SW: The Old Republic Part 5

Recommended Posts

Thought it was hilarious though, checking his stock, being typical Jawa he sold mostly overpriced "grey" junk and then the junk part of course that I really wanted. Looks like I have to go back to Outlaws Den and spend a lot of time digging. Seriously, WTF Bioware? Why the constant insistence of putting quest stuff inside that hole, needing to jump through hoops afterwards to get rid of the &^%$# PVP flag :banghead:

I don't think you can dig up that part, iirc it's only purchasable from that jawa. Also, the pvp flag will go away by itself if you spend five minutes in a safe zone, ie your ship.

Right you are. And yes, I know (now) how to get rid of the PVP flag. First thing that fooled me was, I manually have to flag it as on (despite it already being "on") first, then unflag it again. No PVP activity seems to be a generous interpretation, as reality seems to lean towards no activity whatsoever in a resting place ;)

@ShadySands: Ah, if it actually drops in the wrong FP, that would explain how he ended up with it. I was doing a few quick runs at one time, just to rack up some social points. Found a few other level 40+ guys that wanted in on the fun, so it took no time to cruise through it.

You shouldn't have to flag it on and off, being in a non-hostile area for five minutes should be enough. But yeah, you pretty much have to do nothing.

there is a bug that bio has not yet addressed even though it has been around a LONG time. some pvp flags don't disappear even in non-hostile area. gotta go to a Rest area and then dismiss companion, 'cause the bug is frequent tied to companion being "out" when flagged. is a known issue, but am guessing it is rare or minor enough that bio don't care to fix.

Another thing I learnt over the weekend... it's important to read the fine print on your off-hand shield/generator.

For most of the game, my commando has been running around with the "wrong" type generator. I duly put in 'aim' mods and boosted surge/critical (what I thought appropriate for a healer). Only thing is, reading the stat boosts, the bloody thing has been boosting my *force* powers all this time rather than my tech power. Yay Gorth =]

Sold the piece of junk (after ripping out the mods at great expense) and installed them in a new generator (lowest level moddable sold on fleet). Suddenly I got +500 or so tech power instead of force power.

Met a guy in a flashpoint over the weekend that went straight to my ignore list. My sniper was doing The Foundry and ended up with a tank that was... not a tank. One thing was, he was dressed in all the cartel stuff (Series 512 droid stuff). Never mind that, but he kept losing health at an appalling rate and after two healers quit the flashpoint, I did something unusual and 'inspected' him. Surprise (not really), the idiot had all critical and surge mods, not a single defense, shield or absorb boost. The crowning achievement? Not even a frigging shield in his off-hand, but a generator. When pointing it out, I got some bizarre whisper back, that at these levels (around 40) it's much better to have this kind of gear than defensive gear.

Yeah, right. Mr. Moron apparently just wanted to skip the queue in the queue finder. Worst. tank. ever. Made a note of his name to add to the ignore lists of my other toons.

You have been really lucky if you met one of those only just now, or by some miracle their numbers have dropped during the last months. **** like that are just one more reason to find a guild you like and do every single flashpoint/operation with people you like playing with. No more tanks who aren't even tanks or don't have a single idea what they are doing. No more dps who agro everything in 10 mile radius and cry about noob team when they die. No more healers who think they are dps and let others die out of laziness.

Seriously, it makes the game much much more enjoyable.

When I started doing some of the high level flashpoints with my Sith Inquisitor, we had a crappy tank and the rest of the group ended up talking me into tanking when they kicked him out. So even though I was spec'd for DPS and geared that way, I was tanking through several fp's and able to handle it fairly well.  A couple of people had to leave, so ended up with some fresh random's coming into it and were doing the Illum flashpoints.  At which point my basic tanking skills really stopped working, and the healer had absolutely no idea what he was doing, so we had a couple of party wipes. I actually said about what had happened and why I was tanking, I offered to quit out so they could get an actual tank but they wanted to try again so I went along with it.

Then several minutes in, one of the guys stopped and was all "Hell, all your gear is Crit and Accuracy!" and then they kicked me out without any warning or words beyond that.

