Malcador
Heh, funny that PCG mentions FADE/DEGRADE as if this is something new. Was funny in Arma II, at the start, you couldn't even do the training range apparently as it'd mess up your aim so badly. Still got broken, albeit in a rather lengthy Starforce-esque manner (which is the point I suppose), but is my favourite kind of DRM. Azdeus
Haven't experienced any region blocking. Would you mind giving an example of this ? Game releases on Tuesday in North America, then on Friday in Europe; Steam being on the internet follows those release dates. I assume that is what he means. And it's an asshat retarded policy. Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. pmp10
Haven't experienced any region blocking. Would you mind giving an example of this ? Easy - Fallout New Vegas. Steam recognizes completely different version of the game depending on the country of purchase. And this is a issue as DLC releases are somewhat unequal. Gorgon
Regional pricing is illegal within the EU and it is sortof cheating. You distort the actual value of your product because you have discovered certain markets where you can get away with charging more. This is what leads to paralel imports in retail, and it's why those high value brands who employ it only sell through 'authorised dealers', basically outlets who agreed to put up with a whole lot of restrictive bollocks because it gives them access to the product. Lexx
While we are at piracy... Bought Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 from Steam when it was on sale lately and installed it now for a few hours (slow download speed in the moment). Then I wondered why the game won't start... so I googled the error code and found out, that it's because you need to install the Ubisoft Launcher to make it work... and you must be online all the time... and you shall not be able to uninstall the Ubisoft Launcher ever again. Result: I will never ever buy any Ubisoft games ever again. What the hell, man? But the worst - and what is making me angry - is that I haven't seen that when buying the game via Steam, else I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. God, I hate this crap so much. I didn't spend many euros on it, but it's still such a waste. And there aren't even any "patches" to fix this issue. So... Preventing people to pirate your games on the pc is to piss them off as much as possible? That's the only thing I see here in this case and nothing else. Zoraptor
I think you doubled HAWX2's PC sales there. So few people cared about it that it never got "patched" even as a matter of pride. As I said elsewhere, Ubisoft are bipolar. They make particular types of games on PC that pretty much every other large publisher has abandoned as not having a large enough market, but at the same time have some ludicrous and- worse, since it taints even those titles with more reasonable implementations- wildly inconsistent DRM schemes while their personnel flip between Five Minute Hates and bemoaning their PC sales having halved. They've used no DRM, SecuROM, Steam, plain disk check and various different iterations and implementations of Uplay in the past three years and I have no idea which used which without checking.
