No ... but I figured, at the very least, the gun would show up slung over his shoulder like when you recruit him. Besides, I bought a brand new sniper rifle just for him that already had a full clip. So at the very least, he should have had one clip of ammo.

Plus, I can't see him being out of ammo. I rarely use him, and I've never had to give more ammo to my companions I use more (and who use more ammo in combat because of that).

I don't know what you mean by "the new sniper had a full clip," since far as I know ammo shown in your UI is YOUR available ammo on YOUR person, but I believe if you give a companion a weapon (other than their 'default' weapon), you must also place ammo for it into their inventory.

Boone's default rifle has endless ammo (I'm guessing the others do too) but since you're trying to get him to use something else & he keeps going for melee, then no ammo would be my guess. But.....companions (Boone in particular) do seem to have a lot of little glitches. Like Boone can lose his hat, or once his original armor AND the hat he gives you just 'poof', disappeared, from my inventory when I was trying other outfits on him.

I'm not sure if it's the right topic to say but... of all the games Obsidian has made, this is BY FAR the most broken game they ever made...

Bugged companions quests, main events totally broken ( ex: entering the Lucky 38 after Victor talked to the hero and having the robots inside shooting you for no reason whatsoever), game freezing when trying to reach a certain city (Primm) later on... among other things.

I realy don't understand what happened, did Obsidian got "KOTORed" again? lacked manpower? got abduced by little aliens in flying saucers? previous games like NVWN2 and KOTOR2 did possess their share of bugs/glitches, but at least they never bugged on quests for me.

Dont get me wrong, I LOVE this game, but all those problems brings down a lot the fun you have when playing this game.

I'm up to eight crashes now. Two hard ones (total system lock) and six normal ones. 30 hours without a single crash and now it's crashing like crazy.

I hate this feeling of never being able to trust the game.

That's my point though. I can't even get him to use his default weapon. I only gave him a new weapon to use after I noticed he no longer uses his default rifle. I've even tried taking all inventory items I gave him back, which should result in the companion going back to their default gun. But he doesn't. He uses his fists.

Did you try cycling between "use melee" and "use ranged" in the companion circle? That works for me.

Yes, I indicated that above. I tried all the various companion commands to try and see if that works, but it doesn't.

Ok...then the only thing I can think of is that I've heard he can occasionally lose his rifle upon exiting a casino or just because. Sometimes it gets dumped into your inventory instead (can't give it back either, so you're stuck) but sometimes it's just gone. Perhaps this happened to you & the result is a Boone who refuses to recognize any rifle weapon. Just a theory.

Don't know how to fix it/if it can be fixed on xbox, tho. Console commands don't work on xbox/ps right? Or do they now...

Crash on PS3, 40Gb PAL system.

Fallout-UK-version.

I've encountered a game-crashing bug on the PS3 that has happened to me ten times in a row now.

I've gotten a minor rad poison and want to use a Rad-Away.

EVERY TIME I TAKE THE RAD-AWAY THE GAME FREEZES, FORCING ME TO TURN OFF THE PS3 (holding down the powerbutton until three beeps).

I have a RAD-level of 201 and a total of 6 RadAways.

The crash occurs when I take the RadAwayfrom both within the inventory and the RAD-status screen or mapped to the D-pad.

I'm at level 8 with an XP of 5006/5800

So far the only work-around I found is that when increase the RAD-level by eating food and also removing and retrieving the RadAway (to my companion) from the inventory it seemed to work.

Anybody else have had this crash?

I found out that this bug, or a similar, existed in Fallout 3 and was patched on January 13th 2009 in Update 1.1.

*Using Radaway from the Pip-Boy's Status Menu repeatedly no longer crashes the game.

Could it really be the same bug within the engine?'

Would love to get an answer from Obsidian about this and if it will get patched.

FWIW, I'm on the PS3 and rad-away is working just fine for me.

I'm getting progressively more lock-ups, as well as some load screen hangs as the game progresses (passed 40 hours yesterday). Also moving outdoors is kind of jumpy, if I had to guess, I'd say it' some kind of streaming issue. Textures also failing to load occasionally, either had to move away or wait a while for them to "pop-in" :/

The only sure scripting issue I've run into is the work-aroundable Arcade not rejoining until I kick everybody else out issue, but I've had a few situations of not getting a dialogue option that I think I should be getting (key from doorwoman at gomorrah, lady killer option with lt. boyd etc.), but obviously those could be intentional.