I could easily believe that. The challenge is living in this timezone. My main guy is a member of a guild with a few hundred members. On a good day, there may be one or two besides me online (I asked one once, and apparently, my best gaming time is around 2:00am US west coast time) :)

Voss had a staggering population of 8 imperials last time I visited. You try to put together people for a heroics ;)

Weekends are slightly better, since I can play the early morning hours here when not at work and you have a chance of joining a PUG as an unaffiliated DPS (my sniper is not member of anything). Most of the time, "socialising" is not really an option. I think I should go looking for a dedicated Apac guild some day for both republic and empire characters.

Working from home today, I managed to put in 40 minutes before server shutdown. Found two HK pieces, one on Dromund Kaas (an arm I think) and one on Taris (a chassis). The latter while admin was announcing 2 minutes until shutdown. Cutting it close

Edit: @Raithe: Well, that sucks, especially if you didn't queue originally as a tank.

I remember doing the entire Hoth mostly being the only player on the planet the whole time :p This was the time swtor had billion servers and players for like four servers.

It's annoying when you end up in the same group with annoying aspergers, but it's entertaining to read about them! SWTOR forums are currently under maintanance, but once it's over, go check it's best topic The weird people you meet in Group Finder for good laughs.

The digging in the Outlaw Den isn't for HK, just generic seeker droid.

One of my favorite zones myself since NO-ONE is ever there, and it has a sweet teleport skill just to start treasure hunting. Add some GTN action inbetween, and it's quite fun.

I don't think they ever intended it for that purpose though.

2.4 opinions (based on not even having played it yet, will try shortly though);

Nice GTN changes indeed.

Also sweet;

* Characters created before Game Update 2.3 can now progress beyond the first affection conversation with Treek.

Time to get my Treek!

* Tauntaun reward

Didn't bother yet with Hoth, which seems like a good deal now, less irritation, same amount of tauntaun XD

Less impressed;

* Lack of Consular changes. Phase Walk still sucks unbelievable hard, especially seeing it's a 51 ability.

* Removed Isotope-5 as a material requirement for crafting Rating 156 [Artifact] gear.

As if the price hadn't plummeted enough yet :/

* Players can now purchase Priority Transport: Oricon under the Travel section of Legacy Character Perks.

Do we seriously need a new one PER daily area. Black hole, CZ, Oricon, all sharing a cooldown. Can't they simply add a priority transport that calls the daily area console popup with BH, SX, Makeb, CZ and Oricon to replace those 3? Cause for SX and Makeb it's unnecessary loading now... and the multiple abilities is just bloat.

Of course after making this I was made aware basic comm vendors no longer sell Isotope-5. So now I blame myself for offing some for 99k thinking the price would plummet even further 2 days before patch, rather than hoarding and getting some sweeeet money now :(

^

I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. At least top 5.

Yeah, isotope-5 have to be climbing fast.

Class balancing is scheduled for the next big patch, so about 8 weeks maybe.

The new area, Oricon, is kinda nice. I like the visuals a lot and the daily quests are fairly fast. And the H2 might not be easily soloable for once without resorting to gimmicks.

The new ops seem great. Varied and interesting mechanics, sweet visuals and not too much trash between the bosses. Much better than S&V was for sure.

Too bad the last boss is bugged...

poop. between various toons we now got a few thousand basic comms with nothing to spend'em on. oh well.

One fringe benefit of this time zone, it is indeed completely empty. Once met a speeder traveling the other direction. Neither of us felt inclined to get off our bikes and fight (he was probably there by necessity too).

Yeah, now the item preview doesn't work there either. In fact, it only works on items in your inventory now ;)

Well, once I worked out a "routine" it wasn't so bad. I found it easier as imperial, because of less travel restrictions. 5 nests within easy travel distance and then swap instance, rinse and repeat. Unless particularly unlucky, you can get 6-8 domestication data in 45 minutes. I combine it with a GSI mission or two and go digging with my seeker droid anyway while there. Got 4 tauntauns (2 tundra, 2 mountain) so far, 2 of which is gathering dust in a cargo bay. Couldn't make up my mind what toon to give them to (since they are not "unlockable").

