LadyCrimson
I personally wouldn't doubt if it happened at some point, but whether it would actually mean the end of society as we know it, in a total doomsday sort of sense, or just a very extended period of mass starvation/forced restructuring, I wouldn't pretend to know. My plan is still to be dead before anything of that nature happens. “Things are as they are. ManifestedISO
Did you like the sake? I did! I know I had a couple glasses of the Black Label Nobu. I'm fairly new to the whole process, but the waiter did a good job of explaining it all and helping us pair with our food. It didn't hit me very hard though, I'm not sure if it was all the food or if I just have a good tolerance for it. Sake never hits hard ... whoever designed it clearly meant to emulate the delicate touch of that woman who cares everything for you. 2 All Stop. On Screen. Labadal
Today I've been reading some horror stories about an impending global financial collapse and the end of the society as we know it, with parallels drawn to the crash in the early 30's, just multiplied by the factor 10. While I take everything I read about this topic with a grain of salt (a truckload, actually) and its definitely mostly just scaremongering its still a sobering thought. Even though I'd a bit more prepared than a lot of people I'd still be totally screwed. Not true. LadyCrimson
Just realizing that soon it'll be 10 years since I registered here. Which isn't quite as long as many of you, but mostly it's just the thought of ... 10 years. Been some times, those 10 years, both IRL and here. Wonder what's in store for the next 10. ...unrelated: I need more cat icons/smilies. “Things are as they are. Labadal
Today was a good day until a few hours ago. I've been reading about IS or ISIS or whatever the f they call themselves and the kidnapping of several Christian people. Turns of those people are relatives of people I know, work with and so on. People dismissing this terror organization don't know much about the reality of how messed up they are. I should know, we escaped the region about 30 years ago because of crap like this. It feels like it will never end. This why I personally can understand the hostility against islam. I have muslim friends but they aren't really radical people. I also work with kids of all religions. That's why I try to tell them how important it is to respect each other no matter what background you have.
Blarghagh
Picked up Zbrush sculpting in my lunch breaks the last month because I'm sick of modeling stuff in 3D Max. It's wonderfully intuitive and much more artistic compared to the more technical modeling technique in Max and such programs. My first few attempts were awful but here's my latest result (not finished, but I wanted to share it anyway), about a week and a half's worth of lunch breaks:

Cantousent
A year ago today, I started trying to get my life in order and my first goal was to lose weight. My weight on the Doctor's scale was 390lbs. (177kg for you metric folks) For a variety of reasons (and one big one) I lost access to my doctor for several months, but I figured out a weight loss regimen and I've lost over 130lbs so far. My health is vastly improved. I don't know what would work for anyone else, but I ate a whole lot less and exercised a lot more. I have a problem with my foot that makes it hard to run, but I walk or hike at least 30 miles a week, I lift weights four days a week, and I take dancing lessons with my wife. Of course, I still have bad/destructive habits, like drinking waaaay too much, but I've also started trying to take positive steps in other areas of my life as well. Today is a big day for me, but I'm actually posting this about some of you guys. I know some folks are trying to lose weight. Some folks are trying to kick bad habits or improve their lives in some other way. I know that a lot of folks here don't take me very seriously, probably because I've usually taken myself far too seriously and acted quite stupidly whenever I got the chance. Fair enough. That's my fault. So, for those of you trying to lose weight, if some goofy pathetic son of a bitch like me can do it, you can too! For a while, my feet were in excruciating pain every time I walked, but I did it. I would literally tell myself, "I am a tower of iron will." Don't give up hope! I just kept working out and eventually, one day, I realized my feet didn't hurt quite as much. Later, they really didn't hurt at all. Yesterday, I celebrated the end of the first year by doing a ten mile hike through the hills, followed by working out at the gym, followed by another mile walk just to cool down. If I can do it, you can do it! Anyhow, I usually don't sign on here much any more, but I wish those of you fighting your own personal weight demons (or any demons at all) every success. 7 Fionavar's Holliday Wishes to all members of our online community: Happy Holidays Join the revelry at the Obsidian Plays channel:Obsidian Plays Remembering tarna, Phosphor, Metadigital, and Visceris. Hurlshort
Good job Cant! I've lost about 20 pounds in the last couple years, it has been nice. I was feeling really wiped out energy wise, and then I started running most days, and now I feel way better. I even ran every morning in Vegas on my last vacation, it was fun jogging along the strip early in the morning with nobody but other joggers and homeless people. Gfted1
Isnt it weird how the Vegas strip homeless were only found on the pedestrian overpasses? Cops must not be able / willing to chase them off. 1 "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

Cops must not be able / willing to chase them off. I'm curious about that. I know you need a permit or something to panhandle in California, like you actually get a time schedule and everything. I'd bet it runs the same way in Vegas, since I've seen different people in the same spots a few times. I actually avoid walking the strip when it is busy, I'd rather take a taxi two doors down than fight the crowds. edit: I should probably clarify. I enjoy my wife in heels. I enjoy my wife being happy in Vegas. Walking the strip in heels is a great way to make the wife unhappy. Cantousent
I used to work on the Strip. My brother retired from the Las Vegas Metro Police, but he never really mentioned homeless folks and I never really noticed them much, which is sad when I think about it. Of course, being born in Las Vegas, I despised the Strip and never went to it unless I had to. Some of the casino restaurants are actually quite good nowadays though. 1 Fionavar's Holliday Wishes to all members of our online community: Happy Holidays Join the revelry at the Obsidian Plays channel:Obsidian Plays Remembering tarna, Phosphor, Metadigital, and Visceris. Cantousent
I don't hate it quite so much now, but I haven't been there in years. As a kid, we never went to the strip, but we could see the lights which was cool. Later, when I did go, it was just too loud and full of inebriated people. There are folks handing out porn flyers and all manner of weird stuff going on. In small doses, it's kind of cool and vibrant and exciting, but too much of it and you feel like you're on a continual drinking binge laced with some unsavory and unsafe narcotics. <.< As for you, GD, I'm doing pretty damned well, thank you! I've discovered that I apparently always had the makings of an avid hiker. When I was forced to march, I hated it. I remember you use to work in the strip. You told us a story once of that attractive lady who always use to walk past your window and the one day she waved at you or something similar Personally I love the Vegas strip, the lights, the revelry and the irrepressible energy....its exactly what you want Vegas to be when you visit....you just don't want to live there I also suffer from horrendous jet lag when I fly to Vegas because you are in the plane for over 20 hours so I am always wake at 4 am or earlier. And I normally head to the strip to kill time and I always meet very interesting characters from all walks of life who are obviously also awake for different reasons 1 "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Cantousent
That's funny that you remember that, Bruce. Yeah, one of the ****tail waitresses would walk by my sales office all the time and smile at me. I don't think she was all that interested, but she was pretty and it always made my day. That was at... the Rio, I think. I worked at a lot of places, but mostly at the Flamingo and Bellagio and at the place named for our very own member, the Monte Carlo. 1 Fionavar's Holliday Wishes to all members of our online community: Happy Holidays Join the revelry at the Obsidian Plays channel:Obsidian Plays Remembering tarna, Phosphor, Metadigital, and Visceris.
