  1. I could see republic soldiers swearing off the nasty things (the description says they're extremely painful to the victim, though I'm not sure that's realistic. Nerve's are made of molecules, and don't function as a whole on the molecular level... very fine blades cause little to no pain), but Sith would use them all out. They like the in your face stuff, but guns against swords? Realistically... but in game mechanics, I guess things don't work out that way. If the game mechanics say it's bad, who are the Sith to argue?
  2. They said they'd be making the sequel darker than the first one, more like episode 5.
  3. Yes, quasar, you see the light. Yeah, it would be difficult to hide from Sith. You could still say you wanted to switch and pretend to be with them, and they'd say, "Excellent, we can corrupt, mutilate or kill him at our leisure," then you'd backstab them. I imagine that not all Sith could recognize you, though - it'd depend on their power and how weary they were. I suspect they'd have to look at and talk to you for a while before they knew if you were a lightsider.
  4. I agree. Dueling didn't really feel like dueling, it felt like a lame uber-crpg-boss with stylization. Of course, typing WHILE you controlled your character (typing to initiate dialogue) would definitely add difficulty, but maybe not in the way you imagine. But seriously, here's a way to implement that: you have fighting animations play while you talk with Bastila in dialogue mode. I like it. The simultaneous force power/ fighting would be changing the rules and possibly imbalance the game, if it weren't done right - I imagine it would be easy to screw up. I would much prefer a faster paced combat engine, overall, that didn't STOP THE FRIGGIN ACTION while you took your sweet time lifting a hand to cast force lightning/wave/whatever. KotOR had battle music, but most of it was pretty lame, and I can understand why you didn't think it DID change. Soule's music just didn't have the soul to match up with Williams' original score, whether it's a matter of musicians, equipment, or writing. I suspect a little bit of all of that. I agree about the overall unimaginative part. It was better than I would expect, though, considering they actually managed parries, dodges, blocks and locks in the combat animations. I think Obsidian is adding more combat animations (I hope they are, beyond just the feat progression) and a lot of things already look better. I liked the Jedi Academy dueling better (obviously, that has something to do with it being a first person shooter), but it still wasn't as satisfying as watching the movies. At times the moves were a little too much, as well - too flamboyant and overdone for my tastes, but cool nonetheless. Strategy needs to be added to melee combat, and it should be necessary, and really complex when you're fighting a boss. When someone wins, it should be pretty final - one hit with a saber should just about kill, at least when you're fighting a duel. Outside of the duels is just levelling up, it seems, so it doesn't make a difference.
  5. "Logic is a little bird tweeting in a meadow. Logic is a wreath of pretty flowers...which smell bad." - Spock Love it. Don't remember spock ever saying that, though, so could you give me some sources?
  6. It doesn't MATTER if it was a serious suggestion or not, it's wrong No, I wasn't arguing with you; I was reasoning with you. I know it sounds like a strange euphimism(dammit, sp?) but I really mean it. When people say the sky is green, even if they're only half-serious, I'll argue it. No, I'm incapable of blowing it off -they're wrong. So, because the sky isn't green, you're wrong, and thusly very obviously color-blind. Actually, the white haired woman was based off of ME. No, not Revan OR the former PC, but ME. I'm not a woman, but I'm making an appearance as one in this game. Just watch, this post will be deleted and none of you will remember this. This is how I know the identity of Bastila. Of course, I guess I need to stop. People argue things that are completely ubsard where they wouldn't otherwise, assume I'm too serious or antagonistic, and in one case they even (though I realize it was based off of a misunderstanding) called me a bigot through their arguments with me. So yeah... I need to learn to stop seeing the argument as something metaphysical(more or less), because no one else does.
  7. Let me re-emphasize: the game will be dark. Yes, yes, I know it was inciteful, but you don't have to clap especially for ME. It wasn't my idea, after all.
  8. Darque: Well, they knew the Stormtroopers could never hit them Noni-noni boo-boo. Maybe they should have some sort of, 'totally unhittable' when you're wearing only clothing that sounds good. Save all the AC nonsense for when you're wearing armor. Sounds about like the movies, doesn't it?