I just read through the newly introduced bugs. This was one of them (to be corrected) as was a missing armour (which I don't miss). Not getting into the whole "end game" thing yet.

So, got the last excavatable part of HK-51. Now for the two required flashpoints. I wonder if they are legacy bound, like the Coruscant part (so I can send any toon on the FP's) or if it has to be the guy that started the quest that has to do it?

Has to be the guy that starts it. The Corscant and Dromund Kass ones come in boxes which can be transferred, other do not and are immediately released into your toon. Once you get HK, you'll unlock the option to simply buy him for all the characters in your legacy in that faction

Good to know. That means my republic toon will have to repeat the process. Ah well, at least the part up to this point wasn't so bad. Sucks having to queue for specific flashpoints though (I know, it's petty, but the handful of commendations you otherwise get are good for saving up and buying purple artifact boxes, the content of which you *can* send to other toons).

Edit: I know it has to be hard mode The Foundry, but will any mode False Emperor do? I can't queue for story mode on that one (I'm good at soloing level 50 heroics, but I don't think I would survive that one) :(

Story Mode False Emperor is sufficient.

Yeah, I haven't leveled a pub toon yet, so I won't have to worry about that for a while.

Well, problem is, I can't queue in group finder for story mode False Emperor ;)

It's either soloing it or hard mode.

I just so happen to have a level 51 commando on the Republic side, so he should be capable of doing those bits for me on that side of the fence.

It's even empty on prime time on the Red Eclipse. Perfect for seeker droid hunting if I feel like it (not often I admit since they cured my addiction with that one patch ruining seeker droids, it's still not the same).

Yeah.

Also very annoying the first time you enter the GTN it's locked on 'prices' as normal, but they're still fumbled up. Had a few items up before I realised that (since it redoes it every time you change areas) which obviously never will be solved.

It's either soloing it or hard mode.

Or you can ask on the fleet/Ilum (though prob no luck there without gree) and manually launch a SM game.

As for the HK's, the listed information is false.

Once you unlock HK ONCE (doesn't matter the side) the global HK-51 unlock (also seen in the legacy under the globals) is unlocked, allowing the individual HK's to be unlocked. Which, as stated, cost 1 million credits.

So if your rep is very rich, you can skip it, but you need to pay that much for each char you want HK on without the questline.

Ah, not *too* bad then. Since I splurged 8 million on a pair of Varactyls (one of each) I suppose I can afford to unlock a few HK's. It's not like each and every toon is going to get him from level 1 anyway (which would be not only patently silly, but rather boring I could imagine).

Nothing's really changed. There are more dailies around now and they're somewhat faster to complete, but dailies are still the prime way to generate new credits into the game.

(I suppose there's the seeker droids now as well)

Of course most of the rich players never got their main income from running dailies. For me it's always been crafting. I craft and sell top tier augments and that nets me about 3-5 million per week or so. This is of course dependant on having tons of slicers so I can get all the needed mats myself.

Others use cartel coins to buy packs and sell the valuable stuff to other players.

Edit: and those with infinite patience watch the GTN for stuff that is listed cheap, buy them and resell.

Back before the expansion when I was actively trying to make credits, I did a splurge into high end mods crafting. Since you could craft BiS gear and those pieces sold for over a million a piece. Of course, that's what the materials cost in the first place, so instead the profit was made through crits (which would net you an extra item). That's also when the free crafting trend started, burning someone elses mats hoping for a crit turned out to be much more profitable than putting down the investment yourself. This still kinda works, but you can't to the BiS gear anymore. When the next round of NiM content comes around and you can craft 78 gear, I expect enhancements to be fairly profitable (since the ones you can get for coms all suck).

Or some others (like me) check the GTN for severly underpriced items and sell them for their proper price, and take the profit :).

It certainly served me well so far.

And the GTN/Mailbox is an excellent way to get around the 350K limitation, got, what, 2-3M stored in my mailbox? :p
