well I'm up all night anyway for work so meh this passes the time and is enjoyable.
  13. I only like having arrow if they come in different varieties with different properties and abilities attached to them. If they are only going to have 1 type of arrow in the game then ya it's a pain and waist of inventory space.
  14. That's not the reason why they eliminated Kill XP. So why bring it up? This game has a level cap. Which means double-dipping the XP rewards will only ever work until it can't anymore. And then after that everything will be equal for everyone regardless of how they got to the cap. sure it is part o' the reason. you haven't been paying attention. when developers speak o' how players will exploit or game the xp system, Gromnir example is exactly what they is talking about. this is getting bizarre... "We all understand the concept. Nobody is unaware of the concept. We got it, you like the concept. No matter what you do, or how you play, everybody is the same. We are all the same. Huzzah! Sameness. The more ingenious you are when tackling the problem is rewarded exactly the same as a derp derp sword jockey. Nothing like the smell of sameness in the morning." yes. congrats. you see wrongness with a Role Play Game that makes alternative Role Play Choices equally viable? we hope not. smell o' sameness o' reward in a role-play game that we might wanna actual replay again at some point in the future is a Good thing, not something worthy o' derision and scorn. ... somebody cue the outer limits theme music, please. HA! Good Fun! *sigh* no Gromnir I don't see wrongness. As I've said many times before this isn't about wrongness. It's about preference. I don't have a problem with the fact that others might find "better ways" of lvling in a game that is single player, completely winnable no matter how you choice to play, and has a lvl cap. I'm not shamed by my choices, driven to bouts of savage murdering because the option is out there, or really influenced in any way by how others choose to play there single player game that impacts me in no way.

  16. What can I say, sometimes messy is just more fun.
  17. I guess they are encouraging all of us to play god like? I mean.....
  18. I think the previous poster's example is bad, but he makes a valid point. If anything, an RPG should be rewarding the player for RP, not asking them to RP to make up for its own design failures. Agreed, but removing combat xp entirely is not the only solution to this supposed problem. with quest xp, you get combat xp. you also get stealth xp. you get diplomacy xp. you get we-never-expected-you-to-complete-that-quest-that-way xp. quest xp does not discriminate or punish. however you choose to accomplish a task or quest, you receive xp. thus, if you killed every bug, mammal and mystical beast on the map and vanquished the ultimate boss with a hammer blow to the head, you is receiving combat xp. everybody wins. nobody loses. socialists everywhere should be rejoicing. and yes, we know that ain't what you meant by combat xp, but functionally, quest xp simply removes the need or point o' distinguishing. HA! Good Fun! Thank you gromnir, I'm aware of your position. I also understand how quest only XP works. Not sure how socialism fits into all this? Not a fan of it myself, I guess you are? Looks like there is something else we don't agree on!

  20. None of those XP rewards you mention are in this game. It's only Quest xp. I would be happy with exploration and achievements on top of Quests as a compromise but that isn't even on the table.
  21. I agree it would be unwise to come in here and discuss this with us. It would not go well and there is no upside to it. He would most likely drive more potential customers away and perhaps gain unwanted media attention over this issue.
  22. So people talk NPC's out of the quest, lockpick their save and kill them anyway in the end. Thats what usually happens in every RPG that offers extra xp for every activity on the way to the main goal. Based on what? Stop generalizing this "degenerate gameplay" because you can't RP.
  23. That's fine, but you don't have to grind. That you feel compelled to is on you.
  24. I also never reached lvl cap on ESO because after 3/months I didn't have enoughtime to play to keep paying the fee. But again iI did every quest and dungeon and crafted as I went. I felt no need to rush to completion
