Random video game news... RNG is your friend!
Wormerine replied to Frak_the_2nd's topic in Computer and Console
Interesting. I own it on Steam and it is still on sale here in UK. From what I can find the game was/is banned in Germany? Would buying the game from third party sites not work? https://isthereanydeal.com/game/max-payne/info/ Edit. Apparently not. GMG regions for Max Payne don't include Germany. So weird. Seems like early 2000 violent video game panic ban, than never got reversed. Rockstar should do something about it. - Yesterday

I can't seem to find where SW Knights of the Old Republic 2 is being discussed. The topic was here the last time I logged in. Now it seems to be missing.

No, unfortunately there's no other way other than blowing the door open with thorium explosives. -
Good evening! I have started a new playthrough of the game on medium difficulty and I am definitely more satisfied by the insect combat difficulty. The game has provided a kind challenge so I can imagine Whoa! Difficulty is perfect for those looking for a really tough challenge. I have things to update and some new issues I've found since playing this new version: Clay Mining Mining clay has proven to be especially challenging compared to Grounded, because there is a 50/50 chance that either the clay will splay out in front of you like it has in Grounded, or it'll get caught on your shovel and will get launched behind you. The latter chance makes it difficult to track the clay down again. Seeing how resources tend to be more scattered compared to Grounded, this makes clay collection far more tedious than it should be in my opinion, especially early in the game before getting the resource tracker. I would love to see that fixed. Blueberries (Update) I stand by what I said before with blueberries; however I forgot about the resource finder. That technology definitely helps to find the blueberry patch in the game, where basically all blueberries can be found; however, it is still incredibly difficult to track down blueberry chunks without knowing the patch's location. Without analyzing these chunks, you can't use the resource finder to track down the rest. Basically, this means unless you happen to stumble upon the patch or either ranger station where there's a couple lying around, you're stranded from any of the tier 2 equipment and tools. Blueberry-Story Connection Idea Additionally, the game has it setup so that the stranger knows when you enter the patch and tries to threaten you from taking them. This isn't the only time this happens either. It would be awesome to see the developers add in a side quest to steal the stranger's main resource hubs to weaken her. This would include other resource hubs as well and would function as a king of the hill-type challenge consisting of claiming the area ( defeating her guards there), and defending the area ( a series of base defense or mixr events to set up permanent orc disruptors within these areas). This would allow beginning players to find isolated resources like blueberries without going on a wild goose chase, and make the game's map feel more connected. Biomes Something I loved about Grounded was having different biomes and environments. It really made it feel like an entire world. Now I know Grounded 2 has biomes too, but there's a difference: Grounded 2's map has expanded, but so have they're biomes. They're so big that each one takes up a large chunk of the map and can take entire in-game days to traverse, even on buggy. Comparing to Grounded, you could sprint through numerous different biomes with relative ease ex. Hedge-flowerbeds-pond-oak tree base-lower lawn-haze/dead lawn. My suggestion is to include more mini biomes within these massive ones. Perfect examples are the blueberry patch, mushroom grotto, and oak tree base in Grounded 2. It gets boring traveling through rolling hills of grass or a sea of broken bricks without seeing a change in the environment. This is separate from adding points of interest like pop cap gun etc. Points of Interest Similarly, there aren't enough points of interest in the parts of the game we currently have. It's always fun to explore unique items in the park. These don't all have to be man-made either. Just look at the four leaf clover from Grounded. Buggy Issues I know everyone's been talking about this, but the more people mention it, the faster it'll get fixed. Buggies act like pets did in Grounded. They are coded to have random movements that make them feel more lively while you're staying at one location for awhile. I think it's a great idea, but there's a flaw. The buggies, like the pets were, are coded to stay near you as well. This leads to buggies constantly getting in the way while you're trying to build, collect resources, or use your omni tool. It gets incredibly frustrating. I understand you can simply tell the buggy to stay put, but sometimes you're getting off quickly to grab something before leaving again, and your buggy just makes it a hassle. Buggy issues continue with becoming aggro. Multiple times the buggy remains aggro after a battle and attacks the next closest thing. This has led to multiple combat instances I have not wanted, and some that have caused the death of my buggy and/or myself. Again, I'm still playing and I love the game so far. I think the devs are incredible and all I want is to help them spot issues they might not know about. I'll return soon with more notes!

