  1. We've got a definite origin; he's a Jedi and a veteran of the Mandalorian War who was exiled for reasons unknown, which will presumably be spelled out in the course of the game. So we've got a solid background there. But what about even more detail? Do you want to run into past friends, enemies, etc. from your character's previous life, or would that impact too much on how you want to think of your character? For example, I always found it annoying as hell when Baldur's Gate 2 just assumed I was a goody two-shoes in the first game who travelled with Jaheira, Minsc and Imoen, rescued Viconia, etc. etc. even when my character was a freaking Priest of Talos. KOTOR solved this problem (to an extent) by making our character as he is now a blank slate. The fact that he was the Dark Lord of the Sith meant nothing in the game because our character was a totally different person than he was before. The same was true of Planescape: Torment. But here there are no memory problems. If you meet a character who was supposedly your 'friend' during the Mandalorian Wars, and you think he's a complete jackass, the problem of why you befriended him in the first place will still remain and put you at odds with the game's interpretation of your character. On the other hand, a 'blank slate' usually ends up as pretty freaking boring. If your character could have been anything, as in Fallout, then the unfortunate consequence is (mostly) stale dialogue which tries to cover every base. Games like Morrowind don't even bother with the dialogue; they just have key words you can choose, and let you imagine what your character is actually saying. In other words, each side has it's advantages and disadvantages. Which is more appealing to you?
  2. We could also use the Black Isle/Obsidian technique and name him after the states as they joined the Union. I guess he would be Darth New Jersey, then.
  3. Darth John Doe. Darth To Be Announced. Darth Whatshisface.
  4. An armada of capital ships that can't find or destroy a single vessel can be called many things. 'Effective' is not one of them.
  5. I can promise you, KOTOR II will not feature the Star Forge. In order to make this idea of allowing you to choose KOTOR's ending plausible, they have to make sure that the end result of both Light Side and Dark Side endings are reasonably close to one another so they don't have to make two different games: the Star Forge is a massive obstacle in the way of that idea. Thus, it will have suffered one of the following fates: - Destroyed by the rogue Sith Lords in order to try and kill Revan on it, and also to remove his source of power. - Disabled by Revan him/herself before he/she fled into exile, for reasons that will be explained. My explanation: as the computer on the Rakatan planet makes clear, the Star Forge makes already bloodthirsty people even worse, possibly even making them incapable of choosing a good strategy over a bad one if the bad one causes more death and destruction (See: Malak at Taris.) Thus, in order to retain his/her sanity, Revan destroys it. - Destroyed by a surprise Republic attack. Unlikely, but possible. There are other possibilites, but if I were an Obsidian Designer (and I'm not), I would use one of the above.
  6. Original Trilogy > KOTOR > Edited Original Trilogy > Prequels
  7. Wow. Three votes for Yavin 4? Why? Like the Rodian on the space station said, there isn't much left that hasn't been blown to bits. I voted Coruscant, if they make the effort to do it properly.
  8. Unlikely without an engine change.
  9. Not so long as you learn the cardinal rule of not levelling up on Taris; Grenades and Energy shields are your friend. Hell, you can even waste Bendak Starkiller at Level 2 if you learn this rule properly, Scoundrel or no.
  10. And Kreia. And the white-haired chick. And probably several others.
  11. *snort* Overpowered in the KOTOR combat system? Come on now.
  12. We don't know what it does. Maybe that mechanical attachment has an automatic food-chewer or something. That's....kind of a power....
  13. C'mon, wouldn't that be a nice touch if, as you progress along the Dark Side, you get to have various limbs or your jaw or your eyes or whatever replaced, ala Vader and Malak? A new arm which grants you a strength bonus, new legs which grant a dexterity bonus, or maybe go full-bore and get a Vaderish body suit that increases all your physical stats by a bunch? Too late now, probably, but it would have been nice.
  14. My bet: Sunry was Force Persuaded into shooting the Dark Jedi by her Master, and we would've found evidence of that in the Sith base if they had completed the quest. But I actually prefer it this way, with him actually guilty. Makes for one of the few genuinely tough moral choices of the game.
  15. Oh, trust me, I have absolute faith in MCA's story...whatever it may be. They've made it clear that there's a heavy emphasis on story; the last time MCA did that, we got Torment. But that doesn't mean I can't criticize things in the story's description that don't add up.
  16. I mean, for god's sakes, we'll be meeting another Jedi within the first few minutes of the game, we see images of the white-haired chick with a lightsaber splashed across every preview.....Why are these people any less 'known' than we are? If anything, I'd think they would be more known, considering our character has been in exile and they haven't. Wouldn't it be better to just say 'the Jedi Order is fragmented and broken'?
  17. No flashbacks, but I wonder if they'll have any "Meanwhile, across the Galaxy..." moments. Like the cuts to Malak and Saul Karath on the deck of the Leviathan . I don't really mind those; gives the game a cinematic feel.
  18. Calling them 'Whills' is stretching it. Officially, his race is supposed to be a mystery, and I'm glad for it, even if it does force me to resort to calling them 'Yoda-creatures.'
  19. Not really. We see him fight with a lightsaber in Dark Empire I & II, but that's because that he has become young again using his clones and the Dark Side. Hmmm....And how does he do there? Palpatine always struck me as the definitive Dark Side Consular (or Sith Lord, in KOTOR II terms.) He doesn't need a lightsaber 'cause he can decimate the opposition with nothing but the Force.
  20. That presumes that the only legitimate side of the Force is the Light Side, though. If they are manifestations of the Force, then they could be manifestations of it's Dark Side as well.
  21. He said suite. I presume he meant Vader's high-priced accomodations on Coruscant.
  22. Honestly, the only examples we've seen of this unnamed species have all been paragons of the light. Master Vandar, Yoda, and that awfully named female Yoda-thing from the prequels....all goodie-two-shoes. I WANT A SITH YODA! The Dark Side effects EVERY force user, dammit! Am I the only one who wants to see a Yoda-thing fall to the Dark Side?
