Pft. Microtransaction based dialogue choices are the future, mere dlc is the past. Renegade/ paragon options at 0.50$ a pop, want to punch the Salarian/ Turian/ Asari councillors, $2 a pop. Far more potential for a paradigm shift in the market and symbiotically leveraging sales units whilst maximising returns.

The pay for romance options pretty intriguing.  You have the high endescorts like Miranda and the low end like the news reporter.  I'm torn on Tali, she's weird, but I guess she fills a certain niche.

 

 

Mass Effect: 50 shades of RGB?

 

 

You know what would be awesome?  An open-galaxy space trading/piracy game in the ME universe.  Search uncharted worlds for artifacts and resources.  Smuggle red sand from Ilium to Thessia.  Hire mercenaries and hope they don't betray you.  Evade the Turian authorities.  Buy and sell tidbits to information brokers.  Get a letter of marque from the Alliance to disrupt Batarian slave traders.  Help out Spectre or STG agents in return for access to cutting edge tech.  It doesn't really play into Bioware's strengths as a studio, but I can't help but imagine the possibilities.

 

A sandbox TPS/Space Sim (aka Precursors), would be very much welcomed. But I tend to feel that style would only be explored with an MMO. A straight space sim won't ever happen even if Star Citizen sells like gangbusters.

I disagree with the last part.  If Star Citizen sells like gang busters there'll be some experimental foray into the space.  Whether or not it's successful is another story.

 

 

A Privateer/Elite game in the universe would certainly be something different, however.  It'd probably even work in a post-ME3 setting.

I was referring to just the ME franchise, not games in general. I would be surprised to see it as anything other than TPS/FPS games.

No no no... you don't do real money microtransactions. You make it a points system that NEEEVER quite manages to match up to a specific dollar value. 750 points for 5 bucks with 600 points being a specific choice unlock. Then you also lock the romances behind money, but if they buy the romances they only get the dialogue. The sex scene is tucked away for another few bucks, otherwise players are just left at "I wub you!" "I wub YOU!" *kissy face* and a fade to black.

 

And Tali would be the most expensive romance/sex scene because she's got such a dedicated fanbase.

I actually think I'd like a sort of build-a-game model. Where if I don't want romance options, I can buy everything else and only spend $45. It's nice because I get to save money for not being too interested and it's immediate feedback for developers and publishers.

I think it's an interesting idea, but poses some challenges with infrastructure and delivery.  There's undoubtedly the optics that would have some people upset.  If a company were to try some sort of "buy them all, get a deal" type, I think there'd be some heat there too.  That is, have the sum of all the parts be $70, but if you just buy "the game" it costs $60.  I don't understand the people that are pissed at models like this in SWTOR and other F2P models, since it exists everywhere else in the world.

 

Even if it was perfectly piecemeal, the integration of it all to make sure it's fair and so forth would be very challenging I think, and introduce some extra cost overhead.

 

In an ideal world, I do think it'd be interesting to see how it plays out.  It will provide some ammo for more flamebait crap (not that a dev should care), because even if romances sell 5000:1 over some "core" feature, someone's gonna get super defensive and fire off those cognitive dissonance defense mechanisms to assure themselves that what they like is the bestest, and what what other people like is wrong and lame.  Despite the fact they got precisely what they paid for!

Would be funny to see discussions on the games, when people are talking about characters that others didn't buy.