I have no idea who BamBam or TIMETHAI are, but this popped up in my random feed and all morning I've been listening to it while doing my daily exercise bits (hubby's probably annoyed by now, ha). Just a nice mellow dance song that works well for "busy" arm flailing walking. Good thing I do it in the backyard. Edit: also, none of my SO/s dates liked to dance, so I definitely danced by myself. Also, more Stray Kids. After 1st hearing their Victory song 5-6 years ago or something, occasionally liked their big singles etc. I have now bought all those older singles as MP3's and bought the Karma "mp3 album" off Amazon. YouTube on repeat isn't good enough anymore. I .... may have finally become a "Stay." But I am NOT going to buy plushies/pens/headwear, or cardboard stand cutouts or an ebay auction of a sweat-stained bandana. Just saying. But I guess I'm fully on the "I like all their music and will pay for it" bandwagon, now. -

Heh. Gov Cox saying he's definitely a leftist (somewhat funny that Cox seems keen to share that given his talk of calming things down) https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/utah-gov-cox-shares-more-details-from-investigation-into-motive-of-kirk-shooting-suspect -

I tried to watch the Man C v. Man U match on Peac*ck, but there was a constant stuttering of the view that made it unpleasant to watch. Provider-induced lag from choking the bandwidth perhaps? I hope that's not a sign of things to come. -

Trump team disbands controversial US climate panel Okay, I don't get this one. He hand picks a panel of people who hold non-mainstream beliefs unsupported by facts and data. They produce a report with non-mainstream beliefs unsupported by facts and data. They he fires them over a lawsuit? I guess their task is finished, so off with their heads. -
My glitches a couple of hours in
CapnCrinkleBeard replied to CapnCrinkleBeard's topic in Grounded: Feedback & Suggestions
16 ) A lot of times, busting something causes it the drops to fly away, sometimes by hundreds of cm, often by dozens. The same sometimes happens when inventory is full and you try to farm a body. I found parts of a wolf spider 150cm away from my base (where I killed it). 17 ) With specifically Sturdy Marble, quite often when I bust it, I can't pick up the drops. I see them, they're all shiny in an arrogant-like way, baiting me to pick them up, but I just can't. Tried manually and with "suction" from the ant buggy. 18 ) Sometimes you just fly away. Most easy way to replicate is to jump on top of a caterpillar I think. 19 ) Wow, upgrading weapons costs a LOT of wetstones! -

It very much depends on what the deal would actually entail. An entire country's worth of data for an AI vendor would be priceless, for example, and they'd no doubt seek to eventually monetise things in a somewhat, hmm, Googlesque way at some point. Which was of course a company that- along with Facebook- was notoriously unprofitable. Right up to the point it became notoriously profitable. Nothing like defaultism for establishing a monopoly, and nothing like a monopoly for generating profits. -

When will Japanese be supported?
Makio replied to Makio's topic in Avowed: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's been a while since Japanese support was released, but I finally finished the game. I played on the hardest difficulty and with a wizard build, but towards the end I wanted to take on stronger enemies. Overall, the game was great and I enjoyed it until the end. (Although I wish the cursor key shortcuts could be customized more freely.) I would love to see a New Game+ feature implemented, but with The Outer Worlds 2 coming up, there's no need to rush. Thanks to the team for providing such a great Japanese translation. -

£2 Billion sounds quite low, considering that with OpenAI's current pricing it would cost over £10 billion and if OpenAI has not done something meaningful to cut costs then even that £10 billion would most likely causes them losses, even though it probably would give them virtual monopoly in UK. Maybe OpenAI count that most of the people would not actually use the service and hope that number of super users will be relatively low, but still I am bit sceptic that it would be profitable for them, but they have not pursued profits for now anyway and investors still throw them money with unfathomable speed. -

Also this, as mentioned in another thread: https://internet.exchangepoint.tech/the-dog-that-caught-the-car-britains-world-leading-internet/ Not sure how realistic was the ChatGPT subscription (sounds too ridiculous, but so does everything coming from the current government and the 3 previous ones I have witnessed), but the combination with the Environment Agency’s comments was interesting. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/national-drought-group-meets-to-address-nationally-significant-water-shortfall https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/sam-altman-and-uk-government-minister-reportedly-discussed-giving-chatgpt-plus-to-all-brits-for-free -

