Nepenthe
Yeah, and maybe have Harlequin romance novels didn't draw their men like porn stars more men would read those. Don't worry, nobody's going to take away your two-piece bikini "armor". Sorry for dreaming of a world in which guys can actually admit to liking CRPGs in female company.Haha, yeah, dressing the women as nuns is sure going to make crpgs perfectly non-geeky!*snicker* Right, because giving the female barbarian a proper "breastplate" is totally unsexy. You kids and your boy's club...Point: missed! Not at all. If anything you're ignoring the possibility that games could be fun, and the characters attractive, without every elven priestess look like something out of Playboy. It's not about making games non-geeky. Geeky is good. It's about not scaring women away by pandering exclusively to a male market. The OP's article is evidence that maybe, just maybe, things can start changing in this smelly tree house we call CRPG fandom. But go ahead and mock me. Nothing changes if nothing changes Oh, I mistook your point. You were going with a variant of the Barbie argument: I'll start wringing my hands when the male characters stop looking like they're from the pages of "playgirl". Until then, I'll just happily play as and with beautiful virtual people. 1 You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? Vast majority of women are not evil feminists who hate men or their toys. Not to mention plenty of women have no problem with games - espicially in 2014. That kind of hateful extrem feminism largely only exists on the interent or in small corners of the public world. But, in real life with real people, women aren't such psychopaths. Just liek the vast majoritym of men don't hate women and aren't against women playing gAmes or reading Harlequin romance novels. Most women are equalists who want true equality for both genders they are not feminists who want to be superior. Oh, I agree. I never said anything about making females superior, so I'm not sure where this "femi-nazi" vibe is coming from. All I said was that it's extremely obvious, looking at the art of most CRPGs, that they're pandering to an exclusively male aesthetic. It's time that changed. The art I'm seeing for Pillars of Eternity gives me hope! Volo doesn't understand what the word feminism means. He thinks it means a hatred of men and the fact that women must be superior to men at the expense of men. He just doesn't get it. That's actually a definition for it, just not the only one. 1 You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? Reapercussions
PrimeHydra
Well, I'm not going to convince you guys that there are other valid aesthetics for RPGs besides "hormonal teenage male fantasy". I think such a direction could open up the hobby a bit to the other 51% of the population. Your flames are telling, though--in this little neck of the gaming universe, not much has changed in twenty years. 1 Ask a fish head Anything you want to They won't answer (They can't talk)

Your flames are telling, though--in this little neck of the gaming universe, not much has changed in twenty years. Somehow I don't think a lot of normal female gamers are closed off from cRPGs, though, certainly a lot love Bioware (and have seen some that make..hmm..appreciative comment about the male characters). But go ahead and flounce. Why has elegance found so little following? PrimeHydra
I'm not really sure what you guys are taking issue with--my daring to suggest that they give your nubile elf characters some sensible protection from orcish swords? I clearly struck a nerve, and this is turning into a big argument about whether video games are sexist. All I said was that given the influx of female gamers in recent years, there are things artists and marketers could do to make the more "hardcore" games appealing to women. And one of those things is not having ads like this: That's ALL I'm saying. I don't understand why you're jumping on me for daring to question the wisdom of...whoa, that is hypnotic...I can change her what? Plenty of females love the current RPGs. And, plenty of males want the women to wear burkas and hide their bodies out of shame. \But, we all know one of the reasons why a certain sect want women covered up - they fear it will make the male population rape the poor gal because men are rapist pigs who can't control themselves whenever a pretty woman comes into view. The hatred of males is hilarious. Anti males never whine about males being shown like Conan the Barbarian or other overly big males - in gaming or otherwise. PATHETIC. Volourn
Deny it all you want but your posts betray your beliefs. 'hormal teenage male fantasy' is a nasty anti male stereotype that feeds into the belief that men are perverted pigs who onyl view women as holes to be raped. That's a sick belief and insults men. It also insults women and shames them into hiding their own sexual desires and beliefs.Harlequin romances and soaps (whcih i actually enjoy myself) prove otherwise. If you think having women in charge of gaming would stop sexy women (and men) being in the games you are mistaken.
