The All Things Political Topic - What's Going On...?
BruceVC replied to Lexx's topic in Way Off-Topic
Having a strong currency is generally not considered a bad thing The Euro is the worlds second most traded currency and holds second place for foreign reserves so starting just with that its considered a very popular currency because of the economic strength of the EU Also if someone from the EU goes on holiday with Euros they have massive spending power in countries with weaker currencies vs the Euro. Thats why countries like South Africa are such attractive tourist destinations, its because of the strength of the Euro. And then the EU can import goods easier around cost also because of the strength of the Euro vs other currencies A strong currency has its negatives, its more expensive to import goods from the Euro and its more expensive to go on holiday to the EU if you from places like SA But the advantages of a strong currency apply to all EU members that use the Euro, it doesnt matter if you a small EU country or a large EU country If you dissolve the EU and you go back to previous currencies specific to each country you will still find countries like Germany or France having stronger currencies than Portugal or Slovenia because then its only about the individual economies size I dont see how abandoning the Euro will be change the strength and buying power of smaller countries currencies? -

The Euro is a massive net disadvantage for its smaller/ weaker members because monetary policy of the Eurozone is run for the larger, stronger members. That's true of just about every EU policy. If it's a choice between benefiting Cyprus, Portugal, Malta, Finland, Slovenia; or Germany, then the decision is automatically made to favour Germany. Most of the PIIGS have never really recovered from the 2009+ financial crises- 16 years ago now- and Ireland only did by stealing tax revenue off everyone else. Current EU is an awful worst mish mash of federalism/ ad hoc integration and independent policies that is the worst of both worlds. -

Thats fine, so you believe the EU should dissolve and go back to individual countries? Im asking if you believe in the EU continuing or ending? And it doesnt mean its going to happen, Im interested in your personal opinion -
It depends a bit what you use YouTube for I suppose. I actively search for things like miniature painting guides, Horus heresy battle reports, history and archeology channels etc. I frequently use he do not suggest channel option to get rid of a lot of contemporary political activist channels that the algorithm (or paid for exposure) tried to get me to watch. Also, don’t visit that site without extensions that skip the 30 second ads that otherwise seems to pop up either every 120 second or you use the skip to different place on the timeline function whichever happens first edit: I do sometimes watch YouTubes recommended videos but that’s almost always for related music videos

If it fails in its purpose, then it is just expensive layer of unnecessary bureaucracy. Last couple years EU has failed its main purpose. It allows internal trade restrictions, it fails force free movement, it fails to negotiate trade deals that benefit union as whole instead of just couple member states. It fails in its mission to ensure human rights for all. It constantly increases its operational spending but benefits for member states are decreasing. It fails to force member state to follow the rules with constant new exception rules. It fails to take leadership when its needed. It fails to use its economical strength to ensure peace in Europe. Even when it tries to do something it does watered down version instead of actually progressing situation. It has become tool of stagnation instead of tool of progress and growth. -

Im about 40 hours into King Arthur and its going really well I like how the economy works and how your Camelot upgrades really become significant I am at the part where I have chosen the Fairy Knight over Gawain I love the combat mechanics but I have one criticism I wish I could change the combat difficulty before battles. Its a QOL change I tend to play on Normal and Moderate and I have had 1-2 end boss battles on Moderate where I couldn't win but I could on Normal But you can only be at Camelot to change the combat difficulty, you cant do it during quests, and then you have to do the whole quest again And if I leave it on Normal then combat becomes a little easy Moderate is my preferred setting Anyway its more a QOL change because when you redo quests it doesn't take long

This is a reality of having different countries in a working union. Its expected to have different opinions on geopolitical events But the EU is better than no EU. The single market and reality of the Euro are advantages for its members Lots of countries want to create a similar economic model to the EU like Africa with the AU We constantly talk about the economic advantages of inter-Africa trade and that requires an EU model of the unity of Africa But by default that doesnt mean countries will agree on all geopolitical events like Israel, Russia or these US tariffs -
Best thing YT provides for me are the cooking shows , cute dog and animal interactions and then gaming updates around things like mod collections, mod managers or game strategies around different classes if you not familiar with a ruleset The gaming videos can be very informative, I mastered Mod Organizer 2 by using YT But the political updates and opinions are probably the worst reason to use YT

EU failed in trade talks because it members failed to have united goal, Germany and France wanted quick resolution and other members also had differing agendas. Situation is same with Israel, Germany refuses to give any opinion and other members have quite differing opinions about the situation, so EU fails to have any opinion on the situation. So EU is currently failing as union. -

What do you mean by " It is same factors why EU don't do anything to prevent Israel starving population of Gaza, even though it is something that EU by its own laws should be against. " Im interested in where you see the connection between this and why the EU doesnt create other trade markets outside the USA List all the factors if you have time? - Yesterday