Meanwhile in the UK. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/palestine-action-terrorism-charges-b2825342.html "Would anyone think of the planes?" It is ironic that the supposedly left-leaning party is as bad as the far-right one in going after the refugees, the disabled people, and the trans community. While I was unsatisfied with the latest GE (voted for the Green party), I did have a small hope that they might have been slightly better than the Tories, though many of the former Labour voters now share this sentiment. The new Green leader sounds good, so there is something positive. -
I have finished The Shadow over Cyberspace. It is a visual novel in an alternative history "modempunk horror" setting. The protagonist is an amateur hacker afflicted by the Yellow Sign, slowly destroying their body and mind. The way to salvation lies through the Artificial Minds, virtual entities of immense power. Most of the gameplay consists of visual novel-style dialogues, with several dialogue options, opening different paths and providing information. Depending on what has been discovered and in what order the AMs are approached, the dialogues change. There are several endings and the main cast are quite likeable and relatable, aside from the main antagonist. The writing is clear, understandable, and consistent, with each NPC having their own distinct speech style. While a lot of the vocabulary used did not exist in the US in the 90's, this is covered by the alternative history setting and this is what localisation does - finds the closest actively used terminology to convey the meaning. My only complaint would be that the extent of animal abuse in "research", including the space one, was significantly understated. The full list of content warnings is available on the developers' website. Another gameplay system is closer to point&click adventure games, though it is quite light. Finally, there is the Minesweeper mini-game to represent hacking (the mines' positions persist between reloads). The visual style feels closer to the 00's, though fits the game well. The sound design is well done. Most of the dialogues take place in text format in-universe, so they are not voiced, but the ones that are supposed to be spoken are. There is built-in self-voicing function. The installation size is very reasonable (<600MB). As the game uses the Ren'Py engine, it is possible to save at any point in multiple save slots (~60). Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and I have purchased the donation DLC to support the developers. The game itself is fully available for free. --- I have also finished Leap of Love. I'd like to preface that I received it for free, as a part of the Freedom to Buy campaign and the default price is $15/€12.50/£11.40. Leap of Love is a mix of a visual novel and a stat-raising sim. The protagonist is a frog-turned-human who is trying to marry a princess to remain a human. There are several storylines to follow and characters to engage in sexual activity with (GOG blocks posting with the 4-letter word). The only positive aspects are the reasonable length of the game (I would have dropped it if it were longer), the ability to save at any point, and I have not noticed any bugs. I suppose, an anti-semitic caricature for the first NPC should have tipped me off, but, to my deep regret, I proceeded. The art, be it sprites or CGs, is uninspired, unskilled, does not match the text descriptions, and generally unpleasant to look at. The writing is painful to read and the text is filled with typos. The ability to acquire story-relevant items seems to be almost random. The game was not worth my time, let alone the asking price. --- I find it somewhat ironic that the free (as far as I know, Patreon-funded) game was excellent, while the paid one was a waste of time. I have also finished Return of the Obra-Dinn. It is a quite good first-person adventure game. The lack of rebindable controls is unwelcome, but there are no action sequences. I also was almost guessing the last few corpses (there were few names left and I was just matching the uniforms with photos).

I have tried Leap of Love and it was horrible, including the art, with the noses floating across faces and limbs being disproportionate and different on every image. The Shadow over Cyberspace, on the other hand, was a wonder to behold in all aspects.

Yes, that's kinda what I meant with my Path of Pain-post. It's true that the maps are smaller and with more benches inbetween, but those areas pop up non-stop later. You think you're done with it for a while, but then it just keeps going. For me it's too exhausting. I'm not a good enough player to do this stuff in first try. Usually I need 10 or more, to learn everything... The last thing I did was trying to get that mask shard in the bottom right corner of the map... with the lava pit. I can beat the mobs if I concentrate, but then running away from the lava fast enough... it's yet another area that I have to learn slowly, and it just feels too much now. Took a break since then and instead booted up Diablo 2 Resurrection again for lolz. Grinding some mobs with my level 90 Amazon. It's not super hard and a nice change of pace..
