I don't know why you'd want to keep endlessly messing with it, reconstituting it and rebuilding it when it's right over there; perfectly playable and as its makers intended it to be, warts and all.

so that someone could have something to criticize? might be more fun than just playing games

Beamdog are at the full mercy of Atari / Wotc. I remember all their replies to suggestions being 'Atari wont let us'.

And yes, they need to beg, grovel and lick Atari / Wotc boots to get anything done.

i know dem feels, Atari is holding by force the other half of battlezone rights(the 98 one and Combat commander that everyone loves it) and activision doesn't care to go there and grab it by force

True, but if they ever got a greenlight for BG3, they are going to need people to put it together.  Obsidian is an obvious partner for that kind of scenario.

If we were going to remake an IE game in the PoE engine, my vote would be for PS:T at this point. We have enhanced editions of the BGs and IWD at this point. I wouldn't mind a modernized PS:T.

But that said, I agree that I'd rather see Obsidian continuing to focus on making games within their own IP.

Wizards of the Coast- Casts Power Word: Cease And Desist : Anyone Even Thinking About This

Wizards of the Coast did 999999999 damage to Anyone Even Thinking About This

Anyone Even Thinking About This- Death

It's big bug, kill my lvl1 sorcerer, pls fix.

Not gonna happen, seriously. For hobbyist modders this kind of undertaking would be seriously massive, 'cause using large amounts of assets from the games would easily get an instant lawyer brigade sent out, and remaking them from scratch would take a team years and it's just not worth it.

I mean, I get where you're coming from, but except for some minor presentation issues the IE games are just fine as they are. The only enthusiasm I have for the idea stems from taking the good ideas the IE games had and porting them into PoE, really.

Speaking of rebuilding IE games in different engines, you all have seen the BG2 remake in the Dragon Age engine that's being worked on, right?  I played through the Irenicus dungeon portion; wasn't half bad, though I rather doubt they'll ever finish the whole game.

Yep looked ok (i still prefer the 2d original tbh)and yes It's allready on hiatus their last update was that  only one person was still working on it so it will never be finished.

I wouldn't mind playing anything else for the rest of my life.

The lack of a "not" in this sentence communicates a flagrant lack of faith in this endeavor. ;)

My Deadfire mods
Out With The Good: The mod for tidying up your Deadfire combat tooltip.
Waukeen's Berth: Make all your basic purchases at Queen's Berth.
Carrying Voice: Wider chanter invocations.
Nemnok's Congregation: Lets all priests express their true faith.

The infinity engine was just perfect for those games, and there are plenty of mods, plus the enchanced edition to play them on new PC-s. Leave them alone as they are. Make BG3 instead. And dont screw it up please!

And frankly PoE doesn't look that much better than the BG series did back in 2000. And that ran on a 300 Mhz PC.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

um, the "engine" is just the Unity engine.

There's a lot of coding on top of Unity to make the engine what it is. That's why inXile is using PoE tech for Torment instead of just vanilla Unity.

What? Are you running on the same 14" monitor as you were back in 2000?

The character models are infinitely (no pun intended) more detailed than those in BG, as are the armors, weaponry, etc.

The 2D maps are much higher resolution, and the animated water, trees, fog, fire and lighting effects are so far beyond anything that was present in BG.

I wholeheartedly agree with your disagree.

PoE does look tremendously better than the IE engine is capable of.

the artwork just is done in a similar style to the old IE games, but the details?  not even close.  all of the effects are more detailed, all of the characters are better animated and much more detailed.

and I JUST finished playing IWD enhanced before I played this... like the day before.  there is really no comparison in graphic quality, this is miles ahead of the IE engine.