China exports to US because US buys stuff from the China. China's efforts to find new trade partners has hampered the fact that EU and co have also put tariffs for Chinese goods. But those markets that I mentioned are accessible and EU already is in in talks with them and alternatives for US trade should already exists more, but EU's US buddies segment has has slowed down the progress past decade, because they think that USA is our friend. you need functional supply chains - supply chains exits with the countries that I mentioned you need a trade agreement - there are existing trade agreements with the countries that I mentioned, but these trade agreements should be made better, comparable to one that EU has had with the USA. you need a country that can buy your goods and can absorb what the US buys - these countries need to only partially absorb the things that US buys, because big sunk of the goods that USA buys from Europe does not have alternatives and USA can't produce them itself, so regardless of how trade war goes USA companies needs to buy those goods from Europe or go out of the business. So even worst trade war can't really remove big sunk of the trade. All the things I mentioned were things that EU's commission itself offered as options, but they decided against them because many factors, from which majority has nothing to do with the trade. It is same factors why EU don't do anything to prevent Israel starving population of Gaza, even though it is something that EU by its own laws should be against. -

I finished the "Lower Decks" episode of TNG and I can see how they could do a series with this theme. One of the best episodes of the show. -
Oisin started following Director Shmector Boss Arena Locked
-
I think I know exactly what caused the issue. I entered the directors boss arena in multiplayer, and the moment i interacted with the button an invasion happened at my base where my friend was. It soft locked me, and I couldn’t leave the room without resetting and game repairing my backpack. The door is still locked from the outside. I’ve seen this is a lasting issue since 2022 but maybe not for the same cause, let me know if there’s anything you can do! Already contacted Obsidian to try and have them back door my world.

Getting ripped off for a bridge would honestly be a bigger win than any of Trump's incredible deals. I think the biggest thing about the deals is really just putting Trump's name on them, the contents of such are meaningless so long as he can say that he's made a beautiful deal that no one's ever seen before. So long as Trump gets to claim victory, the terms of victory don't matter at all. Also, between this and the whole Obamagate 2.0, Trump is trying to throw up as much **** to distract from him being a pdf file*. *I'm betting a substantial amount of his people do the "it's actually hebephila" thing we used to make fun of certain libertarians for. -
Oh I didn't know you were asking about a mod conflicting with Deadfire Collected Fixes. Hmm, I'd say if you're set on using Booty Buster, use the 5 files from that mod over mine. 15_cv_fleet_master_okaya, 03_cv_nera, and 00_cv_nairi only address a few pretty minor quirks. Basically just small things that stuck out to me as sort of weird when I encountered them. 03_cv_director_castol - My version just fixes a missing reward for one specific outcome of a quest called Of Like Minds. While Aleksandrs' file doesn't have this fix, it does increase the overall rewards for a lot of VTC factions quest. There is also still a way to get the quest reward from SPOILER when choosing to help SPOILER with SPOILER. See walkthrough of quest if you want details and spoilers: https://pillarsofeternity.fandom.com/wiki/Of_Like_Minds 27_cv_court_of_woedica_player_interrupts - Fixes a quest bug during Lost Dues in Good Faith when selecting a response unique to a Steel Garrote Paladin or Priest of Woedica and adds a bit of Serafen disapproval that was present on a similar response so I added it. I have a fall back implemented in "drunkards_regret.gamedatabundle" that should fix the bug if you run into it.

But here is the real problem, I dont think these other markets are as accessible or a realistic alternative to the US for several reasons To create new markets you need 3 main things you need functional supply chains you need a trade agreement you need a country that can buy your goods and can absorb what the US buys China is an export driven economy, its the second largest global economy and twice they have been subjected to US tariffs from Trump and yet they still haven't found alternative export markets so they can bypass the US. Why would China continue to export to the US if they could export to other markets? The US is still Chinas biggest export market And then South Africa is part of BRICS and that includes Brazil and India and yet after 15 years we have a massive trade deficit, R270 billion, with BRICS because these countries also protect there own markets. But we have a R37 billion trade surplus with the USA Im not saying its a bad idea to find other markets outside the US, I wish South Africa could do it. Im saying its not that easy or realistic as you seem to think -

EU needs to find new export markets because of this deal. For example 70% of Finnish exporting small business companies say that 15% tariffs will remove their ability to work in US market. Only companies that already have production in US say that they are able to continue the trade with the US. So getting 15% instead of 30% is next nothing. Avoiding trade war with US does mainly help the those businesses that don't have competition in US market, so they will not suffer from the tariffs. Other businesses needs to find new customers, because they can't live with profit margins that they get from US trade. Increasing trade with Mexico and Canada would help with exports. India, Brazil, Australia and Argentina would help also with exports, but it would also help with products where we EU has given import quota to US, to move that quota import quota to other countries. Putting tariffs for GOP states would force GOP politician in congress to do some thing or risk billions of dollars worth of trade in their states, as US companies could just continue with 0% tariff trade with EU by moving to democratic state, which would cause internal conflict in US that would make trade war more difficult to run. But anyway this was victory for European nationalist parties, as it showed that EU failed to protect EU's trade and it does not help to say it could have been worst when they failed to get single positive change in their negotiation.