  9. It doesn't matter, frankly. It doesn't fit the Star Wars universe I know and would like to believe in to have Sith artifacts tainting people just by being around them. It totally makes the LS/DS distinction trivial and pointless. It seems to me that certain people are more prone to like the Darkside ways, and there's a reason for that - you aren't changed fundamentally by seeing the dark side, but if it tempts you (some it tempts more than others) it does, technically, influence you just by being around it. And if you aren't prepared for dealing with these temptations, don't know what to tell yourself, those temptations are going to be a lot stronger - as it was with Bastila. I don't like the dark side being like demonic possession, it totally destroys the idea of "redemption" and the personal, more realistic and everyday side of temptation to do wrong, no matter how justified it seems. In real life it DOES seem a little like possession, and the Darkside is described in such a way too... but an object possessing and making you bad stuff, regardless of whether you cared about that object or not, is absurd. I think there's a reason that Jedi are at greater risk of falling to the Darkside - it's using the FORCE to do bad things that really ruins people, not just an occasional naughty action. I didn't meet the scientist guy, because every time I play and I get to the rakatan world I'm like, "Oh my god, just get me through this... the boredom is excruciating". Maybe they weren't good in every way, but at least the Elder's you speak to are inclined to try and get you to destroy the star forge, meaning they are un-influenced by it and capable of coherent thought. They are, after all, a race of ill-disposition. It makes sense that they'd still be a little evil, un-influenced by the Star Forge. But I like the idea that he leaves to fight a greater threat. It's less tragic and dramatic, so I'd go with a spin-off that is. I don't like your light side explanation (psst... it's too short!) Why would revan lead suddenly? The galactic senate wouldn't unilaterally hand it over to him, and I'm sure the Jedi wouldn't either. He did a lot of bad stuff, after all, even if he's made up for it and cleaned up his own mess.
  10. I don't think it would help to just add more lines, unless you added a LOT more lines. They'd still get repetitive. I think the option to stop party chatter outside of dialogue mode should be in. Fourth wall? I'm unfamiliar with the term, though it sounds vaguely familiar.
  11. Yes - more character for the main PC. I think the Force Adept feat was just to catch Revan up in Force points with the other Jedi, so he wasn't so handicapped he couldn't hardly function as well as the others.
  12. Err... maybe she was exiled too? Maybe she was your guardian, and is supposed to keep track of you for the council - sort of like Ben watching over Tattooine. Heck, I don't know. But no, she can't be Bastila. Kreia is REAALY old looking, if you look closely, and there are pics where her eyes are uncovered. She's Force linked to the PC? I hope they implement that story element well. There's another reason she probably isn't Bastila - Bastila was already bonded to Revan, now this character too?! No, and it's not even a possibility that we're Revan again. It's just not. The Dev's have said the PC isn't Revan, the official announcement describes a character that isn't Revan.
  13. Not to mention how much the stormtroopers missed in the movies. Did anyone EVER get hit by a blaster that was a main good guy? And GAH, I don't know what SKILLS I'll choose! Even as a Sentinel with 10 int you get two skill points (I'm right, right?). It's a conspiracy, I say.
  14. ... or prolong it. In retrospect, this topic was pretty pointless. Five pages? How? I thought it would get three responses, and I'd be happy. Apparently, the less fundamentally important a topic is, the more responses it'll get. Any fundamentally creative suggestion's I've ever thought up get a luke-warm response, but this gets the pat on the back of everyone, and a consequent flame war. Wow. I'm flattered. this was a very controversial, inspiring topic. I'll have to put this theory to the test. How many pages of, "We need robes," with arguments and counterpoints have their been in Bioware forums, and compare that to... I dunno, any gameplay suggestion made. Most are lucky to get five pages, usually just about three before dying... I think I'm on to something.
  15. Hmm.... could I still get Kingdom Hearts? Is it on X-box? What's the premise?
  16. (forgot to respond to this, ha) Ahh... so Chris is writing? Did he write in PS:T as well? That's reassuring...
  17. Amen to that... I'm not going to buy Jade, though. I thought Shogun was a neat game, but it's just too alien to me. I like european and east-asian stuff, because that's different, but alien is just... alien. It may have similarity, but the stylization comes on strong, and the stylization I don't really care for.
  18. Yeah, that's pretty much who I was talking about. You hardly have to read their books to see they need an editor. They must have put out hundreds of books, and all of them are like four thousand pages long.
