He also mentioned Aliens in passing. Apparently it had dialogue system that "was designed never to take you out of the world." Which is exactly what I've been asking from the industry for a while.

There's an exchange in there that reveals Chris has an idea for a Planescape campaign. When pressed he doesn't want to spoil it.

I'm sure I've already heard someone mention that about the Aliens dialog system, anybody knows what I might be thinking of?

Man, Chris is going all out. I really like this answer.

Do you prefer

[speech 76%] Hey, can I get some more money?

or

[Has Speech 3] Hey, can I get some more money?

for your Speech checks? I kinda dislike the former, since it's begging you to savescum.

I prefer neither because Speech checks are insta-wins and don't require any thought to make them successful.

I prefer speech skills like "empathy" from Fallout 1 where it would tell you what the listener reaction would be, but that wouldn't tell you whether it would actually help you with a quest goal or objective or not (sometimes you'd want someone to go hostile on you).

Woah, Reddit sure is clunky, I can't understand what was going on.

Was it something they did during the PAX convention or after? Was this planned out or did they decide to have some kind of after-interview because they were overwhelmed by questions during the PAX meeting?

So I have a question for you all - what mistakes have you seen funders on Kickstarter make, and what sorts of things would you want to see in a KS presentation/layout for future projects?

That's an interesting question. One thing I see as important is to create an image of an active dev team - to create the feeling that even though the team is waiting for money, work is still being done.

Somewhat related... I understand publishers would object, but a project like this could have a sort-of-transparent budget. Not necessarily down to the last line of code, but rather some data showing where the money goes to - maybe publishing some project lead docs or something. (It would mesh well with the crowd-sourced socialist dream I guess. :))

Also what was the problem with Wasteland 2 and European backers? No paypal or something? Anyway I think Obsidian would have a lot of international backers, too, jmo.

I don't think it's a huge problem now in the phase where kickstarter is really getting all the attention as far as games go. I think the huge support from gamers is needed now and I have gladly spent money on a few titles.

However, for future kickstarter projects, the main thing I'd like to see is just more info, plans etc etc regarding the project when it's put up. So you know exactly what you are supporting. Like, I backed Shadowrun out of goodwill and the fact that I like the license, but I would've really liked some sort of vision doc or plan for how the game will play out. We know now that it will have similarities with X-com for example, but that we will do more of the "legwork". But what does this mean? Is it the typical RPG stuff where you run around town, getting quests? How close will they trying to remake the PnP feel? Will they say screw that and just go for the feel of the setting itself?

Like I said, I have had zero problems to back promising projects right now because I think the industry really needs this kind of creative freedom. But in the future I would like to know more about the plans for the actual gameplay and stuff like that.

EDIT: At least if I'm gonna be convincedto plunk down more cash than the standard 15 bucks pledge.

It was done yesterday. And there was no Wasteland 2 at Pax.

Read Chris answers. If you want context click context.

Easy as that.

Actually, I wondered about the context concerning the chat itself. Apparently, I've been influenced by some answers because it's just an initiative Fryan Bargo did on his free time with MCA/CFA/JCA/Fruity. Nerdy Internet communities sure love to nickname Chris.

By the way, we got a new cool piece of art: http://i.imgur.com/u0cTY.jpg

CFA isn't a Nickname, by the way.. It's his initials.
