Volourn Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 "BTW. Isn't "You people" a racists term?" That doesn't make sense. Malcador Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Well Ross Perot got dinged for it, once, though it seems a bit unfairly even if Perot is the kind of guy you feel like punching. It's one of those situations where context matters. Why has elegance found so little following? smjjames Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 It's a comedy movie, so, you kind of misunderstood it a bit maybe. Though as malcador said, it's one of those things where the context matters.

smjjames Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Breaking news. Trump asked WH housekeepers to not pickup his shirts or touch his toothbrush. Impeach now! Trump 2020! If true, I guess he's not the kind of rich guy who likes having people clean up after him. At least as far as housekeeping goes anyway.
ShadySands Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 A pedophile who has never harmed anyone obviously has the same access to everything as anyone else. Why is this a question? In all likelihood, we’ll never even know this guy was a pedophile. Sure, but that's not the question here. The question is the people who DID harm someone. HoonDing Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Bannon 2020! The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Epaminondas Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Marshalling my most cogent arguments: Bannon is a tool. yeah, so is Trump, but Trump has actually accomplished things. Bannon is just a dirt-bag who's shamelessly angling for glory. I'd bet he won't even be a ripple after the 2018 elections and, unless the Dems win big, he won't even be much of a ripple. I know there's unreasoning hatred for Trump, and dude brings it on himself, but he has accomplishments that people beyond his hardcore base cheer (sometimes even bravely enough to do it in public). Bannon has had some interesting and even good ideas, but he's worse than Trump. At least with Trump we all knew he was captive to his own vanity. With Bannon we're faced with someone who believes his vanity is patriotism. I'd take any one of you sorry wretched bastards who votes in every election, pays his taxes, and serves on juries all in anonymity over Bannon's self serving and self deluding brand of 'patriotism' any day. That said, no hard feelings and no sour grapes. Let the left laud the man they once despised and let Bannon bask in his fleeting glory. My take is that it will be short lived, but what do I know? We'll see whether I have a point eventually, I guess. Of course, if I'm right, most folks won't get the reference to Bannon because they'll have all but forgotten about him. A fate that wouldn't bother me at all but would be tragic in his eyes, to be sure. χαίρετε

Epaminondas Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Sorry, Pidesco, he does have accomplishments that even Never Trumpers applaud. Gorsuch, the Keystone Pipeline, regulatory roll-back, and the tax bill are accomplishments. They are accomplishments that the left might despise, but they are accomplishments nonetheless. For there to be a sincere debate, it would help if the left would concede that Trump has actually followed through with several campaign promises. You might not like them, but there it is. NB When I say sorry, I don't mean sorry to speak the truth, only that the truth can sometimes be harsh and, for that, I am sorry. χαίρετε

He was going to get approved by the senate, no matter what. Additionally, he certainly just picked whoever he was told to pick. The tax bill's value is more than a little debated, and additionally it wasn't his work in any way. Also it was an accomplishment in the same way that the Night of the Long Knives was an accomplishment: it achieved its goals but it wasn't something to be commended in any way. Bartimaeus Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 (edited) Gorsuch could be considered an accomplishment in the sense that he, Trump, was elected, by which Gorsuch was allowed to be nominated. That makes it partly his accomplishment - more that scumbag McConnell's than his, though, I'd say. Of course, there's an argument to be made that any almost other Republican candidate would've fared better in the general election than Trump, but ultimately, he did get the job done (..even if he DID lose the popular vote by 2 million-plus votes - our election system's fault, not Trump's). Edited January 4, 2018 by Bartimaeus Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. Also, generally speaking, no one cares about the campaign promises he has kept beyond his hardcore base. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/trumpometer/ gorsuch was a mcconnell success and curiously a trump+obama failure. mcconnell gambled big... congrats to him. was not a popular move at the time to fight the lame duck appointment o' a new justice by obama. were not a universal popular move for mitch even amongst republicans particular as a republican president to replace obama seemed unlikely at the time. spend political clout on a pointless endeavour? why? big win for mitch. as to failure o' trump+obama, were only a few years ago when the aforementioned mitch mcconnell prophesied doom following democrat killing o' senate filibuster for all presidential appointments save for The Court. “i say to my friends on the other side of the aisle, you’ll regret this, and you may regret it a lot sooner than you think.” led by obama, the democrats forged the very weapon which would be used to make the gorsuch appointment possible. and trump's failure as a President capable o' building consensus and making deals, which continues to be a problem for him, became apparent early as his mishandling o' Senators considering the gorsuch appointment were almost comical. there should never have been a need to go nuclear if trump had been able to broker deals with Senators. instead he bullied and threatened democrats and republicans alike as if those Senators were the underpaid illegals he likes to use to build his hotels. oh, and the American people lose too. am actual pleased with the gorsuch appointment, but the need to go nuclear were regrettable. even the republican senators who voted to change the senate rules so gorsuch could be approved almost universal lamented the need for what many recognized as a diminution and dilution o' the Senate as a whole. wisdom were sacrificed for expediency. mcconnell doesn't get the credit he deserves. converse, trump is receiving credit for simple picking a name from a list. worst, obama is avoiding the stink o' the colossal dump he took on the Senate only a few years removed. is all topsy-turvy and bass-ackwards.... which is kinda typical for US politics. smjjames Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 He would brag about being responsible for the sky being blue if he thought it would get peoples attention. Let me just state that I completely get and grok and all that the economic boosts that the offshore oil drilling expansion is supposed to have, but even conservatives would have misgivings about offshore oil drilling where they don't want them. Trump is setting himself up for a massive environmental fight by aiming to open up the entire Atlantic and Pacific coasts to offshore oil drilling. TheHill article with some other details. There have been some Republicans opposing it and the Governors of Florida (a Republican), Virginia, North Carolina, and the Gov-elect of New Jersey have opposed it as well. Gov. Brown of California hasn't said anything yet, but I fully expect him to oppose it. I've also seen some stuff about possibly off of Hawaii. The west coast is a particular problem for oil drilling because it's a seismically active region (California especially) and it's going to become a massive fight locally everywhere.

smjjames Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Yep, he only managed to accelerate the release of that book. I think it's just a whole bunch of palace intrigue and drama that will blow over. Some parts may be true, others may have a grain of truth but are overdramatized, others are plain fake and way overdramatized.