  19. Well, really the problem is with the hitpoint system. It's lame. The parry and evasion skills should rule the day.
  20. I wasn't taking anything seriously. It's all fine. I wasn't lying when I said it was. But yeah, it's good to know we agreed more than was apparent to me. Still, look at what I said - you think it looks too similar, but I don't. I was trying to make sure you understood I was just trying to figure out why, or if there was a reason. I'm sorry about the misunderstanding, but for some reason it REALLY looked, and I was sure of this, that you were arguing grey was the same as white. Could be context, or it could be how you said it, I think it was a little of both. Keep in mind, you said before "grey/white" and when you said, "I saw Kreia's hair was grey," the interpretation could go for it seeming like you still thought of the grey/white thing as not mattering or for you saying that you know Kreia's hair isn't white. There wasn't any particular reason to get too agitated, really. I was saying how it looked from my point of view, and the intention was to get out of you what was going on. You don't think the two hair colors are the same, fine. Now I know. Just as your 'assumption' that the two are probably the same, or if not, too similar, isn't really an assumption, my 'assumption' that you were saying that was the same wasn't really an assumption. sort of changing topic... Demon: are you talking about concept art? I don't quite see the resemblance, but some of the concept art (the profile view) is really ugly, while some (concept art I haven't seen quite a while among it, along with the full frontal face view on the LA website) look fairly attractive. If I could see the resemblance too, it would be pretty disgusting, especially if you looked at that as following the trend of Aribeth and others in NWN.
  21. To me, it seems their whole search for the Star Forge and the subsequent USING of the Star Forge was what caused their fall. There were good Rakatans, the Elder's... and they had been in that system for ages, since they were born, and were of an evil-inclined race. In the sequel, there will be dark force nodes every now and then. Using them, letting their power envelop you will give you a pretty significant DS hit. However, just being in their presence won't. I suspect some would let the Starforge power envelop them, being at a significant disadvantage to the darksiders (according to Bastila anyway) and a lot of the Jedi would be inexperienced, I'm sure, and maybe not know what they were doing when they did it, and were tainted. The inexperience would also add to their weakness in combat against the hordes of Sith, and thus the temptation. It doesn't seem to fit, however much I'd like it as an original story, to have the Star Forge make everyone in it's presence evil, though. Still, I like the idea. I can see it influencing others in the long run (they feel and taste the darkside must more tangibly after that, having really experienced it whether or not they gave in... some would be wiser, some wouldn't), and as they fight the Sith in darkening times, with Jedi losing and falling to the DS, running, or dying, they would subsequently fall without a proper Jedi Council to contact and prevent their own fall. Hey, what about my theory before? do you think my explanation is plausible? You can bitch me out about it if you feel like it, I just want feedback. And to add to my argument of before, that I want you to respond to... Sith lords could still take advantage of the changing situation. The new Revan hadn't proven himself yet, and had certainly disproven himself in some people's eyes by falling to Malak the first time. They believe in the strength of the leader, but they aren't like, "Oh, just give the poor schmuks a chance." The Rakatans destroyed themselves over the DS, and from what the Elder's said, the Star Forge was a big part of this in-fighting. Logically, it would be cause enough for people to grab at power.
  22. As has been said before, I think his biggest weakness is that he doesn't have any real collaboration. Whether he's deliberately surrounded himself with Yes-men or it's just ended up that no one really criticizes his ideas (maybe he just gets irate when someone says, "that's a bunch of crap, you shouldn't do that"), the end result is the same. I know fantasy fans everywhere are going to scream at me, but it's the same with a lot of second-rate tolkien-contrived fantasy that's come of the woodwork over the years. They need an editor, they don't have one, the products still sell well and no one wants to say no to them. In a lot of ways, I guess, Star Wars has fallen to follow more than just the positive fantasy traditions...
  23. The thing I left out is that my 5200 is a PCI card, and my power supply shouldn't technically be able to support it. I *do* run on high textures, (runs just as fast or slow as low textures... same wierdness I have with NWN, incidentally) that's one advantage, but I really care about gameplay. It's nice for taking screenshots, but it has a lot of hiccups, and I haven't seen an in-engine cinematic play smoothly since I turned on per-pixel lighting effects the first time. Also, it's a Dell, so that pretty much destroys the option of upgrading. If it weren't a Dell, and if I had saved for maybe an Ibuypower, I wouldn't have this problem at all. I hate myself. The fact that you apparently run it better is odd, to say the least. Fragmented harddisk? I don't think so, but possibly. I like to think I maintain it well. And the loading times are fast, if you didn't catch that. Much faster than X-box, it's just the playing and the in-engine cinematics that drag and hiccup.
