  1. that the miniseries one? i've been thinking about grabbing that as well. it was pretty good (and the chick who plays Alia is hot) The miniseries was pretty damn good. I would have liked if Jennifer would have gotten more screen time(favorite character), but besides that it was a great series. It was good, wasn't it? I turned over and saw it one night when I hadn't even heard it had been filmed and thought "Hmmm, this is familiar, isn't this Dune? Where's Kyle MacLachlan and Sting?" Happily, they were both absent. I'm almost glad the first film was such a disaster - I've heard they'd intended to make the full six books before it bombed, and MacLachlan had actually signed up for that. Though the closing credits music was rather good.
  2. Long, but ultimately good. Lots of marking of exams and essays and the like as the end of course approaches, but I'll feel a tremendous sense of satisfaction on Tuesday evening when everything finally is done and dusted, so looking forward to that. Also, my internet connection has woken up after a few days of generally not working very well at all really.
  3. 1 15 5 That's it.
  4. I think there's a mod out there that allows you to get Handmaiden even if you're playing as a female PC. I'd be tempted, I admit. Disciple's battle cries get on my nerves.
  5. LS. Even in games that have an 'evil' option, it's often poorly thought through and inconsistent, definitely weaker than the 'good' path. On the second playthrough that's fine because you have a vague idea of where you should be going and what you should be doing, but on the first run there's too much risk that you'll get confused and screw up the game or your character or both. I would like to play the 'evil' path first one day, but I don't really have confidence in many developers to get it right.
  6. Not for the moment, no. There doesn't seem to be any danger of this thread slipping off the first page for long, and we can always count on Blank. It's been fascinating to watch the progress reports for this mod, especially for someone like me who's firmly outside the game development/modding world. It always seemed like a huge undertaking, and so it's proved. Any day now...
  7. I like this place - it's friendly and easy on the eye. I've signed up to various boards, such as over at Bioware, but I hardly ever go there to look, let alone post anything. I was recently forced to sign up to the DarkStar One forums just so I could access a technical support link to fix a bug I was having. That put me off immediately.
  8. That's because I wholeheartedly endorse its supremacy. Oh yes! And not at all because I've never heard of it.
  9. Hello, and welcome to the forum. To make things easier for everyone, we try to keep all discussion and speculation about Kotor 3 in a single thread: here. Though there's always a rumour or two floating around, there's really nothing concrete about Kotor 3 yet - at least, nothing that I've heard of.
  10. I suppose if you were part of the 0.1% of the population able to use the Force, the Sith side might be superficially attractive until somebody slightly more powerful than you decides to kill you for fun - honestly, their employee turnover rate must be horrendous. For the rest of us poor mundane souls, I'd prefer to live in the messy, bureaucratic Republic with its meddling hippy Jedi than under the heel of the fascist warmongering Sithies.
  11. I suck. I've just managed to get past it, principally by rolling out of the way a lot more and by discovering that I could indeed save the game just after the last guy of this round had died and before the cut scene triggered and brought on the next round. The village and the school are pretty. I actually really appreciate that. I don't get a lot of pretty where I live. It's nice to wander through an area where you'd quite like to live, even if it's just as a computer character.
  12. Maybe 25 hours total? Didn't count, exactly. It's worth it, though. When I posted, I didn't realise how close to the end I was.
  13. Well, finished Darkstar One, which is just as well as Jade Empire has finally downloaded itself. Except... I can't be more that thirty minutes into it and I'm completely stuck. I have to click fast and stuff. I keep getting creamed on the beach, I mean, I'm not even close to surviving the battle, and it won't let me save the game if I do well for a spell. Really, if I wanted this kind of combat, I would have bought a console. I like the tone, the graphics and the voice acting so far, and still have high hopes for the story, should I ever actually get to experience any of it. I don't think the little tutorial sparring session with the other student really prepared me very well. Oh well, I suppose I will eventually get past this fight with my skills enhanced to such an extent that future combat sessions won't be quite so intimidating, but still - talk about a learning curve!
  14. Darkstar One. It's not bad at all. I don't imagine I'll replay it, but it has more of a feel of Elite (my first ever PC game) than others I've tried.
  15. One adventure game in the list so far. Monkey Island 2 had better be in the top ten. And what about the old Infocom text adventures, as this list is supposed to be 'of all time'?
  16. I think it was two games total a year from LucasArts, one Star Wars and one other. The rumour doesn't seem very convincing to me, but who knows? IGN were confidently predicting over a year ago that Obsidian was already developing Kotor3, and that proved to be false.
  17. 1-8 2-23 3-38 4-43 5-46 I like cats. Other than that, I didn't want to vote for any that I couldn't imagine using myself, so it ended up a very short list.
  18. But it has always been thus. If you remember your episodes of The Good Life, you'll recall that Tom and Barbara were always scrounging something or other off Jerry and Margo, goods and labour. I don't think this lot will be getting many goats from the neighbours, mind you.
  19. I agree completely. It's so rare for me to see Will Ferrel in something and actually like him. Bewitched was just wrong, but this was so much better. It didn't linger at all over the hows and whys and deluge us with psychobabble explanations - I really appreciated that.
  20. An ecologically-sound settlement requires the building of strong links with local communities - it's the strength of these communities that offers an alternative to the wasteful global market. You can't do that if you're lying through your teeth at local residents and generally upsetting everyone. Your neighbours are part of your environment. What these people are doing doesn't tie in with my idea of ecologically-sustainable economics.
  21. It's hard - I know so little about most of them. If there were a vote tomorrow (and I were eligible to vote), I'd probably vote for John McCain. I've heard that he's a moderate conservative, not particularly friendly to the Christian Right, but most importantly he might do something about how politics is funded in the US. I think that would be very healthy, not only for US democracy, but for how democracy is perceived in the non-democratic world.
  22. I think 'Redemption' was on Haven't tried a mod to fix it - where would that be?
  23. I wish I could do more to help, but I'm not really technical  . The first thing you could do is to download the latest Ati drivers from their site, and install them yourself. If you get the same problem, try finding older versions of the driver on the Ati website. However, it's more likely that the problem is with Vista. I don't know if Kotor2 is officially supported on Vista yet, or if many people have got it running. So far, not many people have played under Vista and reported problems here, so we don't have much of a knowledge database. It might be a matter of waiting until Vista or the drivers are tweaked to work properly. If you do manage to find a solution, please post here again and let us know what it is. We're rather short of Vista fixes, and it's going to be a growth area, I think.
  24. If Jolee had been neutral, he wouldn't have He was good, whether or not that registered as DS on his character page - hence his comment that labels don't matter. I think we can allow different types of good - lawful and chaotic as a first step - but they all fall under the good/LS heading, not morally neutral.
  25. If I were George Lucas, I would not attempt to direct or write dialogue for the forthcoming Star Wars TV series. I really really mean this. Really.
