Maria Caliban
But if the game sold well but wasn't popular, why did BG 2 get even bigger sales? That would suggest not only did people play and enjoy it, but it got good word of mouth. "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon. There was a world of difference in the way plot, pacing, encounter/dungeon design and item/spell/ability selection was handled compared to BG1. Hurlshort
It is fine that you don't like Baldur's Gate, but you really seem to be missing the fact that it was reviewed well, sold well, and has a huge fan base. It was a very good game for many people. Quite a few people who consider it a classic. It appears regularly on top gaming lists. Personally I prefer the BG1 experience. I recognize that is not the majority opinion, but I'm surprised you aren't recognizing how important BG1 was. If it wasn't such a successful game, we probably never would have had BG2, PS:T, IWD, or NWN. It was the rebirth of the Forgotten Realms and D&D PC games, and BG1 was catalyst. I replayed BG1 a few months ago and enjoyed it just as much as my recent Fallout play through. I know quite a few folks who do this.
Thorton_AP
While I prefer Fallout to Baldur's Gate, I would be surprised if Fallout was a more successful game than Baldur's Gate.

Orogun01
ME3 will have timed dialoge. Can we have weapon mods too? I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Magnum Opus
Didn't feel that the timed dialogue in AP really added much to the experience, save a certain annoyance when my hand shifted on the keyboard and the game ended up selecting a response which I never intended. Frankly, though, am not surprised. Bioware in particular seems to be taking a long hard look inside my skull these days, seeing what I didn't like about the games I've recently played, and then deciding to implement those features specifically. Out of everything that was wrong with AP, that would have been at the top of my list. I'm sure they're doing it just to piss me off. I'm personally hoping they'll go with the "checkpoint" system of saved games, too. That'd be just peachy. Bendu
Have you watched the video? Because there is a bit in which Muzyka and Zeschuk answer some questions: Hip Hop Gamer: There's something I really like about Mass Effect, when you're talking with people you can choose what you want to say and make it more personal. I like that you can do that, but I didn't like that there's no time limit. I can fall asleep and the person will just be standing there with no answer. There's a game, Alpha Protocol, that gives you that pressure, you'll have to answer it real quick. Will we see that in Mass Effect 3, to add more intensity and realism to confrontations? Muzyka: Yes. I think it adds a sense of visceral excitement to the experience, it's really critical. There's various ways to do that, but that's always real cool. And about multiplayer: >Zeschuk (on multiplayer): I can verify one thing, there's shooting in Mass Effect 3. Muzyka: Y'know, if we integrate features that are brand new innovations for the franchise and platforms that we've worked on in the past we always try to make sure they're integrated really, really well. http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/100802-mas...d-dialogue.html
Nepenthe
No, I haven't watched the 1h+ video. I tried watching it for about five minutes, but then I decided that I'd rather stick my head in a gas oven. If there's a specific spot I should suffer through, please point it out so I can have a more informed opinion. Also, if the above quote is it, they're saying it's a neat feature, but not that they are using it. I think they said that Kinect and Move are cool, but that they won't be using those either. Slowtrain
Just don't go make a sandwich or do the laundry while you're involved in dialogue about the end of the universe. It's a good moral lesson. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that. WorstUsernameEver
Dunno if I'd call the wording unequivocal. For all we know, they could just be referring to the interrupts in their answer. EDIT: Well, okay, I rewatched the video. It looks like a confirmation after all. EDIT: Well, okay, I rewatched the video. It looks like a confirmation after all. Mmh. I still doubt that it's going to go full-on Alpha Protocol. More like there will be some choices that need to be made within a certain time limit (like the nuke abort codes in one of the N7 missions). You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? WILL THE ALMIGHTY
ME3 will have timed dialoge. If Bioware does this, I'm sure they'll do it right, but I doubt they will. Most of ME's dialogue, even the second one, always includes a secondary dialogue tree so you can ask more questions about less important stuff. It wouldn't work if it was timed. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. Pop
Source has 0 credibility. Moving on until a more serious source appears. It's a press event. With Ray and Greg. In public. With a lot of "journalists" in earshot. I mean I know we're not big fans of black people around here but geez. Incidentally, Bitmob has a nice profile on the dude, who seems like your average fan. The best thing about him is that you can't endlessly bitch about how he's not a "game journalist" and how "game journalism" is a sham, because he doesn't walk around with that pretension. And really, what other commentator can you name who would call out Bioware's brand new mechanic as indebted to another recently released game, to their faces, at a press conference? Homework assignment: Go around looking at other sites who mention it and see if they do. Bet you they don't! Cuz they're impartially reporting on the genius of Bioware. Get this guy into the White House Press Corps (or maybe not, cuz he's black). Edited December 20, 2010 by Pop Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