PlayStation 3 80gb 4-USB version (MGS4 bundle) / Latest firmware as of this post (3.50) / Version 1.01 of the game

A lot of random hitching while wandering around in any given area, not specific to one area. Frame rate dropping to a range of 5-10 frames a second when either certain scripted events are triggered (such as McCarran getting the snipers to help you with a Fiend bounty), or any area where a lot of NPCs are displayed on screen at once. Honestly the frame rate problems are my biggest issue, they're making it very difficult to play the game when I only have 10 frames a second to work with.

Other issues include companions falling through the floor (and then the world) at no specific location.. seems random, ED-E deleting items from his inventory (mainly apparel, however have lost guns as well), texture/environment pop-in (I have seen mountains appear twenty feet away out of thin air), companions disappearing (?) maybe they are just getting lost following me.. entering a new room/area that has a loading screen brings them back to me, that's really all I can think of as of this post.

This may not be a bug, however killing random people give me a "Quest Failed" message when there was never a quest accepted in the first place.

Well, after giving my companion ammo for the new sniper rifle I bought him, Boone now uses it. So at least he's back to using a weapon instead of his fists. But the issue of his default gun disappearing is still there. If I take away the sniper rifle I gave him, he doesn't go back to his default gun. He goes back to using his fists.

Guess I'm just going to have to keep an eye on his ammo and make sure he's stocked up.

Companions occasionally lose their weapons when leaving a casino/equiv. Sounds like this happened to you.

Yeah, I think I noticed that too.

Got a couple of lockups in the final hours, managed to beat the game today. Was good fun, and apart from the BoS angle, none of the other (relatively few) bugs prevented me from getting the end result I wanted. Most issues seemed to be engine-related (I had stuttering end titles. I assume they are not supposed to stutter. I hope it was just me.). In the end, decided to rush to the ending and leave some quests for later (I definitely got my money's worth out of this game. But honestly, to revisit it for DLC, stability and BoS need to get looked at...)

That stuff looks minor. If you're having fun with the game, those type things shouldn't really bring it down, unless you're the type to nitpick. The last one was kind of funny though.

Yeah, I guess I should just consider myself lucky. So far the game has only crashed on me one time. It's just that I run into a whole lot of little glitches that break the immersion for me and the game is chalk full of them. I would really, really like to see this game at least be no glitchyer than Fallout 3. It's KOTOR 2 all over again!

Looks like BoS is actually working as it should be, I should have just carried on the NCR questline further to be able to do something with them. Some tipoff at the end of the questline might have been nice, so I'm not gonna go all "my bad" with this (since I was doing wild card).

When I was in that one cave with all the Nightstalkers by Jacobstown vats was acting really strange. I missed almost every single shot even with a 95% chance and some times my character just would not shoot at all, needless to say I died of coarse and can't finish the quest for Marcus. This was the PS3 version and after the so called "patch". Fix this broken game please! I really want to like it but it becoming more and more difficult.

I must agree with that. The hitboxes (or whatever they're called) are horrible. I don't know how many times I've had a (seemingly) clear shot on something, but when I've pulled the trigger the only thing that happens is that I get one of those ricochet smoke animations in mid air and every enemy in a five mile radius turns hostile from the sound.

Also, I am letting ED-E tug along with me when I sneak around. Unfortunately, that robot just doesn't know how to sneak. I thought I'd solve that by setting his combat to passive. FAT CHANCE. The stupid ball still attacks everything and everyone on sight! The crappy hitboxes and ED-E's bad behaviour are my main pet peeves with this game.

At least I haven't had a single crash for the last 15-20 hours.

At least he didn't randomly attack an NPC you were about to engage in conversation with to finish a quest.

One of the NPCs that gave me a quest was standing in her office, and as I approach her to talk to her to tell her I finished her task, my dog launches himself at her, and Boone starts firing his sniper rifle at her. She wasn't "red", and her faction was one that "Liked" me. My own gun wasn't even drawn at the time. So I have no idea why my companions suddenly decided to kill her.

Reporting that after 25 hrs. w/2nd chr., it's crashed only twice.

Currently have the .dll vid. fps 'fix' back in and self-made mod to alter weight carrying capacity.

Also, I put virtual memory setting at 0. If you have the memory to do the same, imo it sometimes seems to help with that sudden sense of lurching in the game (less/no swapping maybe?).

Fallout 3 ran okayish for me, so I was hopeful, and indeed FNV is running great so far. Only ~5 hours, though, and I used the .dll fix from the very start.

Did anyone have any trouble with crashing at Legates Camp?

I went from like 2 crashes in as many weeks to 15. I tried reloading from an earlier save and working my way back to that area, entering the fort from a different side, executing the Khan allies in case they were causing a crash, switching companions and their weapons ect. In the end it seemed to be my NPC targeting certain Legion enemies (The first two defenders always died without incident) that caused the game to crash every single time in that area, I told Boone to wait and headed in alone, no further crashes after that.
