Ranger multiclassing is probably gonna be awkward if pet ends up being lower level (which is the likely scenario), but Ranger/Cipher seems interesting for a ranged weapon specialist with some powers and would give you an extra body to cast cipher powers on (your pet). Alternatively, Ranger/Fighter specced in whatever ranged weapon is best or Ranger/Rogue for dps. Maybe Ranger/Chanter if you can have a pet and a summon, lol. Depending on how good new Ranger abilities are in melee there might be crazier combos out there.

Ranger/Wizard and Ranger/Druid are another possibility for the conjured ranged weapons, and might end up being the best one depending on how strong these are and how well they stack with Ranger abilities.

i have feeling for a lot of the multi class rangers people build, they will use the ghost heart ranger (puke). I know my first run will be stalker only class but ye Ranger/Druid would be cool aesthetic for the dual animal attacks.

Ranger multi classes should have an edge on others, because the pet can attack while the ranger uses other abilities. A wizard/druid can only cast one spell at once, but a wizard/ranger can cast spells at the same time that his pet attacks.

Imagine a character who sings Dragon Thrashed and casts Relentless Storm at the same time. Ouch...

It may also be that the Skald will drown in phrase points if he uses Relentless Storm + Seven Nights. That is if the "crit leads to phrase points" also works with non-weapon attacks.

Skald only gain phrase from melee crits according to the multiclassing II write up.

Same is true for Chanters. They can cast or do whatever they want (except using invocations) while chanting.

I assumed that they would stop chanting anytime they cast a spell, much like invocations.

If lower power level pet means that it would have less damage and hp it's ok, but if they also tie accuracy to it instead of character level it might end up not being able to hit anything. Anyway, it's pure speculation at this point.

So the Helwalker subclass requires more damage to acquire wounds and the Assassin subclass has all incoming damage increased. Could that make a good combo?

A good combo to die sooner I guess. ;)

Just kidding - seems to be a nice synergy. You justhave to make sure you don't drop dead too quickly. I don't see Iron Wheel any more (maybe comes after lvl 9) - that would have been good for this.

Seems like the penalty was changed for Helwalker in the beta, so that pretty much throws that idea out the window. Bummer.

I think a Shattered Pillar Monk/Barb might be quite good. In PoE 1 the Carnage damage from fists with Novice Suffering only scaled the pitiful base fist damage down, leaving the huge boosts to it as you level (and the huge boosts you receive to it from Might) untouched and letting you deal pretty much consistent damage to a whole group (grazes also only scaled the pitiful base damage). If this is still the case in PoE 2, and if Shattered Pillar monks gain wounds in a way proportional to the damage they do, then this would be a great way to rack up wounds (which could possibly provide DR, or lashes, or all the other stuff they give you in PoE 1).

Additionally, if multi-classing averages stats, you're looking at huge health still, better accuracy than a regular Barb and much better defences (again if they keep Monk and Barb more or less the same in PoE 2). Seems like it'd be very decent.

EDIT: Bleak Walker/Devoted Fighter may also be good. Fighters seem to still have access to Constant Recovery, which would offset the Bleak Walkers healing problem a little bit. If Paladins still have access to things like Sworn Enemy (and presuming Flames of Devotion still gives an accuracy bonus) then you should be able to land some very heavy hits with your Devoted weapon (plus Devoted weapons have more penetration, which might be quite vital if things are changed in Beta feedback). Hopefully there'll still be weapon classes containing things like Bittercut (e.g. Slash/Corrode damage) that you could "devote" yourself to and therefore have two means of Penetration.

Devoted/Shattered Pillar is going to be my first attempt at a LoP build, though the following also show potential:

  • Devoted/Soul Blade
  • Devoted/Shifter
  • Shattered Pillar/Shifter
  • Shattered Pillar/Soul Blade

I'm probably rolling a Devoted/Sharpshooter for my imported ranger. Even if the fighter skills end up largely useless for a ranged build, the bonus penetration/accuracy from base devoted could make a 4-arquebus alfa-strike even more devastating, though a blunderbuss devoted would easily wade through critter mobs.

....now i can't help but imagine a devoted/cipher with a blunderbuss, the focus gain against mobs would be crazy.

Shifter/Troubadour or Shifter/Skald are both solid IMHO.  They both work, and maybe Skald a little better.

You can't cast spells while shifted, BUT you keep chanting.  You start combat with a cast of Nature's Mark or Hel-Hyraf, Shift, tear stuff up, return to Kith form to cast another spell/invocation or two (also when you want to switch chants), and pick your next form.

You can come out of Shifted form at anytime to cast some spells, and you have all 5 forms available per encounter.  So, you don't feel obligated to stay in form at all.  I was commonly hopping into Wolf shape to do a knock down, pound a few times, and switch back to casting.

Thematically you have a love of options.  You have enough spell options between the two classes to make something for every element.

Corruption/necromancy type?  Check.

Fire element type?  Check.

Electricity type?  Check.

Ice themed type?  Check.

EDIT:  Clumped enemies?  Cast "At the Sound of his Voice" for a paralysis on them, and shift to Stag to get some carnage opportunities.

Helwalker/Wizard.

With Dance of Death, you can easily get a large boost to your accuracy, & +10 might.

With Duality of Mortal Presence, you also get +10 intelligence.

There's another wound-based ability which gives another +5 strength.

The monk has an ability called "Lightning Strikes". Currently it adds +50% damage not only to weapon damage, but also to spell damage, which can be gruesome. And lightning strikes also increases action speed significantly, helping you cast those slow-cooking spells.

Either Torment's Reach or Force of Anguish can also be used to keep the enemies away from your incredibly delicate squishy.

Ranger ranged-only abilities (wounding shot, etc) work with the Fury Druid's storm elemental form. Pretty sure they'll work with Kakaloth's Minor Blights as well---which is a Conjuration spell. So Ranger - Fury Druid, Ranger - Conjurer....

The Priest of Skaen's "apprentice sneak attack" (+15% damage) seems to stack with Rogue Sneak Attack. Though that's the only Rogue ability the Priest of Skaen gets. Their summoned weapons do a lot of damage.
